Fulham Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Dimitar Berbatov from Manchester United on a two-year deal for an undisclosed fee which will see the player remain at the Club until at least the summer of 2014.
The 31-year-old forward moved from Bayer Leverkusen in 2006 when he signed for Tottenham Hotspur, managed at the time by Martin Jol. In two seasons at White Hart Lane he made 102 appearances and scored 46 goals in all competitions.
In 2008, he signed a four-year deal at Manchester United for a reported £30m. He scored 56 goals in 149 appearances and lifted two Premier League titles whilst at Old Trafford. He completed the 2010/11 campaign as top Premier League goalscorer to claim the Golden Boot jointly with Carlos Tevez.
Speaking from Fulham’s Motspur Park Training Ground, Berbatov said: “I’m delighted to have signed for Fulham and I look forward to playing under Martin Jol once again. As soon as I was aware of Fulham’s interest my decision to join was an easy one to make. I’m impressed with the set up here and the people have made me feel welcome. There is a close and personal feel around the Club and I can’t wait to get started.”
Jol added: “Dimitar is a player I’ve always admired. He did well for me at Spurs and I’m sure that he will do well here at Fulham. He’s a player of great quality and technical ability who will give me the attacking option I’ve been looking for. When he’s not scoring goals, his ingenuity often leads chances being created for his teammates and I’m delighted that we’ve been able to convince him to come to us, as there was a lot of attention from other clubs.”
Berbatov, who has been handed squad number nine at Craven Cottage, started out at Bulgarian side CSKA Sofia, joining the Armymen aged 17. In doing so, he followed in the footsteps of his father, Ivan, who also played for the club.
His talent quickly caught the attention of clubs on the continent, with Bayer Leverkusen making their move in January 2001. He was particularly impressive in the UEFA Champions League, helping the German club to knock Manchester United out of the Semi-Final of the competition in April 2002. His Leverkusen side would lose 2-1 against Real Madrid in the Final though.
Berbatov made the move to England in July 2006 when he signed for Tottenham for a reported £10.9m. He scored 23 goals in his opening season, and matched that tally again during the 2007/08 campaign. He joined Manchester United on transfer deadline day in August 2008, having long been courted by Sir Alex Ferguson.
The striker forged a formidable partnership with Wayne Rooney in his first season at Old Trafford, scoring 14 goals and making countless assists as United won the Barclays Premier League title.
During the 2010/11 campaign the Bulgarian netted 20 league to help United to a second title in his time at the club. He also won the League Cup (2010) and FIFA Club World Cup (2008) during his four years at Old Trafford.
Berbatov, who has hit a record 48 goals in 78 games for Bulgaria, was named his country's Footballer of the Year seven times: in 2002, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009 and in 2010.

Brazilian defender Maicon has joined Manchester City on a permanent contract.
The right-back moves to the Blues from Inter Milan for an undisclosed fee.
Roberto Mancini is an admirer of the 31-year-old having worked with him for two seasons while in charge at Inter and the defender is familiar with the 3-5-2 formation the City boss has been experimenting with in pre-season.
The Brazil international, who can play in defence or further forward, spent the last six seasons at the Italian club making 235 appearances and scoring 20 goals.
He began his career at Cruziero in 2001 before moving to French side AS Monaco in June 2004.
Maicon was called up to the Brazilian national team in 2003 and has won 66 caps for his country.
One of his finer moments at international level was scoring a stunning goal against North Korea at 2010's World Cup.
The defender will meet Blues manager Mancini and his new teammates when he returns from international duty next week.

Swansea City have completed the signing of Valencia winger Pablo Hernandez for a club record fee of £5.55m.
Hernandez, 27, signed a three-year contract at the Liberty late this afternoon after passing his medical and finalising personal terms. The move, which is subject to international clearance, was made ahead of tonight’s transfer deadline.
“I’m very happy to become a Swansea City player,’’ explained Hernandez. “It was my target as soon as I knew there was interest. There were offers from other clubs, but this was the only club I wanted to join.
“I want to thank the club and Michael Laudrup for making me feel like a very important player. Now I want to repay that faith on the football field.
“Swansea is a very important football club and will only keep getting better. They were a good side last year and look even better so far this season. I watched the game against West Ham on TV last week and they played some good football. I also liked the atmosphere; the fans are good and together with Michael Laudrup’s presence it’s an exciting package.’’
But Hernandez admitted that it was the Laudrup factor that was key to the switch from Spain to Wales.
“Michael was my idol when I was young,’’ he added. “Then I was lucky enough to play under him at Getafe
.
“I was a young player at Getafe and I learnt a lot from him. He gave me confidence and I have a lot to thank him for. Now I want to help him at Swansea in return, because he was very important for my career.’’
The record transfer fee surpassed that paid last week for Ki Sung-Yueng from Celtic by just £50,000.
Hernandez, who will not figure against Sunderland tomorrow at the Liberty Stadium, is a product of the Youth system at Valencia and made his senior debut in the final match of the 2006-07 season.
He spent the following campaign on loan at second-tier club Cadiz, scoring four league goals in 22 league appearances.
He then transferred to Getafe as part of the deal that took defender Alexis to the Mestalla, and he helped his new club to the Spanish Cup final where, coincidentally, they lost to Valencia.
But the winger returned to his former club a year later for 1million Euros on a six-year contract.
He earned a regular spot in the starting XI in 2009, despite competition from Spanish international Joaquin, and his performances that year earned him a first cap for Spain as they finished third in the Confederations Cup.
Capped four times by Spain, Hernandez has plenty of experience of playing against English opposition - he featured in the Champions League group matches against Manchester United in 2010-11 and Chelsea in the same competition last season before Valencia dropped into the Europa League where they beat Stoke City.
Last season he made 40 appearances in all competitions, scoring five times, as he helped Valencia to third spot in La Liga which ensured qualification for the Champions League.
"I managed Pablo in Getafe and he did fantastic for us,’’ explained Swans boss Michael Laudrup. “He did so well and went back to Valencia, who are the equivalent in Spain of Arsenal over here.
They have indeed. It helps they've got a manager all their new players idolized as kids.Swansea have been ace in this xfer window.
They have indeed. It helps they've got a manager all their new players idolized as kids.
They've lost some vital players too mind and at some stage their luck will turn and how they respond will be very telling of how far Laudrup can take them I believe. Very interesting.
Completely agree mate.Mate, whether it pays off or not, I've loved their attitude to their signings. They've gone for it.
Mate, whether it pays off or not, I've loved their attitude to their signings. They've gone for it.
They've got very good players at great prices. How on earth did a player who scored 15 goals in la liga last year from midfield only cost 2.5 mill? Or Pablo @ 5.5? GREAT GREAT work there.
Ajax says it has agreed to sign winger Ryan Babel — who started his playing career at the Amsterdam club — on a one-year contract.
The club says Babel, who has been released by Hoffenheim, will sign his contract once the former Liverpool midfielder has completed a medical.
Ajax director of football Marc Overmars said Friday that Babel wanted to return to the club he played 111 matches for after making his debut in 2004 "to prove he's a good player."
Overmars says the contract does not have to be signed by the midnight end of the transfer window because Babel is a free agent.

Clint Dempsey described his move to Spurs as 'a dream come true'.
We reached agreement with Fulham for the transfer for the US international on transfer deadline day.
The attacking midfielder joins us after top-scoring at Craven Cottage in the last two seasons.
“I’m very excited and looking forward to the challenge,” said Clint.
“To play under this Head Coach and play for this club is a dream come true. I want to make the most of it and work as hard as I can to get onto the field and do well.
“There are a lot of great players here, I’m looking forward to training and playing with them and trying to fight for a spot in the team.”
On his departure from Fulham, Clint added: “A lot was said and written ahead of me leaving Fulham. It wasn’t how it was portrayed, but that’s in the past now and we move on.
“I want to thank the fans for everything, some of the best memories I’ve had in football and thank the chairman for giving me the opportunity to come from the MLS and compete over here.

NORWICH City have agreed a deadline day deal with Tottenham Hotspur to bring England Under-19 striker Harry Kane to Carrow Road on a season-long loan.
Kane becomes City Manager Chris Hughton’s ninth summer signing, joining Steven Whittaker, Jacob Butterfield, Michael Turner, Robert Snodgrass, Javier Garrido, Sebastien Bassong, Alex Tettey, and Mark Bunn in the Canaries’ ranks.
Hughton told Canaries.co.uk: “I'm delighted to bring in someone of the quality of Harry. He is a very talented young player and has bags of potential.
“He enjoys scoring goals as he shown coming through the ranks at Spurs and during some good loan spells as well.”
Ironically Hughton’s men are set to face Tottenham in the Barclays Premier League at White Hart Lane on Saturday – although Kane will not be available to for the game, just two weeks after making his league debut for Andre Villas-Boas’ side as an 86th minute substitute away to Newcastle.
A talented Walthamstow-born forward, Kane has had successful loan spells with Leyton Orient and Millwall over the past two seasons, and made his Spurs debut in a UEFA Europa League play-off game against Hearts in August, 2011.
The 19-year-old won many admirers during his loan with Orient, finding the net five times in 18 appearances during the second half of the 2010-11 campaign.
He then continued to flourish for Millwall last season, joining the Lions in January 2012 and scoring a further 10 times in 27 games as he struck up a fruitful partnership with Andy Keogh, helping to secure the side’s Championship status and winning the club’s Young Player of the Year award in the process.
Kane rose to prominence in the 2009-10 season, firing in 18 goals in just 22 games for Tottenham’s Under-18s, and subsequently went on to represent England at both Under-17 and 19 levels.
He was a key part of England’s march to the UEFA U19 European Championship semi-finals in the summer, and netted the winning goal in a crucial 2-1 victory over France to ensure his side advanced from the group stages.
