Cardiff Match Thread

We should treat Cardiff with the greatest of respect and field our strongest team or it could turn out like the Hull and So'ton games.

The TAW podcast mentioned an idea I think Brendan might do.

Resting Lucas & playing Alberto, with Allen playing the Lucas role & Alberto as furthest forwards.

I wouldn't do that. The midfield worked great against Spurs, I think they need to keep playing together as a unit. Besides, Lucas didn't start the last 2 games, last thing he needs is rest.

Go out and smash them early doors. Then sub Suarez, Lucas and who ever for City game.

Serious question, are footballers banned for eating Christmas dinner? They play a game the next day, and their diets are already very strict, and I always feel bloated like nobodies business after Christmas lunch.

Oh and yes, field the strongest team, only substitute if we have the game won, don't take any chances.

Will everyone be saying the same thing if we get an injury and have to bring someone on who hasn't played in a few weeks against City?

Yeah, obviously it'd be great if we could play the same team every week, but football doesn't work like that any more. You have to use the squad if you want to compete. I don't mean we should make whole sale changes, but we should at least make one change, and Rodgers seems to be doing a good job of making that one change for most games this season(he's bound to keep the same team this time isn't he?). Obviously it doesn't always work out, but it definitely doesn't work out in the long run to keep the same XI every game, no team can keep that going for the whole season any more, it just doesn't happen.

Pretty much. They usually have a small one with the family on the day or they all celebrate it on a different day. There's usually mention of it in an interview at this time of year.

The fact that we have been changing the team so frequently so far means we are fine to have a spell of 2-3 games of an unchanged line up to gain some momentum and I think that during one of our few spells of 3 games in a week is one of those, dependent on performances/ fitness.

Well the boss players we're gonna sign in Jan will allow us to give a couple of players a rest anyway

I would make some changes for this game:

1. Rest Johnson (who is going through a dip in form anyway) in favor of Kelly
2. Start Agger and Toure at CB.
3. If he is training well, consider giving a start to Aspas at the expense of either Coutinho or Sterling. He needs a chance to show if he deserves to stay beyond January.

Something like this:

-----------Suarez------------
Aspas--------------Sterling
---------Hendo--Allen------
--------------Lucas-----------
Boner-man-------------Kelly
--------Agger--Toure-------
------------Mignolet----------

What......make 20 changes to winning team?

I think that works if you have a good squad.

Else you are better off playing your strongest eleven when it's available and hoping no one gets injured, rather than playing useless fuckwits and hoping for a miracle.

I know what you're getting at, and you're right rotation is a huge part of the modern game, but for a team playing a game a week I would like to see the players who a) have got the job done in a recently brilliant way, and b) have match fitness. It's all well and good saying x player can fit in, but right now you're seeing the benefit to Sterling, Coutinho (after injury) and Flannigan for playing back to back games with their team-mates, giving that extra edge in sharpness and stamina. Besides, the average age at the mo is 24, I wouldn't be worried about this team exerting itself a bit.

Stick with the same team and we can win, for the first time 4 consecutive games in a row under Rodgers

Apparently Mackay has been told to resign or he will be sacked by the owner.

No doubt they'll beat us now...

The crazy owner sent him an email with the resign or get sacked ultimatum. He'll be gone before our game which isnt exactly positive for Cardiff.

Mackay to WBA then??

I like the fact that the guy supposedly filling in for the head of recruitment who got sacked is a mate of Tan's son on "work experience".

Hopefully there is quite a negative and confused atmosphere in the Cardiff dressing room at the moment and they step onto the pitch with their heads dropped.

The last thing we want to see is a group of players out there fighting for their manager or some shit.

We have only played a measly 18 games so far this season and everyone bar the odd exception has either been out injured, been suspended of been dropped/rested.

We should be very very fresh, we seem to of found a winning formula, why oh why would anyone want us to immediatly change it? it makes no sense, nor does the 'we might get an injury' line, we have had injuries anyway and thats with playing very few games this season, we will continue to get injuries, its just the way it is regardless of the amount of games we are playing.

The only reason why players should be getting dropped at this point is if they are out of form, Johnson is a candidate for that.

Reports that Malky Mackay absent from their press conference today. About to be sacked?

Why would he quit and loose out on a payment.

The chairmen is bonkers...

Yep, thick too.

The obvious thing to do would be have a private detective dig around & find some dirt, make it public & force a resignation, or sack using bring the club's reputation into disrepute as the reason.

He's a tool.

Hope he's gone before tomorrow. Dont want Cardiff showing up playing for their manager. I want them showing how much the manager will be missed.

It'd be great if that 23 year old on work experience takes over for the game. It'd be fucking hilarious.

Change nothing. Same team as last weekend. It's a no-brainer. If he wants to give Aspas a run, then bring him on later if we're winning comfortably. Don't start him.
