Could anyone else do better?

I'd rather drill a hole in my head than listen to Owen, McMoneyman, Hoddle, J Cole, and all the other plebs BT has managed to expertly assemble.
True though rte do have a few morons of their own. Commentary though is far better on rte when it's a British playing in Europe than on UK stations

What we've achieved (or came close to) under Klopp and his team is beyond anything we could've reasonably expected.

The club does not have the resources or the mindset of other 'elite' clubs. As such, it would be foolish to expect continued success at the same level.

I always expected that at some point we would fall back into the chasing pack. I just thought it would be further into the future... when Klopp eventually left.

It'll be interesting to see what happens in the summer - given that we seem to prioritise balancing the books above all else. At most other top clubs a season like this would be followed by (serious reciminations and) a massive spending spree. Let's see what FSG do. The fans, media and certain players as well will all be watching.

But what JK achieved should now allow them to pursue a different model, surely.

their model is based on CL footie, so they will deffo have to adjust accordingly

I didn't take this interview from Billy Hogan too positively, esp. the quote “That (Champions League qualification) is always our goal at the beginning of the season”. For a club that finished the league with more than 90 pts in 3 of the last 4 seasons? For a club that has won the trophies it did under Klopp? Maybe I read too much into it but it does sound exactly like what FSG thinks.

I'm all for financial prudence but the claim that "we manage the club in such a way that we make sure that we are as sustainable as possible" makes it sound like the other clubs (not just the Big 6) are idiots and they are the only sane ones. Quite obvious that the "we manage the club in such a way" includes our transfer market approach.

A quick search threw up this old (dated Sep 2021) tweet. The disparity should be bigger if this summer's spending is taken into account.

When we fail to make CL qualification, the excuse that we need to spend within our limits and other "what ifs" will properly be thrown out.

I'm somewhat more charitable towards Hogan's comments in that I think FSG see top 4 as the minimum achievement (and it is).

We've seen their willingness to compete at the top end of transfers for Virgil and Ali but, equally, they're not willing to stretch the long term financial capacity of the club. Failure to hit on a couple big spends combined with missing that minimum top 4 really puts a wrench into their model.

I think FSG missed a couple opportunities to refresh certain positions, alleviate the load on current players and create competition in the squad in recent years and this is where the criticism should lie, moreso than the semantics of what we target each year.

The earlier comparison with the RedSox is right. FSG like to stick not twist unless they are forced into an overhaul through results

The Red Sox got away with it last year by scrambling into the wild card then overperforming to reach the divisional play offs but all the knowledgeable claims that the pitching depth was under resourced came home to roost this year when the Red Sox were diabolical ending up bottom of their division.

They have the same philosophy with us. If it ain't broke...

Klopp is a miracle worker with the tools he is given but let's not kid ourselves, we knew the team needed a big reset in the summer to push on.

We didn't address our obvious deficiencies in the squad, some of our key players are suffering from the insane schedule last year and the short break, injuries are occurring as a result and then the finger is pointed at the best manager we have had for a generation.

I guess we will not see a really big investment in the personnel until the stadium redevelopment is completed or we fail to meet top 4

^ this!

I get that, but LFC is their biggest investment of all, so one would hope they'd be wanting to keep it profitable.

Pretty sure the Red Sox method of operation likened to us was first mentioned 4yrs ago.
I can’t imagine FSG would increase their investment unless we slip out of top 4 consistently. We are just another label on their ever growing stable.
