What about Balotelli, are we going to make a loss on him?

Fair point, but was only considering the credits and debits from this transfer window.

We can add Markovic (also likely a loss) and Allen to the likely credits. These two should get at least 25-30M between them.

I think Newcastle paid 18m so if we could settle on that and they return their investment it would be a good deal for us given market pricing.
Is Pogba 5 x the player Wijnaldum is?

I think Dutch is a good way to go this summer with the lack of European football for them they will be fresh and also perhaps not overinflated to quite the degree as some others have been.

I feel like this could be a really good signing for us.

I know its early to talk first 11's and as Ryan often points out its horses for courses but
Karius
Moreno I guess
Matip
Lovren
Clyne

Can
Wijnaldum
Milner

Coutinho
Mane
Sturridge

Looks a significant improvement on last season.
And what does look really impressive is our depth with the exception of full backs where we do still appear very light
Mignolet
Flanagan
The Hound
Sakho
Gomez

Allen
Lucas
Henderson

Firmino
Origi
Ings

Still with
Markovic
Balotelli
Grujic
Benteke
Lallana

In the wings.

I know we have been here many times and saying on paper in July things are looking good but there is pace, power, youth, skill and aggression all over the place in this squad.

I still wonder about leadership and crucially goals with Sturridge always a doubt with fitness.

But overall the ins look good and the depth is better than it has been for a long while.

Generally agree, although I am more optimistic regarding fullbacks. I would prefer to loan put Flanno so he can play every week and redevelop his fitness and career. He then either returns to us as "free signing" or he is not quite good enough, but good enough for 8-10M sale in today's market.

For fullbacks, we buy Hector and use Smith and Randall has injury cover behind Clyne, Hector and Moreno.

I think we will sell both Lucas and Allen. Medel would be a very good Lucas replacement. Grujic/Wijnaldum for Allen. Brannagan/Ojaria provide injury cover.

If we buy Coric, he becomes Coutinho's understudy until his eventual sale to Barcelona.

We need to do a cash plus player deal with them

I say give the Lucas and Markovic and £7m or Lucas and Alberto and £12m

One lump sum? Mario then? He's a fucking lump.
Rafa will not take Balo, but he will take our other players. So we should try to offload the surplus players to him who will play lower league like Alberto, Lucas, Illori, Wisdom and Markovic (probably may play lower league)

Maybe - but we shouldn't under-value them, while allowing Wijnaldum's price to be inflated.

This is turning into the lallana transfer....at 15 million he is probably worth it, at 25 million it's a different question...

Yeah right. Because if I was one of those players (bar Wisdom perhaps) I've just love to play in the Championship instead of going to Spain, Turkey or Portugal where I might actually win something and play in Europe.

Newcastle want Lucas as a part of the deal acc the Telegraph.
Rafa could even make him captain to get him to join them.

Suddenly this transfer looks good value

Newcastle paid 17M last summer, so it's not surprising they want to make a profit after he had a decent year.

We would have saved some money had that deal been done then, but on the other hand maybe the timing wasn't right as we was in the midst of a long-term injury. In football (not financial) terms, now it probably the ideal time to sign him – after having adjusted to the EPL for one season. And like I wrote in the post above, a lot of his compatriots seem to start playing their best football after the age 25 and continue playing at a high level well into their 30's.

I started a thread on Wijnaldum 2 days after your post in 2014. @cloggypop said something interesting then – "He is not really a number 10 and not really a winger either." I wonder if cloggy can explain a bit more, since he saw him play more than the rest of us. I understand he is not very easy to classify; is there a player he can be reasonably compared to in terms of style/position?

At the quoted fee though, that probably would have been a risk worth taking I think. But in terms of player development, the path he's taken may have worked out for the better.

What's really interesting is that two of the more affordable alternatives posed versus an expensive Lallana signing were Firmino and Wijnaldum.

Now it's looking like we might acquire both in the next two summers, and keeping Coutinho as well.

I do wonder why the people that moaned in the Skrtel thread isn't moaning now about you treat players? Maybe because they do are hypocrites. Is a moderator doing a good job when he/she treat how you are allowed to moan about players differently? You are allowed to moan about Lucas as much as you want, insult him is fine but if you moan about Skrtel then you are indeed an idiot that should be banned.

@Kay Age El - can you please explain to Arn that people asking players to be sold (they did this for Suarez, for Gerrard, for Lucas ... i.e. for everyone) is not the same thing as people bashing a player as it's confirmed he is sold? ta.
