I suspect Torres' agent was dripping poison in his ear at the time because he sniffed the possibility of a big money move for Torres/big commission for him, and Torres' head duly got turned, but deep down I don't think he really wanted to go - it was written all over him when we played them a few days after the signing. He basically knew he'd made a desperate mistake the minute he put pen to paper, and has never recovered from that. If he came back I actually suspect he'd do quite well, but it's too late for that now.

You're a desperate romantic Jules.
His commitment for 4 months before the transfer was dire. Deep down, and on the surface, he wanted out. His coach was gone, Liverpool had gone down hill and Hodgeson was in charge (Kenny only came in a couple of weeks prior to his departure I think?).

It's quite true that his attitude stank for a fair while before he actually went, and it's certainly possible that those things you mention could have accounted for that. However, the way he looked in those first few days as a Chelsea player was very, very striking - the mirror opposite of what one would expect if he'd just been liberated from a situation he wanted to escape, as was his ongoing form after that, which is why I have a hunch about his agent having been at the bottom of things initially.
