Confident We'll Spend Well This Summer?

The powers that be are fed up with Suarez and his histronics (who can lame them) so 45-50M will seal a deal.

Is this a fact or is this just like, your opinion?

Talk about cutting your nose off to spite your face.

Ian Ayre: This Suarez cunt is making me work too hard.
Brendan Rogers: Yeah and his body language at that pre season game was all wrong
Ian Ayre: True dat
Brendan Rogers: And we need to improve the team, so I'd say sell him for less than his value.
Ian Ayre: Yeah that seems logical and then we can all get one with running the club (badly) without him
Brendan Rogers: Agreed - sold to Arsenal for £40m. Anyway can I buy Joey Barton as a replacement?
Ian Ayre: Of course. Is he any good?

Btw, I think Sheik worded the thread title very well. Spend well rather than spend big. I think that's crucial. Don't get me wrong, I do think we need quality signing and like every/most fan would love it if we make big name/money signings. But then again, we all know big money does not necessary guarantee success.

Looking at the Dortmund team which Rodgers previously stated as a model, the likes of Lewandowski and Błaszczykowski only had 2 and 3 seasons of top flight football in Poland respectively prior to their move there. Sven Bender's only experience was 3 seasons of football with 1860 Munchen in 2. Bundesliga. Lukasz Piszczek was signed on a free transfer from Hertha Berlin who were relegated after finishing bottom of the league. Then, there's Kagawa from Japanese League for €350k. Closer to home, there's always the likes of Michu, Benteke (and Coutinho 😀).

Net spend 2012/13: 40 mill

Net spend 2011/12: 35 mill

Why does anyone think we wont spend in this window?

The fact we've spent so much already would be a good start!!

Personally I felt that we wouldn't be spending any more this summer after we splashed £20m from nowhere in January, but then all the usual reliable sources kept insisting we had a £20m budget again. Maybe we do, maybe we don't.

As for the transfers under Rodgers, I think things have clearly changed with this 'transfer committee' or whatever it is. Almost all the players we've been linked to (credibly) this close season have been very different in terms of canniness and knowledge of the European market than Rodgers displayed on his own in going for Allen, Borini, and Dempsey last summer. I'm thinking of Aspas and Luis Alberto (even though I'm unconvinced by them, I think they're clearly different 'types' of signings from those 3 main targets of last summer), but also Mkhitaryan, Bernard, Papadopoulos, Ilori, Luis Muriel, etc. I tend to believe all of those players have been considered reasonably strongly.

So on the basis of that improvement in strategy that I think is perceptible, I'd be confident in us spending any large amount of money.

Im confident in Aspas from what Ive seen, Mignolet looks like he will be a good buy in the years to come. Toure, hmmmm well on a free I guess we cant really complain.

Alberto is one for the future,

What Im actually looking forward to is seeing some others progress from last year.... Sterling, Allen, Henderson, Borini.... If these guys can kick on and we add a few decent enough players we can push for CL definitely.

Henry and Co. will want top dollar for Suarez that's a fact. My opinion is a compromise deal may be done for anything in the range of 45-50M depending on identified replacement targets.
