He is a top player. He's made 300 appearances in the Premier League. He's played 34 times for England. He's played in a Europa cup final.
Don't get me wrong, he's not as good as Bale, but then he's costing us £6m over 4 years so he isn't going to be is he? Make no mistake though, as far as wide players go in the Premier League, when he left Villa two years ago, he was one of the best around. Just because Dalglish didn't know what to do with him, and Rodgers didn't fancy him doesn't make him not a 'top player'
Absolutely. If Downing comes we'll have signed 3 first-team players with 132 international caps between them. If I was a supporter of another Premier League club , I'd find that sort of business intimidating
We on the other hand have a batch of our squad of players who are English Internationals and are seasoned Premiership pros. My money is on the fans of the likes of Norwich, West Brom, Swansea, Villa & Saints will be silently gutted that their teams hadn't bid for the likes of Cole, Downing, Jarvis, Carroll
I for one am happy with Downing signing. His time at Liverpool wasn't great but I firmly believe Sam will have him back to his best in the near future and for him personally
I'll welcome Downing, and every time a cross is whipped onto Carroll's head and smashed into the back of the net, I'll search out every Liverpool fan and remind them how much of a loss they made.
