I almost wish last season didn't happen..

Because of that was the case the cunt would of definatley been shown the door by now

I think Klopp could be gettable. He's obviously someone who's interested in more than just money and easy success.

I think so too. A short while ago Rafael Honigstein wrote an article saying Klopp "would find it hard to turn Liverpool down" which looked to me like a come-and-get-me on Klopp's behalf.

I wouldn't rule out our chance of getting Ancelotti either. He's been everywhere and won everything, and I think our history (in which he himself memorably played a part ten years ago) and the chance to have a go at getting us back up there might appeal to him. The biggest stumbling-block there might be the owners and their keenness so far to appoint a younger manager. I'd love to know whether they're having second thoughts about that now.

Another thing that's annoyed me about Rodgers was playing Gerrard so deep in his final game. Everyone wanted a goal from him yet he waits til the last 20 minutes to give him a chance.

I won't say FSG don't care, because I'm sure they do, in their own weird way, but they do give the appearance to the contrary. In Kenny's last season they were breathing down his neck, sending one or more representatives to lots of games. How many times has anyone turned up this season? Two games? It feels as though they just want to block it all out. The distance is more of a problem than it's often claimed to be. Owners really need to see things with thei own two eyes - not just games, but getting a sense of off-field work, the mood of the fans, the squad, the staff. You can't monitor a club through emails. The only time Henry and/or Werner comes over these days is for a commercial or stadium redevelopment meeting. Ayre has got the job he wants and so he couldn't give a toss. Leave him alone and he'll leave you alone. It's gone from one extreme to another within about four years, and it's a sad sight for any fan.

Maybe FSG have realised or accepted that for them to put enough money in to enable us to regularly compete with the like of Chelsea,Man City , Arsenal and United They'd lose any chance of getting their money back on us. Especially with the FFP rules which are already restricting us. Let's face it if they were only interested in on field success why did they appoint an inexperienced manager and focus on younger players. When was the last time that formula won anything in england.

As Alan Hansern one said.. You don't win anything with kids..

But in seriousness the youth policy stinks..
We will just end up developing players to sell on elsewhere, because we will have fallen so far behind the rest..

5th highest in transfer fees, 5th highest attendances, 5th highest wage bill.

Yesterday was a joke, but it doesnt take a mathematical genius.

I know what you're saying but that doesn't tell the whole story surely. If we overpay for a player or overpay them on wages then we could move up to 4th in transfer fees or wage bill and it wouldn't make a blind bit of difference. What we need to do is pay cheaper than what a player is worth (or at least the right amount) and then not pay them incredible wages on top of that. That's why we shouldn't be buying flavour of the month players like Lallana,Loven and Allen. All players who have struggled to sustain the form they showed with their previous clubs.
We did this succesfully with Coutinho and Sturridge and then seemed to abandon that policy when we had a few more quid to spend. If you look at swansea with their signings of Shelvey and Cork they have taken players who were on the fringes of their previous teams , bought them for peanuts and they are now both doing really well.
I thought the FSG model was supposed to be about finding value in the transfer market but they have veered away from that dramatically.

I agree we've overpaid, but the "paying less and paying them less" point only stands for certain types of players. You've got United giving Rooney and Falcao a quarter of a million a week. Having a few players on half of that has proven unsustainable for us. We need get wiser with fees for the lower end players, but as far as getting stars goes, we have to be really fucking clever, which is proving to be a big ask. If you haven't got the attraction or finances, then operating on the middle ground means gambling on players, like we have.

Liverpool fans hit back at haters by flying ‘Brendan Rodgers in’ banner over Anfield

Brendan Rodgers is feeling the love (Picture: Twitter)
Liverpool fans showed their support for Brendan Rodgers during the clash with Crystal Palace – organising a plane carrying the message ‘In Rodgers we trust’ to fly over Anfield.
The banner was in response to an earlier anti-Rodgers effort that was organised before the Reds’ fixture with QPR earlier this month.
Rodgers was forced to answer questions over his Liverpool future after the ‘ Rodgers out, Rafa in’ message came over, and tried to cool.
But Liverpool fans are sticking up for Rodgers with this show of support, having paid for this supportive banner to be flown over.
Make your mind up!

You're right about Rooney that United have paid him a fortune but at least got some return on their money from him but surely Falcao is the opposite. The fact that United have finished in the top four is in spite of Falcao's contribution not because of it. In that sense the wages paid to him were a complete waste. The same could be said for di maria.

The academy is not just there to exploit the local talent. It's also there to exploit the value of the local talent. So selling some on is a sign the place is doing its job. There should be much more effort into maximising the price of those we sell, that's for sure, and much more emphasis on inculcating the right competitive spirit in those we aim to keep (it's way too laid back at most levels up to the reserves).

The rashest thing about FSG backing the man was that they also backed his long term plan. Immediately. If they'd given him two or three years to earn their trust as a manager (buying players and competing for trophies), then, fine, the time would have been right to back his plan, too. But as it happens, they gave him way too much power in every area except for transfers. So every level of the coaching is now stamped with his signature, and every key coach is a Rodgers man. Which means to get rid of him FSG will also have to rip out most of the club's personnel as well. A scandalous piece of mismanagement that is vastly worse than Commoli overpaying for a few players.

I still think that there is a lot to like about Rodgers and the squad he has put together. I'd keep him for next season.

I think you get what you pay for.

Pay the fifth most, you get fifth.

Unless the owners loosen the purse strings it'll stay that way, barring a fluke.

It will mean gambling on a smaller squad of higher paid players to accommodate FFP supplemented by using reserve players as necessary.

I've never taken to him, think his 'footballing philosophy ' is wank and find it impossible to point to anything his coaching has had a positive impact on.

And that said I think it's harsh to sack him for us finishing fifth. It's not that far off what we were capable of (fourth) and Sturridge basically missed the season.

I think the first paragraph is the reason you sack him, this seasons league placing isn't

I'd rather miss out on Europe

He needs to show he can manage a squad that has to compete in Europe as well as domestically during a season. In fact, he has to show he can cut it against European managers, too. Another season purely of domestic football will only, at best, set up another series of question marks for the season after that - by which time he'll have had five years in charge. This is not Everton, it's Liverpool. It has to push on.

We've continued to be unable to get any kind of consistency, even when Suarez was here, we've gone from free scoring excitement to goal shy mediocrity, from long clean sheet runs to looking hapless and amateur at defending. From fist pumping joy to chins on chests.

I'm baffled at the rollercoaster form we've had for the 3 years Brendan's been in charge. First off I think we should get a leader on the pitch, it's all too quiet and no-one looks clear about responsibility.

You just have to look at the team when we concede, they all look at one another, shrug and walk back to their positions. I noticed even SG didn't look surprised at conceding yesterday.

Retaining BR is one thing but he needs help, whether he wants it or not. Impose it FSG, if he chooses to walk so be it.

Do people think he's lost the dressing room?

I think the players are looking a bit jaded. All the mixing and matching can quickly go from genius when winning to clueless when not. And we aren't winning.

That said, the real issue is that our players just aren't good enough. Reading between the lines in Gerrard's various interviews, he hinted as such. Suarez and Sturridge just carried us last year. Scratch beneath that and we are bang average.

Unfortunately, in those circumstances, you're looking for a manager to elevate the collective beyond individual ability. I think it's shown that Rodgers doesn't have that ability. Then again, few managers genuinely do.

So, it means we need to sign world class players. However, this transfer committee is showing no ability to identify them and either the club being too tight or Ayre too inept to get deals done.

Now Gerrard has gone, we've nothing marquee about us other than our history.

He needs to stop complicating things and become part of the solution instead of a factor in everything that's wrong, which means he has to start compromising on his approach, on and off the pitch. By the same token, the owners need to show they've got more than a passing interest, by forcing the rethink and attempting a complete restructure. The club needs a backbone.

I agree with Ross. I think a big part of the problem is we've got a sleazeball no-one likes in charge. It's never been as bad as it was with Hodgson in charge though. There are talented players in the squad, not a bunch of Poulsens and Koncheskys, and despite the unfortunate mess of philosophies and such, there is a small chance it could actually come together.

The sad thing about Rodgers is that at one point it looked as though he might be capable of putting together something that was greater than the sum of it's parts but right now he's giving the impression that he's just another manager who is no better than the players at his disposal.
