It will change based on who we are playing. It's not simply a case of "pick two".
Exactly, we will have a fluid set up similar to United. I doubt any single United midfielder played more than 30 league matches last season. They had Anderson, Carrick, Scholes, Giggs, Valencia, Nani, Park and Fletcher and Ferguson rotated them depending on the opposition/injuries/tiredness. This system works (i.e. the players will accept it) as long as the team is succesful - however if results start going against us then it will become harder for Kenny to keep everyone happy.
you can list the depth of manu's midfield but certain players play more often than others.
No Neil, the 8 United midfielders that I mentioned all started EXACTLY 24 games each!
okay, I stand corrected. hopefully kenny can rotate our sea of midfielders and keep them all happy.

Fuck me. All this arguing about his role. Does no-one else listen to Kenny?

He doesn't agree with the concept of defensive midfielders & attacking midfielders, just midfielders who can do the lot.
I like the idea of that but when did kenny say or demonstrate that?

Does this constitute the whoosh of all whooshes (or is that Sunny's for life).

Strangely I don't log kennys quotes, but I definitely read it as attributed to him earlier in the season. Me & a few colleagues read it & were discussing it.

obviously a change in philosophy, wasn't kenny's 1988 vintage;
barnes (a left midfielder)
mcmahon (an attacking midfielder)
whelan (a holding midfielder)
houghton (a right midfielder)

doing away with a dedicated holding midfielder is something I would like to see though.

The tweets:

Tony Barrett - The Times: Interviewed Charlie Adam in May and he came across as a really good, down to earth lad. He'll be a success at Liverpool.

Dominic Byrne - radio personality: Great news about finally signing Charlie Adam!! Can't wait for the start of the season.....

Joey Barton - Newcastle United: Good signing by Liverpool of @Charlie26Adam, great passing range and set-pieces. The Big AC should thrive on them. Gd luck

Tony Evans - The Times: Kenny's a man who knows what he wants. He wanted Adam bad. And he makes players and teams better.

The Kop Magazine - fanzine: Can we be 1st to suggest 'Adam Adam, Adam Adam, Adam Adam Adam, Charlie!' to the old Hamann chant.

Kristian Walsh - Liverpoolfc.tv's official columnist: It's worth £9million just to get Steven Gerrard off corners. Much more useful with his head or lurking on edge of the box.

Ollie Holt - Daily Mirror: Charlie Adam is a great signing for Liverpool. Brilliant left foot, terrific crosser of the ball and fine passer. He'll improve the side.

Ian McGarry - presenter on Radio5live: LFC finally agree deal for Charlie Adam. Six weeks after terms agreed with player. Good signing by KD. Worth ten goals a season in PL.

Robbie Savage - Five Live: @Charlie26Adam congratulations Charlie you were outstanding in a relegated team !! Hope you do well !

Paul Dalglish - The King's son: Charlie26Adam is a great lad and I can't wait to see his wand of a left peg zinging passes around Anfield.

You place far too much emphasis on position names.
only because it's easier to give people roles, width from the wide midfielders, protection from the holding midfielder, creativity from the attacking midfielder. obviously in an ideal world they would all protect and create but specialists will do the role better.
for example, if you paired meireles and gerrard together going fowards as a unit they would be very effective but going back the other way would we get over run in midfield? would gerrard and lucas be a better combination, whilst losing some forward momentum you would gain a bit more solidity going the other.

I'm pretty excited to see how kenny uses our midfield this season.

Excellent tweet there from Kristian Walsh on Adam allowing us to take Stevie G off corner-taking duties and get him in the box where he can really cause some grief.

Yeah, the thought had crossed my mind, with Ming and possibly Downing too, there should be no reason to have Gerrard taking them.

Haha.

Spearing's No.20 now.

Darby's gone on loan to Rochdale for the season, so the rumour of him being part of the Adams deal must be wrong.
Henderson will be no.14, Adam 26, spearing 20, and Maxi will be 11
So Jovanovic's been stripped of his number already, he's definitely off then. Could Maxi be set to stay?
I couldn't be fucked. Besides I'm leading the capitals usage trend around here, so thought I'd follow on with that.
I think Ryan that you know that I've been following Adam for much longer than last season with Blackpool. I've rated him since he was a boy.

I think he's going to be a smashing player for us.

Quite simply, Barry Ferguson's reputation proved insurmountable. He was also frozen out because whenever Barry Ferguson and most senior players at the club hated Paul Le Guen, Adam was going great guns, and he was being given much more of key role. He wasn't really forgiven for that and his card was marked. As for the price, he didn't have long on his contract and Rangers always undervalue home grown players, ludicrously so. Walter Smith didn't rate him. He was much too flash for Walter, who prefers steady eddies in the middle.

To all the people doing my fucking head in about where all these midfielders are going to fit into 4 positions.

1 - It's possible we might not play the same midfielders every week. Mental I know but it could happen.
2 - Valencia, Nani, Park, Scholes, Carrick, Anderson, Gibson, Giggs, Fletcher, Hargreaves. United win leagues, we finish 6th. (and they just bought Ashley Young).

The role of Dalglish in securing the signature of his fellow Scot cannot be underestimated. He identified Adam very early on as a player he wanted and even drove the midfielder into the club's Melwood training ground for his medical on Thursday. Dalglish's influence was marked when he took charge in January, turning performances and results around, and that did not go unnoticed by Adam.

Barry Ferguson is/was an utter waste of time. Chump.
This is shit.

He may be a bit of a cock, but he's always been a good footballer.

Maxi #11 is a bit shit.
Why is it ?

Because it suggests he's quite high up the pecking order and, while most of us seem happy with him as a squaddie, we need better as first choices.
