Definitely, I would be surprised if we are not still in the running come Christmas. How many do we have left over from the 2013-14 tilt? I hope the experience of that run in, will breed some confidence in some players given how close we came.

Our current captain was pretty key during that run in and he looks like he's rediscovering some of his best form.

Speaking of experience, I do wonder though - and let me be clear, I'm not doubting the man - what effect the experience of losing so many finals has on Klopp. You've obviously got to be in it to win it and there has to be a loser, but his recent dismal record in finals must do his head in.

Henderson, coutinho - is that it??

That being said, I can Imagine that season being equally crushing as it may be inspirational for confidence levels

Ha, im not sure how I forgot Sturridge given his contribution that season..

Mignolet too I guess.

I guess , given how only Suarez has gone on to bigger and better things it goes some way to highlight the player reasons atleast, why we didn't quite manage it. *I'm aware a kolo nightmare , a slip and some iffy Rodgers decisions are arguably the reasons

There's no point in picking out isolated incidents, no matter how well we played that season we had defensive frailties. Newcastle in 1996 did the same thing. There's a common reason both ourselves & they failed.

You need a solid reliable defence to win the title. It's been the bedrock of every title winner I can think of, no matter how good their attack was.

Sometimes. I posted this elsewhere, but there have been some fairly leaky defences lifting the title. For example, the top 3 in 99/00 all conceded 43 goals or more (Utd won the title that year having conceded 45) - more than a goal a game!

And as recently as 12/13 the title was won with a goals against of 43 - again, more than a goal a game.

Clearly, if you have a terrible defence then you are not going to win anything - but conversely, you don't need the defence of 04/05 Chelsea (15 GA) either.

But let's face it, the only way you can win the league is by outscoring your opponent in each game the majority of the time. You can either sit back and try and nick it or you can really go for it, both of those options have their disadvantages but Klopp is very definitely going for option two so sit back and enjoy.

And hey, if we struggle to defend a one goal lead; isn't it better than we try and give ourselves three or four to defend? Ha.

I knew there would be a couple of contrary examples when I typed that!

Contrary, perhaps.

I think it is significant though as this season appears to be a high scoring one - and of course that means a lot of teams will concede more than a few goals by the end. Spurs are the outlier at the moment with their defensive record, even City in 1st have conceded 7.

I don't think being tight at the back (oo-err) is going to be as important this year as it has been in some of the recent league campaigns.

I believe!

So far we are aces. Keep scoring goals and improve defensively while keeping injuries to a minimum. Thats the way to keep the winning momentum. Return Anfield to a fortress is half the job done.

We certainly have a good enough squad to go all the way with the help of no European football. Klopp is doing something special and I feel it in my bones. Let's go!

Given Leicester won it last season, we definitely can. However, Man City are a different proposition to what they were last year. Then again, so are we.

I hope if we do challenge, we don't jizz in our pants like a few years ago and hold off on the street parades till after we win in.

I backed us to win the league the day he took over and the same this season.

I believe.

If we comfortably beat United, I'll get very excited, however that's a massive if, if Mourinho does a number on us yet again it's going to feel like a struggle for top four again.

I'm all for believing but if we go through the 'make us dream' phase again without winning anything I think self-immolation is the only answer.

I can help you out with a spot of necklacing if it comes to it, Leo. I use only the best tyres, so you'll be in good hands.

And then embalm me.
Well that's if your finished that undertaker apprenticeship.
