Messi has played well against Premiership opposition in the past (got Del Horno off, didn't he?), but yeah, not well enough to justify the insane hype he gets based on his La Liga form. That's largely because the top Premiership oppposition have the defensive capability and tactical nous to do what other teams can't - negate Barca as a whole by keeping things very very tight and exploiting their weaknesses on the counter attack.
I think it'll be the same again tomorrow night unfortunately. That goal Utd scored against Arsenal in the semis will have given Guardiola nightmares.
