Finish the season 3rd and in the Semi-Finals of the Champions League...

Buy Fabregas, Costa and recall Courtois.

I can't help but feel disheartened. How can they not win it?

I'm made up their strengthening, we'll still beat them home and away and they'll take points off our rivals

I'm not so sure. I think Rodgers still has a bit of a blind spot when it comes to Mourinho, he seems reluctant to be quite as brave, or make brave changes against him, compared to who he's managed us against other sides/managers.

They just seem to be getting their business done and dusted. Our pursuits of Moreno and Lallana are worrying me as they're dragging on and I'm not convinced they're even worth the effort.

Hopefully we pull a couple of stunners out of the bag.

Statements of intent generally mean fuck all.

We should buy players who will fit our system and have the right work ethic to play under Rodgers
Has worked for Chelsea, Man U and City before.

Yeah, cos when their 'statements of intent' go wrong they can simply another couple.

We can't. The last time we made a massive splash & tried to make a 'statement of intent' we ended up buying Carroll & Downing.

Also, it's fairly safe to assume if we were to buy sanchez we'd still be short in some positions.

yeah but it would be nice to sign a big name player who actually turns out to be good ...lots of other clubs seem to manage it .

Didn't we have a long discussion about mentioning those two signings before?
We agreed that those two weren't top class players and apparently we all knew it beforehand and they shouldn't be compared to the potential £25 million Lallana transfer?

Its about spending the money on the right players, buying someone like Sanchez or Fabregas or Costa etc is IMO a statement of intent.
Konoplyanka, Yarmolenko, Dzagoev, Shakiri, Draxler, Griezman, Iturbe, Koke, Muniain, Herrera etc would be decent signings as well.

We may get someone from that second tier, but we can't get any of the big 3 you mentioned cos fee plus wages would pretty much equal two players worth.

If we consolidate cl footy, the signings this summer work out & a couple of the youngsters come through then I think we will do the window after, cos the revenue will be up & the need for numbers drastically reduced.

I'll be the first to admit that I don't know a lot about the finances. I know that we can't afford another dud like the two you mentioned before, but there are quality players out there, who almost certainly will shine in the premiership.

A big signing wouldn't just be a message to the other teams and the fans it would also be fuel for someone like Suarez. I'd love to have another player in the team who can take the shine off Suarez from time to time.
We do have space in the team for a big name signing.

It's a squad game when you're competing in 4 competitions, so I'd be happy to sign him. However, I don't think Suarez, Sturridge, Sterling and Sanchez should necessarily be in the same team sheet.
