Worse big money signing than Lallana and Markovic surely? Markovic wasn't given a chance but this guy has been playing in his preferred position for a good 5-8 games now.

Erratic touch, no conviction, no shot on him, runs around for no reason and his preferred passing seems to be sideways. I heard his best stat last season is tackling??? Another non brazilian-esque brazilian signing.

I am not writing Firmino off yet. He had a very good game when we walloped Man City, linking up well with Coutinho. Sometimes it takes a player some time to settle in.

And sometimes you need to see SOMETHING, ANYTHING that makes you think 'yeah this lad might be worth persisting with'. Thus far, seen fuck all evidence of that. yes he was good in them games I suppose but in the main he's been seriously atrocious.

Another criminal waste of money.

He's slow, shit and another huge waste of money

Gotta love how people are saying how a new signing with a cultural and language barrier, who has to get used to a new country, league, team and manager is shit after a few months.

He has been shit, so the description is accurate. How would you describe him?

Just because he has been shit so far doesn't mean he is a shit player. All players go through poor runs, especially when you take into account his situation. So you're basically saying he's a waste of money and will never come good?

DeGea was a laughing stock when he first arrived. Look at him now.

He's about as much use as Aquilani.

Every season we'll end up loaning him out till the end of his contract.

Yeah.

People are so shortsighted and impatient it hurts. 4-5 months. Thats what you get. No more,
He was good against Sunderland and has been playing a lot of football like some other players during the last few months.

Just give him time.

Same with Markovic btw. Played out of position and came here as a 20 year old. Some have already written him off.
Its just headschratchingly stupid. Just give them some time to adapt. Judge them then.

They're both shit. Sadly.

They're not. But it appears that some of our fans desperatly wants them to be. Weirdly.
Nothing like a good moan about how shite everything is eh?

Anyhoo, I'm done discussing them. We'll see where we're at in 6-12 months.

I desperately want our players to be brilliant for us, but I'm also not one to pretend when they aren't and don't look as if they ever will be, nor do I sugar coat or make excuses.

Firmino has had one or two good displays and has been largely shit. He might improve. I really hope he does. I just doubt it he will ever be good enough.

Same with Markovic, although he's even worse

Ok - lets see now:

Henderson - many people were on his back for a long time until we realized how important he was in that season where we almost won it. Yes he did take time, but he was a midfield player - alongside Gerard, so in many ways we needed someone in there along side Gerard who supported him so the position could actually afford us time.

Firminio - was clearly a replacement for the departed Suarez more so than Sterling. However, the position is the one where it must make a difference sooner rather than later - we cannot afford to have someone playing up front that is physically not up to the challenge and for someone like me and others cannot work out even if he is on the pitch because there is such little activity from him. He has been playing in his preferred position but is showing fuck all in every game he plays - out of 90 minutes I want to see more than a few nice touches from him in games.

As for people mentioning Markovic - all I can say is that he was noticeable when he had the ball at his feet, and this despite not playing in his preferred position. I think Klopp could have really worked with him.

He's been well below par so far, there is no denying that. He's put in 45 minutes of excellent football all season and has otherwise been average at best .

We all hope he's going to get better and hes clearly got more in his locker so fingers crossed like but I'm not hopeful. .

I have to say I don't really 'get it' with Firmino. He's another player who disproves the cliche that you can make any player look good on a Youtube compilation, because nothing I saw before he signed really impressed me and everything since has backed that up. I presumed I must be wrong but it doesn't look good so far.

At best he was yet another paceless, lightweight, AM we didn't need. At worst he's just a bit rubbish.

Seems a baffling signing right now.

Normally by now given the game time he's had you can usually see some spark of something- but other than a couple of smart shots at goal - nothing really- We must have the two slowest Brazilians in the history of Brazilian football - I think Dunga was quicker.
People seem to be spending a lot of time bemoaning £32m on Benteke but at least that lumps scored 7 goals in about sixteen games - Firmino was nearly £30m but seems to be cut a lot of slack around here

No shot on him?

You mean apart from the one which caused a blinding fingertip save from mannone the other day... Or indeed in his first ever game for us ...

We need to have a player lead the line better in front if him IMO

I haven't written him off just yet by the way - but I'm fairly sure it isn't going to happen - on the bright side Lovren is in the middle of proving me wrong [emoji48]

The only thing you can say for certain is he isnt a great player right now.

They always 'settle' quickly. I use the inverted commas because it has nothing to do with settling and everything to do with a team realising it needs to do everything to support a player when he's great, but if he's not great he needs to find a way to fit into the side. That takes time. Firmino may or may not get it, but for me its clear at this point the transfer fee was vastly inflated.

In time he may well go on to the Luis Garcia type, inconsistent and occasionally brilliant. But we paid a hefty price for that kind of contribution.

He's just so frustrating to watch at times. The amount of misplaced passes or horrible attempts at control are really hard to watch. These are techniques that really should be innate in a player regardless of league. However my thoughts are that after a slow start here his confidence has taken a beating and so the basics have become difficult. We need him to get it together...

Its a bit early to write him off but by anybodies estimation hes been embarrassingly poor so far. He will get the season at least to show what he can do.

Markovic on the other hand I have no hope for, his attitude was rumoured to be poor before he joined and he did nothing in his time with us to disprove it, hes done bugger all at Fener since moving there so we will be loaned out again next season
