Surely, regardless of the topic, you cannot class yourself as a moderate and score anything as an A+, especially when you've already acknowledged failings and flaws in the subject of the discussion. This is exactly my point.

Maestro, maybe a semi-moderate? 😉. Whole era, maybe excepting 2009-2010 as an A++, considering what he had to work with. We were tier 2 all over before he came. He left us as tier 1. Some of the best players in Europe, a force once again. Anyway, even I am bored with myself taking about the Roffa. Let's keep moving on.

What? No he didn't. We were miles off in the league, not in the Champions League, and those top players who hadn't already left wanted to leave. That's hardly a force.

He did excellently in the Champions League in his first season (having the benefit of taking over a 'Tier 2' side that had qualified for it), and then he did go on to build a very good team, although he didn't win a lot with it, gradually dismantled it and took us almost back to square one

Not a bad result for him tonight (or torres the twat), on that game alone :s
Obviously the damage had already been done regards to them qualifying before he got there.

Not all Chelsea fans are cunts:

You say don't mention the trophies Rafa won - fine. Then don't mention the ones RDM won - which people still use to defend him, apart from the fact he was outdone tactically in the final, and outplayed by Barca in both legs. We were lucky last year in the CL.

But I admit Rafa wasn't my first choice to replace RDM. It is weird having him here. But I feel a bit more comfortable that he can find a way out of problems - which were caused by RDM, who started this bad run and managed us for most of it, don't forget. He has been here two weeks. Give him a bit of leeway.

His overall track record makes me feel a lot more comfortable than RDM's. At the time AVB was sacked, would you have employed as full-time manager to replace him a man who almost got relegated in his last permanent job, if his name was not RDM? I wouldn't.

Apart from his track record, he has experience. Experience of our league, experience of working in pressure situations and coming through them, experience of working with big players at big clubs and getting the best out of them. Harry would have been an equally good choice - and in the summer, if we were appointing a temp for a year (as we were, we all know that), then he would have been perfect. Plays the right kind of football, got the respect of senior players (esp as he's Lampard's uncle) and has experience. For one year, would have been fine. RDM wasn't the right man to appoint in the summer, and only got the job because others turned it down (Pep, and from what I gather, Jose too as he wanted to win the CL with Madrid).

Yes, it's not the best because he's ex-Liverpool and made some comments 5 or 6 years ago - which really weren't that bad when you look at them in context. But he's here - and I'm a Chelsea fan and will get behind my team, whoever the manager is. Which we should all do.

The problems at the club weren't RDM's fault nor are they Rafa's - it's clear we should have bought at least two more players in the summer and kept one of Merelies and Essien around to allow us to rotate the squad. But I think the club recognise this now and are going to do something about it.

I expect us to win tonight comfortably, and win on Saturday. The confidence of a couple of wins can make a huge difference. Funnily enough, it reminds me of a former CFC manager who managed Valencia, who was really unpopular here - surprise, surprise, he replaced a CFC legend as player and manager too (strange how that happens isn't it - if only people were more objective!) and before a league cup away game against Leeds was being booed and people wanted him out.

But we beat Leeds, then beat United three days later and things changed. By the time he left and Jose replaced him, there were people not wanting him to go, not wanting Jose and saying he had no experience in our league - again, thinking with their hearts not their heads.

There were many who didn't want Ranieri, and many who didn't want Jose, believe it or not. But they won us over. Give Rafa a chance. And remember, it's only for 6 months. He won't be here next season most likely.

So let's deal with it, and get through the season - which was always a transitional one anyway. We should finish third or fourth and if we're lucky will win a domestic cup. Then the young players will have a years more experience, and we'll have a stronger squad with investment in January and the summer, and we'll have a top manager in charge, whoever it is, whether it's Pep or Jose.

What do you mean, 'our record'? Our record when we had different managers and players? Our record with this manager and team is one tense draw.

Well our record under the current manager is better against Chelsea.

Will that do?

It's not really enough to feel infused with confidence. Unless Norwich get catapulted into the Europa League this team should be anxious about any team it has to play.

I think what Stevie is trying to say, Macca, is that he's confident we would raise our game if we got Chelsea.

And I agree with him.

I don't see what that has to do with a track record. And in a knockout competition with Rafa coming back against his old team I'd expect Chelski to raise their game, with a vastly superior squad. They should have been about four up at half time when we last played them!

Who's the last LFC manager to have a better record against Spurs than Chelsea?

I'm half-pissed and on my phone - but I wouldn't be surprised if it was Dalglish - the first time round.

Nope. Don't have to go that far back. Compared the results I dug up at lfchistory.net, and it's Benitez's final season. Shit set of results though - we picked up 3 points from those 4 games.

Actually, most seasons under Benitez, we did better against Spurs than Chelsea, with 2006/2007 being the best season results-wise (9 points from 4 games). Suffice to say though, we don't take too many points from these games.

LFC score listed first in the table below.

We seem to implode against Spurs though, Chelsea are often found wanting against us and I don't think that's really changed this season either.

So are the non-haters now allowed to perform a hysterical overreaction given he's won 2 games, they've scored 8 goals in the process, and Torres has 4?

I don't think I fall into the 'haters' or 'non-haters' crowd (at least not yet), but surely scoring 6 against a 'nothing to play for' Norwegian team and 3 against a Sunderland team who's barely won in the last year isn't cause for celebration just yet? Once Torres gets to 20 before March, then the non-haters can start going after Ross properly.

Nah. Self restraint is the order of the day since it does benefit Chelsea!
