Confirmed transfers 2012/13

Quite lucky?
You're joking right?

I wish we had a couple of former players as managers that would take all our deadwood off our hands for an extortionate fee.
There might need to be a bung involved though I guess.
I would imagine that is the case there too.
Allegedly.

José Manuel Flores - Swansea City (£2m, plus potential add-ons)

Swansea City have completed the signing of Spanish central defender José Manuel Flores from Genoa for £2m, plus potential add-ons.

The 25-year-old, better known as Chico, completed a medical yesterday and agreed a three-year contract, subject to international clearance.

"I'm very happy to be here,'' explained Chico. "I know I am joining a club that has been growing over the last few years and is still ambitious to go even higher.

"Having played in La Liga (Spain) and Serie A (Italy), two great leagues, it's a dream come true to play in the Premier League, one of the best, if not the best, in the world.''

Chico also confirmed that new Swans boss Michael Laudrup was also a key factor in persuading him to come to Wales after playing under the Great Dane at Mallorca last season.

"He was one of the main reasons I signed,'' explained Chico. "He knows me as a person and a player, so I was honoured when the call came.

"I believe the manager will be good for Swansea and they have done extremely well to get him. Swansea's way of playing is the same style as he wants to play the game. He is the right person to take this club forward.''

Chico, who will also add a physical presence to the side at 6ft 2in, also buys into the Swansea philosophy, adding: "Being brought up in Spain, I have the same culture of possession and passing football. I like to play from the back, come forward with the ball, and add to the possession game.

"I'm really looking forward to it. I have been studying Swansea on the internet and I know I am joining a club with passionate supporters who are very close to the players.''

Chico's career started as a youth player with hometown club Cádiz CF in 2005. He also spent loan spells at Racing Club Portuense and Barcelona B, helping the Catalans gain promotion to level three.

The defender then signed with Cádiz neighbours Unión Deportiva Almería to help the club maintain its top flight status in La Liga after a 13th place finish.

Having made his debut for the Spanish Under-21 side, he signed a five-year contract for Genoa in Italy for €4 million in July 2010.

A year later he agreed a one-year loan deal with RCD Mallorca where he teamed up with the current Swans boss, making 33 appearances.

Peter Lovenkrands - Birmingham City (free transfer)

Blues have completed the signing of versatile forward Peter Lovenkrands on a two-year deal with a further year's option.

The Denmark international agreed personal terms over the weekend and completed his medical earlier today to become Lee Clark's first capture as Blues boss.

Reflecting on the arrival of the ex-Newcastle United man, Clark told bcfc.com: "He did very well for Newcastle, has scored goals at this level and he played a huge part in getting them promoted from this division, actually winning the league.

"People I have spoken to about him have been very impressed. He had a good pedigree at Rangers scoring Champions League goals and we are looking forward to adding him to the squad.

"When I spoke to him about the move he made a decision very quickly. Once we got an agreement, he's bringing his family down, moving to the area, doing that very, very quickly as well so it shows you he's very committed to the job in hand and that can only be good for us and the supporters.

"I have got to see him quite a bit and he's a very popular guy as well. He has a good work ethic and he ticked all the boxes for me in terms of not just being a good player but by being a good character."

The 32-year-old, who has represented his country 22 times including appearances at the 2002 FIFA World Cup and Euro 2004, began his senior playing career in his homeland with Akademisk Boldklub but came to prominence during six hugely-successful years with Glasgow Rangers. The Horsholm-born star went on to spend three years in Germany with Schalke 04 before linking up with Newcastle United in January 2009.

David Lucas - Birmingham City (free transfer)

Lee Clark has moved quickly to bring his goalkeeping ranks up to strength by signing experienced stopper David Lucas.

The 34-year-old ex-England under-20 international has signed a one-year deal with the club.

Lucas now joins Jack Butland and Colin Doyle as a trio of goalkeepers at Clark's disposal.

"I'm delighted to welcome David to the club and he will now compete with Jack and Colin for the number one spot," said the Blues boss.

"It's very important for us to always have three senior goalkeepers to call upon because, for example, we could find ourselves without Jack Butland for the Capital One Cup tie against Barnet due to international duty."

Lucas began his career at Preston North End in 1994 and spent ten years at Deepdale, before moving on to Sheffield Wednesday.

After two-years with The Owls he went on to have spells at Barnsley, Leeds and Swindon Town.

Most recently Lucas was at Rochdale where he assumed a dual role as player-coach before leaving Spotland in May 2012.

Eljero Elia - Werder Bremen (€5.5 million, potential add on of €2m)

The transfer of Netherlands offensive specialist Eljero Elia is complete. The 25-year-old dissolved his contract with Juventus Turin and signed a four-year contract with Werder Bremen until 30 June 2016.

Werder manager Klaus Allofs confirmed the transfer. "We are happy that he now belongs to Werder Bremen. He is already participating in team training," said Allofs. Elia travelled to Bremen on Sunday to complete his medical check-up in the Bremen Reha Centre. On Monday Werder's new number 11 travelled on to the Green-Whites' training camp on Norderney where he could not yet train with the team because the final contract details between him and Juventus Turin had not yet been worked out. The Dutch international completed his lactate test Tuesday morning and trained for the first time in the morning.

The 26-time Dutch international, who was runner-up at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and played his last international last October, is happy about the new chance in the Bundesliga. "I really know the league well, it's among the best in the world with full stadiums and a very strong competition at a high level. I would like to incorporate myself quickly and use my performance with Werder to make the national team again," said the newcomer.

Eljero George Rinaldo Elia, as the father of a 2-year-old daughter is called by his full name, began his career in the youth teams of Ajax Amsterdam and transferred from stops at ADO Den Haag and FC Twente Enschede to the Bundesliga where he played starting in 2009 for two years with Hamburg. He appeared in 52 Bundesliga matches scoring seven goals. Elia knows one of his Bremen teammates well as he played with Marko Arnautovic with FC Twente Enschede, where Elia in 2009 was named the best young player in the country. Elia did not have much success at his last stop Juventus Turin, where he played in just four league matches and one cup game.

It finally happened Tuesday morning. Eljero Elia was part of Werder Bremen. The Dutchman with Suriname roots is the sixth new acquisition for Werder for this season and is expected to help Bremen's attack. WERDER.DE interviewed the 25-year-old.

Hello Eljero, welcome to Werder Bremen. Despite numerous other officers, you decided for SVW. What made the difference?

Eljero Elia: I actually had a number of offers from England and the Bundesliga. But I decided for Werder because I had a very good feeling. The talks with Klaus Allofs and Thomas Schaaf convinced me. Besides, Werder is an offensively-minded team which fits me. Just everything fit together better than the rest.

On the second game day you will take part in the North Derby against your former club, Hamburg. Will that be a special match for you?

Eljero Elia: I am looking forward to every match in the Bundesliga. The stadiums are always full and there is always a great atmosphere. But of course the match against Hamburg will be a special game. I played for two years in Hamburg and still have contact to some players such as Dennis Aogo, Bruma and Gökhan Töre.

You are likely looking forward to one teammate especially. At Werder you will meet up with Marko Arnautovic, who you know from your time with Twente Enschede.

Eljero Elia: Marko is a friend of mine. We did a lot together and still have regular contact. When I played in Hamburg, Marko came often to visit. I am happy to play with him again.

In Enschede, you had a successful time. What do you intend for your time with Werder?

Eljero Elia: I would like to help that we play internationally next season. Werder belong in a European competition. In addition, I would like to do my part that we play offensive and attractive football - Werder stand for that.

Nicky Shorey - Reading (free transfer)

The Royals are very pleased to announced that defender Nicky Shorey is returning to Reading.

The left back, who played 286 games for the Royals in a seven-year spell from 2001 to 2008, and was voted by our fans as the best left back in the club's entire history, has signed a one-year deal with the additional option of a second season.

The Essex-born defender, who has spent the last six years in the Barclays Premier League with more than 150 top flight appearances under his belt, trained with the Royals again this morning, back on very familiar ground at Hogwood Park.

He will take squad number 3.

Chairman Sir John Madejski said, "I would like to welcome Nicky back to Reading Football Club, he was an outstanding player here once before and we are looking forward to him triumphing even more this time around.

"I know the manager was very keen to have Nicky back, that makes a huge difference and so good luck to him once again."

Nicky, 31 last February, came to Reading from Leyton Orient in 2001 when Brian McDermott was Chief Scout to Alan Pardew, and went on to become a full England international during his time at Madejski Stadium, playing in England's very first game at the new Wembley against Brazil. 'Shorey for England' had become a regular cry from our supporters.

He is one of only a handful of players to have won two promotions with Reading, and when he moved to Aston Villa in 2008, only Graeme Murty had played more games for Reading at Madejski Stadium.

Nicky's story was another example of how players have developed at Reading, and have also arguably played the best football of their career in the blue and white hoops.

Nicky could now make his second debut for the club in our first pre-season friendly of the summer away to AFC Wimbledon this coming weekend.

Alan Smith - MK Dons (free transfer)

Alan Smith has this afternoon (Tuesday) completed his move to Milton Keynes Dons, putting pen to paper on a two-year deal.

After agreeing terms with the Club this morning Smith linked up with his team mates for the first day of pre-season training before inking his new contract at stadiummk.

Smith spent five months on loan with the Dons last season and was a valuable influence both on and off the pitch. His five-year contract with Newcastle United expired in the summer and as a result Dons boss Karl Robinson made the former Leeds United and Manchester United star his number one target.

The 31-year-old, who scored two goals in 18 appearances for the Dons last year, had numerous offers but has unfinished business at stadiummk and is determined to see the side clinch promotion to the Championship.

Smith said: "When I came here last year I felt part of what the Club were trying to achieve.

"I made it clear I wanted to stay. There were quite a few other clubs in higher divisions that were interested in me but I think for me, in this stage of my career, I've come to the perfect place.

"What I hope for now is two years where I can commit to MK Dons, give everything that I've got and do everything in my power to help us win promotion to the Championship."

Boss Robinson added: "Alan Smith signing gives us great versatility whether it is in midfield or up front, and he is a tremendous character in the dressing room.

"It's a big signing for us. He turned down a number of other clubs to come to MK Dons and I think he will be a great asset for us."

Fucking hell thats depressing for them. Shorey was voted their best ever left back

fuuuuuuuck

Dodo - Roma (free transfer)

SABATINI
The man to my left is Dodò. He's 20, plays left-back, and joins us from Corinthians, although we watched him at Bahia where he suffered a serious injury from which he's still recovering. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Corinthians because his contract is not up until 31 July and yet he is already working with us. As I've done in the past, I'd like to stress just what a good player he is. Dodò is a terrific footballer, who will show all his technical ability and Giallorossi fans will be proud to see him wearing Roma colours. We're pleased to have signed him, now we need to be patient before seeing him in the squad. I'd also like to clear something up regarding the transfer market. I don't think that we need necessarily have a party line at the club. Yesterday Totti said what he thought, and that's his prerogative. I'd have preferred him to have said, "I'm the leader of a group of lads who are ready to fight." But he also said some nice things about his team-mates. Francesco was just going along with what people expect of Roma. Everyone wants top players. But we're working well in that respect.

Borini? Liverpool have shown interest in him and we're weighing up the situation with Franco Baldini and the club. We'll see what comes of this. Tachsidis and Bradley? The deals for them have not ground to a halt. Jung? That's simply something we're considering. Destro? We've always kept a very close eye on the situation regarding him, as you know he's currently at Siena but he is between two clubs.

DODÒ
WHY ROMA?
Yes, I've had a number of offers while I've been working back to full fitness from my injury, but Roma were the first to track me and they showed a real interest in me. That was a key factor in my decision to join. The Giallorossi have watched my progress for a while now, both at youth level and in the Brazilian league.

RECOVERY
It's going quite well for the moment, but of course I'm lacking fitness and muscle mass. I train morning, noon and night. I'm doing lighter training so that I can join the squad without any problems. There's not a set date for my return to action, the coach will decide when he wants to play me. I'm working to be back ready as quickly as possible and my target is to be able to be back playing as soon as I can.

RESPONSIBILITY
Of course pressure comes with playing for Roma, but I'm used to playing for big clubs. In Brazil I replaced Roberto Carlos.

QUALITIES
My main strengths – for those who have already seen me in some of the games I played in Brazil – lie in helping the team build the play from the back, helping to construct a move. Number 27? I wore it in Brazil and it brought me a lot of luck. Zeman's style of play? I'll only understand what my role is once I have a few training sessions under my belt. I almost always played in a 4-4-2 in Brazil but in a 3-5-2 as well. With the national team we played 4-3-3. I already know how this system works. What are my thoughts on the coach? I've only been here a few days, but in Brazil I was told that Zeman is a very honest and professional man, who will be able to get the best out of the team.

FUTURE
Starter or substitute? Our training camp has barely started, these are things that the coach will decide over the coming months. What do I think about the league? I see a very strong Roma side, with every chance of fighting at the top end of the table and competing for a Champions League place.

THE DEAL AND INSPIRATION
The Roma deal had been on the table for a while, and with Corinthians it was just a case of ironing out the details. In any case I was able to prepare mentally for coming to Italy and Roma. Totti is the example for everyone here. He's one of the best-known players in Brazil, where we appreciate technically-gifted players like him. Who do I look up to? Roberto Carlos really is my role model because he's also a left-back and he was a team-mate of mine. He gave me the benefit of all his experience in training. Everyone knows him, he's probably the best left-back of all time. Castan? He’s an excellent centre back and he will help Roma a lot in the league.

Jonathan de Guzman - Swansea (loan)

Swans boss Michael Laudrup has made Villarreal's Jonathan de Guzman his second signing of the new campaign.

The attacking midfielder, 24, completed a medical today and signed a one-year loan deal at the Liberty Stadium, with an option to make the move permanent.

"Once the opportunity came along to join Swansea and Michael Laudrup it was a done deal,'' declared the former Dutch Under-21 international and Olympian. "I didn't have to think twice about it.

"I watched Premier League football every week on the TV last season. I was aware that Swansea are a good footballing side, but they really caught my eye when they beat Manchester City.

"They had a great season and I'm really looking forward to the challenge of playing on a new podium in the Premier League.

"I'm grateful for the opportunity and grateful that the manager has acknowledged me as a player.''

Born in Ontario, Canada, he moved to the Netherlands to join Feyenoord's youth academy and played over 100 games for the Rotterdam club.

He also opted to represent the Netherlands after he gained Dutch citizenship, winning four Under-21 caps along with six appearances at the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008.

He joined up with Laudrup at Mallorca on a free transfer in 2010 before being sold on transfer deadline day to Villarreal for around £7m in August 2011 after 38 appearances.

After making an encouraging start at El Madrigal, de Guzman found game time at a premium after the club appointed a new manager.

It helped make his decision to move to Swansea that much easier when the call came from Laudrup.

"I didn't get much game time when the new coach came in,'' confirmed de Guzman. "It was a frustrating time for me.

"I just want to play football on a regular basis again. I'm fortunate that I will be working under a good coach (Laudrup) at Swansea who lets you be free and allows you to do what you do best.

"I like to attack as a midfielder, box to box, and hopefully I can add my share of goals along the way.''

Dani Carvajal - Leverkusen (€5m)

Dani Carvajal is officially a Bayer Leverkusen player. The Castilla (Real Madrid B) full-back has been at the Santiago Bernabéu ironing out the final details of his €5m move to the German club, with whom he has signed a five-year contract.

Accompanied by his agents and his father, the player met with the Real Madrid chief executive José Ángel Sánchez to straighten out the nuts and bolts of the transfer. Having left the offices at the Bernabéu, he will be catching a flight to Leverkusen, where he will undergo a medical and be officially presented by the German outfit before joining up with his team-mates for pre-season training under the Finnish coach Sami Hyypiä.

"I’m really pleased to have made this decision and grateful for the opportunity Bayer Leverkusen has given me. It’s a big step up for me to go from the Spanish Second Division to the Bundesliga, with the chance to play in the Europa League. This is a really big opportunity. I’m looking forward to this challenge and hope to come back to Real Madrid one day, if I’m ready", Carvajal stated after sealing his departure from the club.

for €5.5 million would Elia not have been worth a punt or is he shite ?

Paddy Kenny - Leeds (undisclosed fee)

Leeds United have completed the signing of Queens Park Rangers goalkeeper Paddy Kenny for an undisclosed sum.

The 34-year-old joins the club on a three-year contract and met his new team-mates for the first time at Thorp Arch on Wednesday.

Paddy arrives at Elland Road with a wealth of experience and knows manager Neil Warnock well, having worked with the United boss at Bury, Sheffield United, and QPR.

Paddy, a Yorkshireman, is a two-time promotion winner to the Premier League, with Sheffield United and QPR, and made 33 Premier League starts last season, keeping seven clean sheets.

He won Player of the Year awards at both Bramall Lane and Loftus Road and has made almost 600 career appearances.
The goalkeeper becomes the club's fourth signing of the summer, following Jason Pearce, Adam Drury, and Paul Green to United.

United manager Neil Warnock firmly believes he has made one of most important signings with the arrival of Paddy Kenny at Elland Road.

The experienced goalkeeper completed his switch from Queens Park Rangers on Wednesday when he signed a three-year contract and one of the worst kept secrets in football was confirmed when Paddy became a Leeds United player.

"I don't think you can keep secrets at Leeds United," laughed the United manager. "Somebody knows everything!

"We've worked very hard with this one. It's taken some time to get over the line, but I think he's the most important signing I'll make while I'm at Leeds United. I rate him that highly, and I think the fans will see why."

Paddy made 33 Premier League appearances for QPR last season and kept a club record clean sheets during the Londoners promotion season in 2010/11.

"I didn't think we'd be able to get him," conceded the boss. "There's no way I would have let him go. I wouldn't have swapped him for anybody they have on their books.

"I think he's a great keeper. He's one of the best in the country, not just the Championship.

"We are delighted to get him. He's a northern lad, he knows what a pull Leeds is and he knows all about it.

"We've had our moments over the years, but we respect each other and that's why he always been the main man I've wanted to sign. We've had to put others on hold, because I wanted to get this one over the line."

The United boss is also anticipating making further additions to his squad following the return to pre-season on Wednesday.

"We have a number where we have made offers and all sorts of things where we're trying to do deals," he explained. "I'd like to bring in a few others, ideally before we go to Cornwall, but we'll see.

"We're looking all over the place. Every area, we're looking to bring other players in. I'll move on to my next main target now and see if we can secure him over the next few days and the squad will take shape towards the kick-off."

Maxi Lopez - Sampdoria (loan)

Former Milan striker Maxi Lopez's move from Catania to Sampdoria has been confirmed.

The Argentine spoke to the media in Genoa last night shortly after signing off on a deal which will see the port club pay €2.5m for a year’s loan, with an option to make the transfer permanent for a further €6m.

“I am happy to arrive in Genoa,” Lopez told Sky Sport Italia. “Sampdoria have an important project, they demonstrated a strong interest in me and this is what counts.

“A big hello to all fans of Sampdoria.”

The 28-year-old's arrival represents an important building block for newly promoted Samp, whose priority since replacing Beppe Iachini with new Coach Ciro Ferrara has been the capture of a centre-forward.

The Blucerchiati had been strongly linked with old boy Giampaolo Pazzini, until sporting director Pasquale Sensible's confession yesterday that the Inter forward was out of their price range.

Former River Plate and Barcelona man Lopez has struck 23 Serie A goals since his first arrival in Italy in 2010.

He spent the latter half of last season on loan at Milan, but returned to Catania when the Rossoneri refused to take up their option on him. He had also been linked with Torino.

Otman Bakkal - Dynamo Moscow (free transfer)

Dynamo Moscow have signed Dutch midfielder Otman Bakkal, who played for Feyenoord on loan from PSV last season, on a three-year term.

The 27-year-old has joined Dynamo as a free agent as his contract with PSV had expired. No financial details of the deal were disclosed.

"I was convinced that Dynamo is a very serious club from my very first contact with their representatives," Bakkal said. "And what I've seen here on arrival lived up to my expectations completely."

"Dynamo are ambitious team and I was completely satisfied with their proposal. I'm happy to become a part of such a great club."

Yassine El Ghanassy - West Brom (loan with option to buy)

ALBION have completed their second summer signing by snapping up Belgium international Yassine El Ghanassy.

The AA Gent winger, who turns 22 tomorrow, has joined on a season-long loan deal - subject to international clearance. The Baggies have an option to make the move permanent.

El Ghanassy, who can play on either flank and also as a striker, has passed a Hawthorns medical and will wear the No.10 shirt.

He has become renowned in Belgium for his pace and trickery on the ball and won the first of his two full international caps against Finland in February 2011.

Head coach Steve Clarke said: "I'm delighted to welcome Yassine to the club.

"He is an exciting, young prospect who will hopefully add something different to our squad.

"This is a big move for Yassine and we'll have to be patient with him as he settles into a new country and gets to grips with the demands of the Barclays Premier League.

"But we believe he has got the raw talent to make an impact here."

El Ghanassy made 37 appearances for AA Gent last term, scoring seven times, as they finished third in the Belgian top flight.

In 2010, he helped the Buffalos complete the double - winning the Belgian First Division and Belgian Cup in the same season.

The 5ft9in player joined AA Gent from Third Division side La Louviere in 2008 and has played in both the Champions League and Europa League during his four years at the club.

Sporting & technical director Dan Ashworth said: "Yassine is a player we have watched develop for a couple of years.

"He has shown in Belgium his ability to put defenders on the back foot and create and score goals and he is on the fringes of the national team.

"He is an exciting, young player who we hope will grow into the league and prove a real asset.

"He offers us a different option and is the type of player I am sure our supporters will warm to and get right behind."

El Ghanassy's international career began with Belgium under-19s and he has six under-21 caps to his name, scoring once.

In total, El Ghanassy has made 147 appearances in all competitions for AA Gent, scoring 17 goals.

Bayer 04 have succeeded in bringing in a new right back with the signing of Daniel Carvajal Ramos. The 20-year-old U-19 European Champion in 2011 has signed a contract to 30 June 2017. The two clubs have agreed not to disclose details of the transfer.

“This transfer has ensured we are in a perfect situation for the future in terms of the important position of right back. Daniel Carvajal is already a great player and has huge potential given his age. He is definitely a top quality signing for us,” declared Bayer 04 managing director Wolfgang Holzhäuser.

Sporting director Rudi Völler also assessed the signing of Carvajal, who will wear the number 20 shirt at Leverkusen, as an important part of the future development at Bayer 04. “Daniel Carvajal completely suits our style of play. He’s an outstanding player, has great quality going forward and will continue to develop with us. We are happy to have been able to complete the deal,” added Völler.

Gylfi Sigurdsson is targeting silverware after joining 'a massive club with fantastic players'.

The Iceland international midfielder made his ambitions clear as he spoke to us for the first time after his summer switch from Hoffenheim.

“I’m delighted to be here,” said Gylfi after training on Tuesday. “It’s a massive club with fantastic players.

“This club is always improving. There is massive ambition from the board and the players are really ambitious as well. We’re all looking forward for the new season to begin.”

Gylfi made quite an impression in a loan spell in the Premier League at Swansea last season when he scored seven goals in 19 appearances and won the Barclays Player of the Month for March.

“The main target at Swansea was to stay in the league, here at Spurs, it’s a big club and we aim to win titles and silverware,” he added.

“I think the most important thing is that we get off to a good start in the Premier League, get a good momentum and then we can take that into the Europa League and then the FA Cup. We want to play for silverware in every competition we are in.”

Gylfi has enjoyed the start of pre-season training with Andre Villas-Boas and his coaching staff.
“He’s great, very positive about coming here and the players have really enjoyed it," he said. "It looks good with him and all of the staff. I can’t wait for the season to start.”
