I think that's a bit of a waste of Henderson's abilities. He likes to move about a lot, box to box. Plus he's not a specialised defensive mid. Sticking him there now could also halt his development.

The Sakho signing could prove to be a great one. I've kept an eye on his career for years but never really thought we'd have a chance of signing him.

He's Lucas' backup.
 
I don't know what to make of it because I know fuck-all about any of the players we've signed.

Mignolet and Toure have been a very pleasant surprise, and I welcome the Moses deal having seen him plenty of times impressing for Chelsea. I'm relieved we've got around to making defensive signings. Would have liked one powerhouse DM to have been signed because our midfield looks very lightweight and short of competition.
 
Bit short up front but this is easily our best squad in this and many a year.

We've got rid of almost all the deadwood and we now have a young, hungry, exciting squad of players.

Not getting carried away by any means but things are looking good.
 
Its a very well balanced young and hungry squad.

A lot will hang on Moses doing the business.
Sturridge needs to stay fit.
And of course we need to hope Suarez doesnt act the cunt.

If all things come together we should get a lot of clean sheets and cause all teams problems.
 
No European Footy means we have a tema capable of coming in the top 3 if we don't suffer any long term injuries.

The only department where we are a bit light is CM.

And Toure ahead of Agger everyday of the week.

Our strongest side is looking superb.

Just realised something, who do we bring on if we need a goal? Aspas seems to be our only option on the bench.
 
You must be out of your mind if you think Brendan is gonna bench Agger...fuck, we turned down Barca.
 
Complain all you want Brendan is never gonna bench Lucas. Its not gonna happen. Period.
He did it once, against Southampton and it blew up in his face.
Just get that out of your system, because you could put those brain cells to better use.

I think Henderson has a great opportunity to cement a defining role in our midfield, should he continue his improvement.
 
Hopefully we are in the thick of things come January, a good DM there and we would be set. I think that's the only position of real need, maybe a winger if Moses doesn't perform.
 
How's Wanyama done in the first few games for Southampton?

And how's M'Vila doing in Russia? Anybody?
 
I wonder if any of our centre backs could do a job in midfield if anything happened to Lucas, like that time Carragher did it for England and everyone shit their pants at how good he was.

I feel like Kolo might be amazing in that role. Better tackler than Lucas, similar passing range, good positional awareness. He likes to make bursting runs when playing CB from what we've seen, and that would be something good to see from a DM we would play.

Would also be amazing on set pieces to have three central defenders, defending and attacking.
 
Jesus Christ this is turning into football manager. Touré would be terrible in that role. Similar passing ability? Are you having a laugh?
What about technique?

We didn't have a better CB at that stage, we have now. We turned down Barca because we didn't have any guarantees on getting Sahko in.

I think the only safe CM is Gerrard and the way Hendo is improving I think we could see it happen.

The fact Allen has been frozen out and Borini has been shipped out should prove that Rodgers is happy to change his ideas if someone isn't doing enough.
 
I thought Wisdom maybe but I'm not sure he has the experience for it, there were a few matches he didnt fare so well with the ball at his feet and the opposition closing in. I think he'd fare alright with the defensive duties though.

Way I see it...

Pros:
  • Aerial presence in midfield
  • More attacking threat
  • Better defending
  • Set Pieces
  • Steel and Grit
  • Agger and Sakho can both start as well

Cons:
  • Lose some passing ability

I firmly believe that Kolo is experienced enough the play the role much more intelligently than Lucas at this point, and has the physical ability to execute. If we can keep him from breaking, he could be totally boss in that role.
 
I think Kolo has played there before in his career. I wouldn't put him there for us, though.
