England v Uruguay

He's a top player and one of ours, so I love the guy. But he's not the sharpest tool in the box. He believes in an invisible man in the sky for a start. What was God's plan when you asked him for help and he made you sky your hat-trick peno against the blueshite? What was that all about. When he scores it's down to God, when he doesn't whose fault is it? That God is a right head-fucking bastard eh?

I agree with Luke Moore from the football ramble in that Hodgson is quietly preparing the ground for dropping Rooney. Whether it's this tournament or immediately afterwards, I think it's on the cards now. He's part of this odd group of footballers that can't quite play in a calm, measured way and as a result has a tendency to throw the team out of whack. Beckham was the same and, to an extent, Gerrard has been. Rooney isn't going to stick that close to tactical instruction because he relies too much on instinct.

A problem England have right now is that they've got a squad dominated by players who play for teams which prize ball retention and intelligent play, but a manager who is setting England up to not play that way. That's not a criticism of Hodgson; there's obviously more than one way to play football, but against Italy there was this odd mix of styles and I think that's where England will fall down irrespective of what personnel they play. Gerrard, Henderson, Sterling, Lallana, Sturridge, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Lambert can all play comfortably in a set up that values ball-retention, but Welbeck and Rooney can't, and the set up that Hodgson values - two deep lying central midfielders, at least one defensive-minded 'winger' - makes the style of play almost impossible. So we are going to be stuck with this odd mixture of personnel and systems which don't match up.

It's all very well saying for instance drop Rooney and play Lallana, but even if we could play a team with as many Liverpool, Southampton and Arsenal players as possible, they're not going to play anywhere like the way us or the other two play because the system Hodgson plays doesn't really support it.

Nice post.

Have a feeling Hodgson will also drop him because of the press and public pressure more than anything else, its like when he ditched 442, Hodgson was under a lot of pressure to do it and he did, same with taking the youngsters to the World Cup, again he was under massive pressure to take the younger players and he did, you can't really blame him too much for succumbing to it all, for me they were/are the right decisions anyway.

Also as your post alludes to Roy is no high level tactician, not even close, think some have got a bit blinded because the other night England done allright, England have been so shit for a long time in tournaments that its a relief to see them play half decent and give it a bit of a go, that really shouldn't cloud judgement on Roy, i can't help but think that he goes with the 4231 but doesn't really know whats hes doing with it, basically like your post says.

Same.

Hes actually a really charismatic and likable bloke when you listen to him in his interviews, it makes a change from 90% of them who are media trained robots who speak but don't say actually say anything.

The God stuff is a shame, it ruins his character a little when you hear him mention that.

Drama queen alert!, no-one is really slagging him off, only expressing our opinions just like Sturridge does with that fairy tale he believes in.

I'd rather our players have a set of morals that they're held to by religion than not. If it holds them to a higher standard, then I'm all for it.

Buena suerte mis hermanos uruguayos! Espero que usted envíe a los burros desventurados volver a Inglaterra con el rabo entre las piernas firmemente.

No, you were slagging him off.

No, you are being a drama queen.

I shouldn't need to explain but...The ONLY negative part of my post was saying that i personally think the God stuff ruins his character a little, that's it, the rest is full of praise for the man, just like always.

If you really think thats slagging someone off then you are full of shit.

Utter bollocks.

You are even having to spin it which strips away credibility from what you are saying.

It wasn't "Ruins his character" it was "ruins his character A LITTLE" which im my opinion it does, i don't hold it against him as we are all different and all believe in all sorts, as i said in the original post i just think its a shame, thats all.

Slagging him off? get a grip.

Even you don't believe that playground wriggling.

Yeah, saying someone's character has a flaw for being religious is slagging him off, regardless how you paint it

So a mate with one eye, if i say its a shame and it ruins his looks a little then that means im slagging him off?

So a mate that supports Everton who is sound as fuck, if i say its a shame that it ruins his character a little when we talk Liverpool im slagging him off?

Bullshit to you Fabio you bandwagon jumping sheep.

'eck. Someone has his knickers in a twist because people disagree with him.

Saying someone's character is in question is slagging him off. Ruining a character a little or a lot is not exactly complementary.

It's all phrasing.

Your mate with one eye, it's a shame he only has one eye; it doesn't ruin his looks

Your Everton mate, it doesn't ruin his character. It's just a fucking tragedy he's made such poor life choices.

I'll start putting [sarcasm] [/sarcasm] around my posts in future to help you.

Fair enough, i missed the sarcasm this time.

I stick by what i say, as long as Studge doesn't knock on my door trying to shove that shit down my throat i will always love the bloke.

I don't think he ever has or will. Whilst I have no religious beliefs whatsoever, I actually have a lot of respect towards him (and Raheem) for their faith.

Of course it ruins his looks, sad but quite obviously true.

A fucking tragedy hes made poor life choices?, that's your opinion just like mine on Studge which is similar to what you say about the Everton fan there, although tbf to Studge he probably got brainwashed as a kid, not his fault really.

Im fine with people disagreeing, you know why i say that about you, everytime im arguing (which does seem a lot tbf) you always appear out from behind the crowd to stick your oar in.

It's because I appear to disagree with you on nearly every point you make.

Other people just call you on your points before I do.... As there seems to be a queue

Fair enough, obviously im on the other side of the fence and think its a shame hes buys into the fantasy.
