Carra in a bit of a spat with a UTD fan and his 14 Yr old daughter

I don't think he should lose his job, he didn't do it while performing his job nor representing his employer. Obviously he should know better. A suspension to show it's not acceptable behaviour would be enough.

Doesn’t work like that these days does it, in banking they used to call it “reputational risk”.
Sky will see the negative headlines and how it affects the “brand” and probably sack him, he can’t really argue it either.

He’s a fucking bellend, he should have thick skin, I was goaded by Mancs all day Saturday and I managed to get through my day without spitting/hitting/shooting someone.

It's a horrible word. Like a get out of jail free card for bullying.

The act of "banter" is nothing new, or different. If it's using OTT abusive language to make a comedic point or be rude or whatever, then it isn't anything that hasn't been done on these forums and elsewhere forever.

My problem with the word "banter" (and its stunted idiot brother "bantz") is that anyone who uses the word, or professes to be an expert in it, or enjoy it, should be immediately murdered.

They won't sack him. Kirsty Gallagher was recently done for drink driving and she's still there.
All though drink driving is a more severe offence, it wasn't in the public interest.. Whilst he is the public eye, and there was children involved, I suspect Carra will get the book thrown at him... Literally.. Given the nature of what happened..

It is just not acceptable by any standards.. Sky will certainly want rid, and Liverpool themselves will probably distance themselves in having any association with the chump...

Way back.. He should earn his coaching badges and go into management..

He really has shown himself up here to be quite the hypocrite.. He quite rightly vilified Diouf for his spitting actions, only to be just as disgusting at it himself..

I'm not defending what he did, he shouldn't have done it, but, I wonder what happened before that clip, they could have been saying anything to him to wind him up, Hillsborough or anything. He still shouldn't have done it, but I don't think that clip shows the whole story.

I do.

Did anything in that audio suggest that, just prior to saying "2-1 Jamie!" in a fairly cheery voice, the driver and his 14 year old daughter were making Hillsborough jibes or whatever?

I'll save you the bother: Does it FUCK.

I'm loathed to join in with any daft conspiracies, but I think the point was you've only seen what was filmed. There's plenty of other stories doing the rounds that the guy had been goading him long before that clip. So yeah, it's easy to say something really derogatory to get someones back up and then film what you want to be seen.

Carragher said he was being wound up before that, he didn't say anything particularly disgusting was said though. So yeah, I doubt there was any Hillsborough jibes, but then I doubt that what is seen is the whole story.

People are so sneaky. Fair point then.

I thought I meant that. Now you've confused me and I don't know what I think anymore.

OH Jamie, look what you've done to this place!

What a studio thing to do, losing your head like that. The only saving grace is this was done his own time and not whilst at work

I don't think it affects the Sky brand more than drink driving. He's an idiot, but in the general scheme of things, it's a fairly minor offence. A suspension and then move on.

It does, because it's football related. If he got into a fracas over nothing in a pub or whatever, then it's aside from Sky (even though he arguably still has a public profile to maintain).

He's on Sky as the face of football punditry, to argue, debate and give an impartial viewpoint over football. He adds a bit of current social trend I guess with his banter to his ex-peers (Neville, Henry, etc), but that's where the dangerous grey area is, because it continues and exaggerates this perceived "us and them" mentality, which is fine in the context of the game and for the sheer entertainment value and good old fashioned banter, but this incident is an extension of that and it's overstepped the mark.

I can't see how it's not easily related to his job. So if he'd given it out on TV all afternoon to Gary Neville, taunting Mancs in the process, and then this happened what would the reaction be then? It would be exactly the same, because it's a continuation of the same stuff. As someone said earlier, he's always giving it out on Twitter, goading other players, so he should be able to just ignore it when someone does the same back. It's not the first time he's lost his shit when someone has give it back, he's done it on Twitter loads of times too.

I love Carragher, but he's been a fucking idiot here.

That’s the bit up for debate, the Sky woman who got caught drink driving was breathalysed the next day after a night out, said her bit and took the punishment. Carra has spat on a 14 year old girl (not intentionally as he’s saying he didn’t see her but that’s what the papers will say) who was a football fan over some abuse which we don’t know the extent of and has been caught on camera doing it. If they both worked for me, I’d have to sack Carra and give the woman a reprimand.

Is there anyone who is surprised by this?
I doubt it.

Shit pundit and I´m glad if he doensn´t get the chance to talk shit about Liverpool again.

He'll only be sacked if sky want rid imo.

The keys & gray thing was 'leaked' despite sky having had the clips for years, just as they were starting to change their approach to covering games from a more football orientated one. The new style being one of ex players being relegated to making occasional comments & actual smarmy presenters doing the rest of the nonsensical hyperbole surrounding it, & this included commentators talking about what the manager was wearing or how much jewellery the subs have on instead of talking about the actual match. Something that keys did but gray always ignored, preferring to talk about footy & tactics.

Those two didn't fit the new paradigm & that 'leak' saved sky a fucking fortune by getting shut of them.

They can get away with suspending him & keeping him off air & away from matches for a while & him doing charity work etc in the meantime, & that's exactly what I think they'll do.

The timing isn't awful, if he's suspended for a while we may not see him til next pre season by which point this will be more than old news.

That doesn't count - that's because you had your assistant (hi!!!) shoot a few people for you instead.

I didn't consider your Mossad history when considering your application, we need to talk, there's a few people I don't like...

I'm not so sure. Sky may not feel they have a choice. They certainly wouldn't want to lose him if it can be avoided, unlike the Gray/ Keys stitch-up.

Anyway, it won't bother me much one way or another, I like Carragher and would prefer him to carry on, but it's hardly that big a deal, I don't watch football for the pundits and commentary

He’s crap on tv. All the gobshite ex players are. The whole commentary teams are. They all need fucking off.

Meanwhile in Greece:

The Greek Superleague has been indefinitely suspended following the events in the Greek football league's game between PAOK Thessaloniki and AEK Athens, Deputy Sports Minister Giorgos Vassiliadis announced on Monday after a meeting with Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras.
The match between PAOK and AEK in Toumba on Sunday night was stopped mid-play without a result after a disputed goal at the 90th minute caused PAOK owner Ivan Savvidis to storm onto the pitch surrounded by body guards, and carrying what appeared to be a fire-arm in a holder.
