Give them time to settle ...

That's what we always hear with young players coming from abroad ... even with players who are slightly older.

Last year, we signed a few premier league players and two took a year to settle and are now producing.

This January, we signed a 23rd old who has a ton of premier league experience and a 20 year old kid who has barely played this year at Inter. Both Studge and Coutinho have been excellent ...

If you're good enough, you'll show it ...

I agree to some extent, but both Couthino and Sturridge came from big clubs and has been used to the pressure and expectations from top clubs and their fans.

Hendo and Downing came from clubs were you're not expected to win every game.

The signs for both Sturridge and Coutinho have been fantastic, but I can see this playing out again... they will be pounced on as soon as they hit an inevitable bad patch of form.

It wasn't really about hendo and downing, more at our system of buying players. If there's a good player out there, who our scouts are keen on, we should make a move on him regardless of age/experience etc. If a player is good enough, he'll contribute - it may not come immediately, but it will come. In general however, the better players take less time to settle down (it's not the rule, as there's enough who struggle but I'd guess the majority don't)

I hope not ... but that is how 'us' fans are.

Downing was told he was better than expected so why would he feel that he needs to perform better.

Sometimes players do grow into roles, but we've been lucky with our two, they look great.

I'm fine with giving players time to prove themselves when they're new and not doing so well, but we should balance that a bit by not claiming that players are amazing because they're good in their first five games.

Allen is a good example, too many people went overboard after a few games and it's then understandable if the people who can't see it tend to get a bit irritated and press the opposite view.

Lets move this to the GC and take it off topic.

Same should be applied to posters. Crump was excellent off the bat. Have we signed any posters from other top flight forums that haven't ripped up the 6CM forums as of yet? Or had we any slow burners that needed time to settle before showing us their worth?
