Dear Rafa fans

You just know if he's still there come April, when he brings chelsea to anfield some rafa fans will have a banner or two & sing his name.

I'll be torn then tbh. Cos it'll piss the chelsea fans off, which is good, & I'd be a hypocrite to slag it off cos I sung Kenny's name loud & proud from the kop before & after that infamous Blackburn match.

That said, it's piss me off too. Which does make me a hypocrite of sorts.

No it doesn't. You support LFC and you still harbour fond feelings for a former manager. There's nothing wrong with that...

DR; common sense prevails.

Which would people want now? Our current on the pitch situation or the situation then? Asked and answered.

That's a bit of a silly question, isn't it, mate..? Would you rather be in the champions league or not, is kinda what you're asking.

If Martinez got the job local was supporting some other team if I remember correctly.
Asked and answered.

I find it really difficult to understand why any Liverpool FC fan would continually try to find fault in what happened in '05, or any of our subsequent CL runs around that era?

Ross - I understand the troll schtick, but you're coming across like you completely resent that we had any success at that time because it doesn't suit your Rafa-agenda.

Which is just plain weird really.

Indeed, couldn't stomach the mediocrity. Just would have gone and picked a club in the bundesliga instead. I just don't believe we should accept such low expectations from our frugal owners. It's true. Me and the club were about to break up. We're currently in supporters counseling.

Just saying DR (and forgive simplicity) that all the begrudgers would kill for what we had then, now. Yet they still carp on like a spoiled Beverley Hills Housewife about that period and Roffa's failings. It's quite bizzare.

But, all you're really doing here is asking "Did you like those two European Cup finals? Did you like Xabi and Didi and Mascher, etc..?". Of course we did. It is a silly question. And you ask it as if Rafa only built those strong squads that did so well in Europe... He also played his part in the subsequent decline in that same team / squad.

Obviously, Ross takes it to an incredible extreme, but for my part, I don't hate Rafa, or begrudge him the credit he so obviously deserves... I just don't understand how so many refuse to recognise that there were also flaws with the undoubted talent. He got us back to the top of the European tree. And in all but one season, we were (barely) also-rans in the league by Christmas. He deserves eternal glory for 2005 - We might be the worst team that's ever won the European Cup. However, he was also, in large part, the architect of his own downfall.

As blind as Ross is to the undeniable good, many are equally blind to the bad that came with it.

If he was any any but a handful of clubs, I'd genuinely want him to succeed. But not there. And, as I said earlier to Ryan, it is a poisoned chalice, and he'll not get out of it alive... At best, he'll be the bad guy for six months AND be the bloke who bins the old guard, before being ushered out the door, heralding the glorious return of Jose, or maybe it's Pep. At worst, he won't see the new year.

Yes, exactly, but so what? Why are we defining an argument by the absurd strawmen on either side, by the brashest and loudest polemic, years and years after the fact? At this point if people are so blinkered that they haven't figured out the legitimate criticisms from either "side" after it's been presented again and again and again, then it's not going to happen is it? It's not hegelian dialectic, it's a manager that has both good and bad and did both good and bad.

But by all means, lets do it Fox News style, it's not tiresome at all.

Amen to that shit.

If it's so tiresome, gentlemen, feel free to not involve yourselves in the thread... I am, obviously, speaking to those interested in discussing the topic. Why comment on something so beneath you?

Elegantly written as ever Fark, but while we're all being a bit dim about it all, wouldn't it be equally prudent to not bother opening a book you're fed up reading?

If you don't get it by now that we all enjoy this shit, going over old ground and reigniting the flames with old foes, then maybe you just don't get it.

Whadda, mark, it's possible to discuss this and other topics *and* have some enjoyable banter in the process without taking the argument to extremes. However colourfully, that's all I read Farky as saying.

Forgive me, I'm majorly hungover on a school day 😉 Soz Fark!

OTHER JOBS THAT RAFA HAS TRIED DURING HIS HOLIDAYS

1. Clairvoyant
doctormaster.jpg

So: why am I wearing this risibly foppish velvet jacket wth one arm covered in spag bol?

You know my ideas.

You, sir, are supposed to be the clairvoyant. Tell me about MY ideas!

You know my ideas.

I paid you good money for this session!

You know my ideas.

You're basically wasting my time, aren't you?

You know my ideas.

2. Rod Hull's Replacement with Emu
RafaelBenitez.jpg

What's that, Emu? You know my ideas? I don't think you do! What's that?
You want to watch Manchester United on the telly? Well, then, you'd
better go up on the roof to fix that aerial...

3. Spock
EvilSpock-410x231.jpg

Hmmmm...fascinating...you appear to know my ideas...

Dammit, Spock, you're supposed to be attempting a Vulcan mind meld on me! I'm a doctor, not a goddammed smooth-chinned Rafa!

Pain...so much pain...You...know...my...ideas...

4. Milkman

Hello, ladies! Yes, if it's white, liquid and in a bottle, it's milk, madam, that's quite right. The same also pertains to our mini cartons, mega cartons, litre jugs, Tassimo pods and, specially for our customers on the Wirral, our gourmet pipettes.

5. Bex's Replacement in The Happy Mondays
Rafa+Benitez+Conga

Twistin' my ideas, Rosco, man! Stop twistin' my ideas! *Gasp, can't keep this up, pant...heart attack...* Stop twistin'...

6. Chelsea Interim Manager

Okay. This one was a mistake...

That's what people forget - that he ruined us. Despite the vast amount of money spent since largely funded by the sale ofplayers he burdened us with. And our exceptionally terrible youth system that looks like producing 10+ top class young players over the next 3 or 4 years.

No, what I am saying is, for the Roffa detractors to put a sock in it. Why? Because he gave them what they want now (CL success), and they still aren't happy. They will never be! All they see is the negative, when the truth is that when you have a manager for 5 years there are always cons to go with the pros.

I think the issue is also that there needs to be room in your argument for us Roffa moderates, who see his faults, and his failings, but still credit him with an A+ since he left us with a great roster of sellable players, trophies, and a youth program of first team graduates to boot.

I mean you'd have to be one negative SOB to think it was anything other than a qualified success from 2004-2010
