Its hard not to like the attitude Adam showed over the summer by pushing himself to become fitter. It bodes well for him and us.

I'm looking forward to seeing him play.
I was going to mention that myself. Fair play to him. Does look a few pies slimmer too
I'd never heard of him before his Championship days but it looks like when he went to Blackpool the penny dropped for whatever reason. He obviously realises the opportunity the last two seasons have given him and he looks like he eants to make the most of it. He could prove to be the shrewdest signing of the summer when all is said and don.

I'd have Jan infront of Xabi anyday, like Wiz said though, only just. It's daft comparing anyway, there's so many different conditions and styles involved, you can see why there are comparisons between the three though, they're a rare breed and we're blessed to have had players like that in the team.

adam has a job on his hands securing and keeping his place in the team. if miereles and aqua and still here come the start of the season it's a 3 way fight between the three of them and that not even taking gerrard into account (I think injuries will see gerrard in and out of the side).

It depends on what Kenny's got in mind Neil, he might have already earmarked what system he wants to play and who the 'shoe-ins' are, I don't think it's easy to make assumptions about who will do what and play where, although we've all got a rough idea.

I dont see him being anything other than a first team regular, regardless of who is still here in 6 weeks time.

was molby better than alonso?
In my mind he was
This.

Five of Charlie Adam's eight assists in the Premier League last season came from crosses.

29.6% - Charlie Adam's shots-to-goals conversion rate after the close of the January transfer window, compared to 7.7% Aug-Jan.

Charlie Adam scored more penalties than any other PL player last term (7) & also netted twice from direct FK's.

Yep. Kenny went for him in January and again this summer. He must have big plans for him.

I'm very happy with this and a fair fee in the end. As someone has said before he could be a Gary Mac from 10 years ago to this side.

except with the potential to play for another 10 years!
I'd add Lucas as well. I think Adam can do a decent job in that defensive role.

We really need to shy away from this mentality though; of placing players in positions where they are decent.

Need to get players who are quality in their own position, not look at who can do a job.

Adam probably could do a decent job defensively, but that's not what he's good at.

I'm not sure of the value of any comparison between Molby and Alonso. Xabi's style of play is very different from Molby's. He is a good deal more mobile than Jan ever was, for starters. 🙂

Molby was unique really. Can't think of another 16 stone footballers who could be the best player on the pitch. Maybe a fat Gazza.

Rumour has it Molby learned to pass so well so he didn't have to do so much running around.

That was his secret . . . . . and being so chunky, it was impossible to knock him off the ball. ;D

Based on what? I've said it before, but Charlie Adam is practically allergic to defending. I lost track of the number of times Adam just let his runner go and left his defence exposed last year. And he's hardly a monster in the tackle either. He's been good from a creative perspective, but a defensive midfielder he is not. Far from it.

He did often let his man go but was that because he was lazy and a bit fat or because he was their only attacking outlet and needed to stay up the pitch a bit.

The Gary Mac comparison is about the best TBH, he offers a lot of the same attributes.

I was referring to the deep role. Why not? He could do a job in home games against bottom teams.

You said "defensive role" and Del correctly pointed out that Adam is rather notorious for being shit at defending. Now you're just managing to make yourself look even more stupid by suggesting that we play one of our best passers deep in games we will dominate.

Now how is that stupid? How can you mention deep role and best passers and not think of Alonso?
Isn't that who he is supposed to replace?

yeah i can see modos thinking behind it, if we're playing a team who arnt particularly devastating in attack then it might work having adam spray balls out to all our attacking midfielders

That's exactly what I meant and that is also the thing I think Adam is best at, distribution. Come deep, pick up the ball from the defenders/ goalkeeper and start the play.
That's not a defensive role though, is it?

Aren't you making yourself look like a tit now?
