David Texeira (The Groningen striker)

My optimistic side has taken the form of Herbert the pervert's dog at this point, but I have a goodish feeling about this guy. At least there's hope when you haven't seen them. Unlike with downing.

Yes, but his name doesn't end in a vowel.

Rodellaga's does. If Wigan sign Maynard we should go get Hugo. He hasn't scored in ages, he'll fit right in.

Suarez played for unfashionable Gronigen once.
[/quote]
He sure did and other great players before him too.

Suarez matured within the Ajax setup and without that step I doubt he'd been where he is now at this rather early stage in his career. Just checked his stats and he certainly didn't set the world alight at Herenveen either albeit slightly more than his compatriot. 10 in 29.

I'll keep my fingers crossed he's the bees knees if we sign him and will be right behind him of course.

Although it's tempting, it's illogical to be optimistic about any of our signings. Based on all the evidence we have, Commoli and Dalglish are more likely to waste money than spend it well.

The 'interesting' thing is that prior to him joining Groningen, he managed only 6 goals in 22 apps for Defensor Sporting - understandable cos of his young age but he's not had a full season of games yet so at 7-9m he's pretty much a gamble.

Really Gene ? Suarez, Enrique, Henderson, Bellamy and, to a point, Adam have all been relatively successful. Granted Downing and Carroll have been shite up to now and Coates has a long way to go but more successes than failures at the moment.

As was Suarez for Ajax. We moan about not finding such players earlier and, when we potentially take a punt on one who maybe earlier people still moan. There's no pleasing Liverpool fans at times.

Has anyone seen this chap play then? Anyone heard of him?

I'm all for buying the upcoming talents before they prove themselves and becomes utterly expensive, and now I want someone to tell me, who's seen him play, that he's a real prospect.

Suarez at least served his apprenticeship with Ajax for abt 4 seasons though. 8 in 14 appearances looks like a decent return for someone in his 1st season in the Dutch Eredivisie (That said, Man City youngster Guidetti has 11 goals in 12 apps for Feyenoord). Will be interesting to see if the rumours transform to be a concrete move.

Sunny, I think Carroll, Downing and Adam are all failures to varying degrees and these were the key signings over the summer. The jury is still out on Henderson but it's far from certain that he'll be able to turn glimpses of class into something more substantial. I think Enrique is a good value signing but not a world class left back. Suarez is a great player but unsuited to the task being given him by the management and Bellamy, although an excellent signing, is an ageing freebie. Coates I have no idea.

enrique is a world class left back, he's had one bad game since playing for us, and most of the team were shite then too

i don't think you can be fairer than that, really.

for me, when people look at Adam they focus too much on his modest price - which i suppose is a bit rich considering i always focus on Carroll's price, but still. yes, he was quite cheap, but was he really the player we needed? is he really LFC class? i just think he was the wrong player at the right price, kind of the opposite of Glen Johnson, say.

It's really not our jobs as fans to say whether players may be good enough though is it ?

Enrique is solid, not world class. I'm glad we have him but he's not the revelation that some people are making out.

Sorry Gene but I think you're making the picture out the be a whole lot more negative than it is. You're even picking holes in Suarez, Enrique and Bellamy and I can't see how they're anything else but excellent signings. I think Henderson is developing well when played in the correct position and I agree with Downing and Carroll being bad signings to date but that's about all I can agree with you on there.

I think Suarez is an excellent player but you only have to look at Uruguay to see we're not playing him properly. We didn't waste too much money on Adam, compared to others, but I'm more annoyed about the time and opportunity we've wasted when it's clear that even playing at the top of his game he's second rate and should really play for West Ham.

I'm not picking holes in Bellamy, he was a great pick up but obviously a short term solution.

As for Enrique, I'm not trying to pick holes in it, he's a very good defender, good enough to be part of a league winning team perhaps, but not one of the four or five players that will move you to that level. He's a water carrying full back basically, which is fine.

This Texeira bloke doesn't at all strike me as good valule for money. That's my main issue. But then again have never seen him play.

Hahahaha.

For me the Drowning signing was the real fuck up, if we got someone decent instead of him, we'd be in such a better position.

He's cheap if he's good. If he plays like Dirk Kuyt (vintage 2011) he's a rip off.

Judge him when he gets here.

Until then none of us have a bloody clue.

Yeah yeah I know. But still.

5 goals in 20 games for Heerenveen, a team where Boro-flop Afonso Alves scored like 49 in 39 games.

A youtube compilation highlighting he can't pick a pass nor control the ball particularly well.

Never saw Jova play either before we signed him, but said something similiar based alone on the stats available. Old, mainly Belgium-based player. Not going to end well in a million years.

So £7M?

Based on what little I know I say 'ELL NO.

I could be wrong of course. Never seen him play.
