Champions League Predictions?

I honestly have NO clue how Manure came out of that with a win. Bar 25 minutes in the 2nd half, they were played off the park.

Same old story.. people keep on saying they're shit.. or they're not the same as last year.. or that they have an average team.. or the likes Scholes and Giggs are well past it.. but yet, they keep on winning.. and winning.

Why is that?

How were United played off the park?

Most of Milan's opportunities came from United mistakes, which they then proceeded to squander. It's not like they were playing brilliantly either.

They weren't played off the park - not by a long shot.

I didn't think either team was impressive at all; Milan actually looked the more solid but couldn't deal with the attacking moments that the mancs put together. Bloody Rooney could still take them to a double - he's playing that well.

Belief, a bone-deep knowledge that they're winners and that everything will come right in the end. It's impossible to overstate how important that is. Shanks knew, and established it within LFC, and our glory years grew out of that. It's not for nothing that Ginsoak is a self-confessed admirer of the great man and his methods.

The worst thing is, the ref was in his right to disallow Stokes goal. Shawcross put his hand on Givens shoulder. Stupid if you ask me, I think he would have beaten him if he hadnt raised his arm.

The red card is another matter, jeezees.
Still, thats 2 points dropped for City. And against 10 men.

Watched the Lyon-Real game - not bad. Lyon defended and countered very cleverly, while Real still looked like a bunch of superstars too egotistical to play as a team. I'd expect Real to dig out a victory at home, but there's no way they'll win the CL this year.

A few things:

- That's why Carrick doesn't play for England. Good teams, actually good players, can play around him at ease. Far too many times in that first half a few Milan players formed neat triangles around him in the middle of the pitch and got into the space between him and the back four. Hargreaves and Barry aren't as good on the ball as him, but they're much more assured.

- The difference between players that can play at the top level and those that can't - Rooney and Huntelaar. The latter is just not top class, he's not even close. Surely he touched the ball less often than anyone else on the ground? At that level, you've either got to find the ball, make a difference on thr scoresheet, or find yourself space. He did nothing, and was easily held by Evans and Ferdinand. Rooney on the other hand had a stinker, and still scored 2.

- If this wasn't a World Cup year, Shawcross would be in the England team.

Also;

Rooney 100% definitely meant to stamp on the right-back's head in the first half. As per suaul, he got away with it.

I'm talking to myself here, but anyway...

that's twice in big games (I think away to Chelsea was the other one) that United have played without someone on the left wing or left midfield. One up front, Nani on the right, and a dimaond in midfield. Interesting tactics from Ferguson that asks an awful lot of Evra.

Good spot and it's actually the case as Park was basically given a free role tonight.

I think Evra's one player capable of having that responsibility.
In my view he's the best left back in world football and United's 2nd best player.

Another thing from that game is Fletcher's performance, thought he was outstanding.

He's surely the most under-rated player about. He's not got one particularly great weapon but in his own way he has a big influence for United and seems to revel in the big games.

Unrecognisable to the feeble, mediocre player 4 or 5 years ago.

Btw not sure who's City's game in hand is against.

They go the Bridge saturday week though, hopefully Chelsea will do us a favour and get the 3 points.

Very positive that they only got a point tonight, are they starting to crack? 😀

He was marvellous. He's one of these players that never has a bad game either.

Although, the time he was gievn to pick Rooney out for the 3rd goal was outrageous.

Rooney is world class, so comparing the two is pointless.

However, Huntelaar did play ok. He struggled to get the ball but he should have scored (as should have Inzaghi tbh) and Rio/Evans didn't handle anyone easily ... I thought the United back 4 was (is?) their weakest link.

Bar Manure's goals (and Scholes' was pure fluke) , they didn't really ahve any threatening chances. I cannot remember Dida making a difficult save.

On the other hand, Van Der Sar was brilliant for Pirlo and Ronaldinho's shots. He should have also been made to make saves on HUntelaar & Pippo's chances. I just think that the United made the most of their chances while Milan squandered good chances.

That's Milan failing to take their chances and we all knew it'd come back to haunt them in this tie. It doesn't mean that they played Utd off the park though. They did a few years ago in Milan, but not this time.

Ok - I'll re-phrase, Milan was the better team for most of the game in my opinion and should have won.

Back to Fantasy Manager - how do you get Milan to be a better outfit next year?

For me, sign Lloris from Lyon, get Vidic from Manure and a midfielder to replace Pirlo (who I think will leave).

What did you think of Ambroisini? I didn't realize how good he was in the air ...

Agree about Lloris - he's very impressive. Good hands, brave, agile, and ice-cool: I've never seen him flap at anything.

Yah, he seems to be the best French keeper in some time ... And I'm sure lyon will sell for 10 mill - and when you're stuck with Dida, I think Milan would make a good investment here.

There's no chance of getting Lloris for 10 mill. Never.
He'll go for 20-25 mill easy. One of the best young keepers in the world +Aulas = mucho wonga.

Fabianski picks up a back pass and while the Arsenal lot are still having a mard-on, Porto take the free kick and score.

2-1.
