Fabio Borini £10,400,000
Joe Allen £15,000,000
Oussama Assaidi £3,000,000
Nuri Sahin On Loan
Samed Yesil £1,000,000
Daniel Sturridge £12,000,000
Philippe Coutinho £8,500,000
Luis Alberto £6,800,000
Iago Aspas £7,000,000
Simon Mignolet £9,000,000
Kolo Touré Free

I'm not.

Borini the jury is still out on.
Assaidi is shite.
Toure, Yesil, Sahin cost a combined 1M, so hardly a major "spend".
Coutinho, Sturridge, Allen, Mignolet are all good buys.
Alberto I've seen fuck all of.

S'all about interpretations innit?

Sterling, Coutinho and Mignolet are good signings I think. The rest are squad fillers. Can you see us buying two or three top notch players that will make the first team?

Yes im confident.
Happy with the manority of our business under Mr Rodgers so far.
He signed a lot of players for the future and then when he realised we needed more for the 'now' he brought in Sturridge and Coutinho for just 20m
This summer he has bought a good keeper and two young Spaniards (one of whom has scored 2 goals in preseason).
Hope he keeps it up with thw Suarez money.

I presume you mean Sturridge?

Yeah I can. I've like the look of the players he's been linked too, and with some top dollar to spend instead of these 10M-jobs he's having to go after, I think he'd do well.

I'd dearly love him to buy a quality CB, that's really my only reservation about his transfer policy so far. But he seems to like and mostly sign guys that can actually play football, which is a pretty good start.

The players we have signed all have good technical skills so that's a positive.

Just hope we can add some grit to the mix...

I like the look of most of the players we've been credibly linked to this summer. Less so the ones we've actually signed. Not quite sure what the deal is with Alberto and Aspas.... can't help thinking we'd have been better spending that money on one quality attacker tbh.

Anyway, that aside I'd be confident if we suddenly found ourselves with £70m to spend...

but then why did he spend 20-25m on the two spanish lads and a keeper who wasn't a major priority if Renia stayed ? Would we not have been better off with one top player ? Do we really need all these 'squad' players ?

Happy with Sturridge and Countinho (well, till next summer when he probably wants away). Keeper is neither here nor there, the rest look like numbers rather than quality.
We needed 3 or 4 new first team players IMO, not more squad options.
Depends what we do with the Suarez money now, using that properly might render some of the above purchases academic.

I guess he needed to add more quality to the squad, but I'm with you in some respects - I'd have spent big on a quality CB long before some of the other positions he went for.

Sheikh is raising the point I have a few times - it's all fine and dandy selling Voldemort for 50 million, but people seem to a) be taking it for granted we'll replace with as good a talent and b) how fucking good Voldermort is.

I hope my doubt is unfounded but it's irrelevant - he needs to go, especially if he's causing ANY damage to the dressing room. I think this will most likely have a very negative effect however on our other South American star

Sturridge and Coutinho were obviously inspired signings.

Think Aspas, Allen and Mignolet will also be good signings.

I don't have much hope for Borini. Alberto, I really don't know yet.

Assaidi, Sahin, Yesil and Toure can be written off as they cost peanuts anyway.

So of the big money spent, I really only have question marks over Borini and Alberto.

That said, we've not really spent big cash on a player under Rodgers. I want big (15 million) type signings at CB, CM and AM. That'll be the true test of Rodgers' ability in the transfer market.

Using the Suarez money will show our ambition. I'm confident that we'll get at least 3 first team players in.

I think our strong pursuit of Mkh shows we're in for the right kind of player, as does our pursuit of Papadopolous, which I really hope picks up again.

As mentioned, the verdict is still out on a third of the listed signings (Toure, Aspas, Alberto, Mignolet). One was a loan signing (Sahin) which failed to impress as (quickly as) expected but was no doubt a talented player. Another was meant to be a signing for the future (Yesil). I think we're all in agreement on the sucess of Sturridge and Coutinho. Both Borini and Allen had their fair share of injury problems and its easy to forget they are still below 23 and had limited top flight experience (until the season prior to them joining us). Assaidi was like a wild card signing whose cost was equivalent to the annual wages of the likes of Joe Cole and a portion of his fee would probably be recouped from his future sale.

The fact that 2 of the best signings from this lot were signed after the scouting staffs and recruitment committee was put in place should also offer some optimism.

Are we really confident the Suarez money will be spent well? I'm not. And Im not convinced we wont get the 'here come Liverpool after selling Suarez for 50 million so lets add on 10 million' response from clubs either.

If Suarez goes for £50 million then yes, we could buy someone in the £25-£30 million bracket, I reckon. And we'd fucking need to. Sadly how many players worth that will come to a team not in Europe and finishing outside the top 4 regularly?

Its all well and good getting 50 mill + for Suarez. But I'd rather get 40 mill from Real or Bayern tbh.
Selling to a direct rival for 4th place. Yeah, I know we were 7th last season but thats not where we want to be.
Strengthening a rival is beyond stupid and worth much more than the extra 10 mill. Getting CL footy could be 40 mill in added income.

Will we spend this summer? Yes, I belive so but we're running out of quality targets imho. Soldado for 25 mill, Bernard for 23 mill, Yilmaz for 20 mill etc etc.
The transfer market is horrible these days with inflated prizes. Rodgers has a good track record so far imho and we're targeting the correct players quality wise. But replacing Suarez and getting that 100% right is difficult.

I think we probably shot a sizeable chunk of borrowed money at Christmas subsequently failed to make the champions league.... I doubt we will be buying anybody without selling Suarez.

Net spend 2012/13: 40 mill

Net spend 2011/12: 35 mill

Why does anyone think we wont spend in this window?

Confident it will be available. What if Rodgers sees aspas as the replacement?
