He wont be signing, believe me until the yanks agree some sort of refinancing we are under a no spend zone.

By a winger from some tin-pot made-up country with about w million people in it, or whatever?

What the fuck has 'international' football got to do with anything?

They're fucking shite, so your point is,too
that's what I said international means fuck all.
I agree. Can play right back and cover centre back.
And has been terrible this year. Last season he was the next big thing for City - this time round, they're questioning his inclusion in the team.

He's only 20 still. Bound to have some dips at such a young age.

In Kazakhstan today, the home side's tricky winger Kukeyev made a total twat of Glen Johnson, constantly leaving him floundering.

Every full back sometimes has a game like that, but it got me a bit worried! 😱
That's a little unfair to single him out because the bumpy pitch and a little jet-lag seems to have affected the whole team.

Is 9M (as reported) an inflated fee for a quality English FB now promoted to the England team as their RB for the foreseeable future ? I don't think so, just about right I would guess.
I don't get how some posters in this thread, in these days of greatly inflated transfer fees, can question the now reported 10M fee. He's young, ENGLISH and the current first choice England National team RB. Yet he's not worth 10M because he's a defender ? Hangeland now has a 15M tag on is head. And if we miss out for the sake of 1 or 2M then everyone will start bitching about Parry still influencing the club from retirement.

Pinch me someone.

I rate him, as we anyone who's seen him regularly for Portsmouth this year.

£9M is a fair price for a promising attacking full-back who can also offer excellent cover for Kuyt's position

Those who put forward Michah Richards over Johnson, how much football have you watched this year? Seriously?

Micah Richards can cover as a center back, so it is not an entirely ridiculous suggestion as you claim.

Class is really pushing it oncey. He is a very good English right back. The key word is English. We can find quite a few who are as good as he is. I'm not even convinced he is so much better than Arbeloa. But as we are clearly looking for English players who can hold on to first team positions and not just make up the numbers, he is a decent option. But the same applies to Micah Richards.

Micah has had a bad year, but he has the attributes and talent to be just as effective as Johnson, who has also had equally bad or terrible years in the past and is older than Micah. I think it is still within his reach to pip Glen Johnson to the English RB position for this world cup.

My point is that i won't be overly fuzzed with who we sign...Johnson or Micah, both players can be good addition to the esquaad. I'm rooting for Micah because we can kill two birds with one stone for our defense and focus elsewhere.

The pressing need however would be to find that wide player who is the missing piece.
good post. I agree with most of it.

Micah Richards will never be a great RB because he's not particularly good with the ball at his feet. It's all about power and pace.

I've long since given up on the notion of there being a player who is 'the missing piece'. We've signed many such over the years only for something else to show up. What is obvious though is that the more high quality players you have, the better your chances are.
He was absolutely shite today.
He was, but Benitez is a good defensive coach so you'd have to assume that he'd improve here. He's certainly got all the attributes, his concentration just seems a bit off at times, that could just be down to his age and relative inexperience though.

As for Micah Richards, he's all Djimi Traore.

There aren't to many stories about linking us now is there? The media thinks he's going to Chelski for 16 mill. Are we offering 9 mill and the Crouch money? Ridiculous if true. Then I'd rather get that Naughton fella for 6 mill. A bit young, but looks the biz.

One paper is also linking us with Crouch for 4 mill...

He was shockingly out of his depth last night. I'm not even sure we're after him, nor would be come anyway. Bit of southern bling merchant and will probably end up at Spurs.

I have no idea why poeple but any stock in internationals at all, even some of our BEST (ever) players haven't exactly light up the international stage.

But they're proven better players in the league than Johnson, who has always been average at best.

Glen Johnson is quoted in the papers today, saying that leaving Stamford Bridge and signing for Pompey. Made him fall in love with football again. Doesnt sound like he's on his way to Chelsea.

that sounds like he isn't on his way anywhere.

why would he leave them just yet? he's had a good season, is a automatic 1st team choice for his team and he if came here or went back to chelsea he'd be rotated. at liverpool he clearly would be rotated with arbeloa regardless of the quality of the performances he put in. the best a player like him could do is play regularly in the premiership and make a move in a year or two, definitely not before the next international tournamnet.

the only way we'd get him is if we sold arbeloa

OK he hadnt a great season but i think he had two pretty good seasons before that, immense in some games. If memory serves me correctly Glen Johnson had been pretty average before last season so theres arguments for and against both. The reason i'd prefer Richards is because he can play RB and CB and is well equiped to perform highly in both.

We don't need Johnson, and certainly not at anything over 9m.

Arbeloa is good enough, and I'd rather we gave Darby a chance.

Surely that c**t Degen can't spend another year injured.

Besides, I still maintain that Dirk Kuyt is slowly but surely becoming the best attacking Right Back on the planet.

And do you think the richest club in the world will a) sell him for a 'reasonable' price and b) sell him to their future rivals?

Regardless of what you think of Johnson, Micah Richards just isn't a alternative.

He's more use to us in the treatment room giving the physios some practice than he would be on the pitch.

Maybe we could prostitute out his body for other Physio's to practice on.

Claw back some of his wages.

You're probably right. I dont care if we get either to be honest. I'd be happy enough with Arbeloa aand Darby.
