Three things stick out
* Odd game to give Moreno his debut
* The difference between a team wanting to be the champion and the champions ... They made everything count, we didn't. Harsh scoreline, but better team won.
* Give the team 1-2 months, and the Uruguayan hole we're seeing now won't be nearly as evident.

Some promise but the problem again is the defense. We get picked apart too easliy. It's easy to point fingers at a kid making his debut (who I thought did ok, aside from the goal), but the system is the only constant and we've pissed goals since Rodgers came here, regardless of personnel.

We need a rethink or Rodgers needs to bite the bullet and bring in a defensive coach he can work with.

- moreno had a good debut overall.
- johnson injury is great news.
- markovic looked decent
- gerrard isn't up to it

Ha. Nasri was talking in the post-match interview.
Said "big four" was Chelsea, City, Liverpool and Arsenal.

Thought we played well bar the defensive errors. City with 7 shots all game. But 4 on target and 3 goals is just a pisstake.

The night was marred by injuries. Skrtel looked okay, Johnson will be out for weeks (maybe a good thing) and Moreno could miss the Spurs game.

You could see we had 2 new defenders in our back 4. Shame this game comes so early in terms of getting our players bedded in.
Moreno was good, Lovren was good and Markovic looked really promising. Will take a while before everyone gels mind.

Shite result but after Johnson went off injured it was just ridiculous.

yeah early days but they still look a level above us , a much more mature team .

like i touched on in the match thread they are just so much more powerful than us .

spurs game is massive now because like it or not the amount we've spent brings pressure and the vultures will be circling at the earliest sign of trouble .

Last season we didn't get pummeled. That's the difference. I counted on a loss but not like that.

We didnt now either. The scoreline doesnt tell the whole story. Neither will this game define our season.
Spurs game will be tough though. We need to get going again and they look decent so far.

It's a bit absurd that our top earners are the players who often leave the most to be desired on the pitch.

It's not surprising they look like a mature team by comparison though, they have older players who are more experienced at the highest level and it's still more or less the same side that won the league three years ago. Continuity goes a long way.

You're doing it again ... We didn't get 'pummeled' - the scoreline doesn't reflect that both teams were actually pretty evenly matched. They - as I said - are champions for a reason and don't miss opportunities ... We missed all of ours too.

Not a great game that. Defensive errors costing us as usual, not teams being great, but us not doing the basics.
Final 3rd was really poor today, seemed really dysfunctional, Sturridge seemed isolated.
Not great games for johnson, gerrard, allen. I thought upto his cockup Moreno had looked pretty good.

I thought we played pretty well until the first goal.

Johnson was brain dead. Moreno looked promising apart from that dozy error.

Lovren was mostly excellent. He's going to be a huge player for us.

Gerrard reverted to his old style of captaincy - in other words, non-captaincy.

Allen was very good, full of fight and good sense.

Coutinho has been here for long enough to start showing his real potential. It's fine dazzling against the weakest teams in the league, but he really has to step up now and domiinate games like these.

Sturridge looked to me disinclined to battle for tight chances and the City defenders looked as though they'd planned to bully him (and they did so).

It's frustrating that we showed last season we can pass the ball, and yet instead of holding on to it, dictating the pace and waiting for openings, time and again we threw the ball away by trying to play impossible one-twos in the penalty arc.

Markovic gave glimpses of exciting promise (but I could have done without him having a laugh with City players after the final whistle).

Our defence was a fucking shambles. They looked dangerous every time they attacked. We on the other looked fucking toothless especially in the first half.
Oh and fucking Moreno.

What about Moreno? He made a mistake on his debut in a new league and a new team, he looked promising for the most part, is he your new pet hate then?

If I remember correctly, Coutinho mainly scored and created goals against the top teams last season.
