Bye bye Jude

I get that people are calling Klopp out for his pre-season comments on our midfield. But when he's given no money and has to work with these players, what's he going to say "they're shit and we have to make do". That's something Maureen would say, Klopp is better than that.

That is true but he didnt have to be overzealous in protecting them also.

So, If’n the chavs and the oil-soaked Mancs were deliberately driving up the fee, as is suspected, what next? I’ll wager “Bellingham will stay for one more season at least” at Dortmund reports will soon start to emerge.

It won't matter, we ain't going to have £150m to spend on him next year either. The club has spent the last 2 years bluffing about signing Bellingham, nobody else was good enough, we dont pursue 2nd tier targets etc Now their bluff has been called, you want him here's the price. Suddenly John Henry has lost his semi and it appears that not only are there other midfielders on the planet good enough to displace Henderson for less than £100m, one of them is our own right back. Imagine that!

Does anyone on here actually enjoy being a Liverpool fan? You all seem to be such a miserable bunch of fuckwits - maybe happy when we are winning, but even then pointing out doom lies around the corner, as miserable as fuck when things aren't good. How the hell have you survived the last 30 odd years?

Has it occurred to you that many of us are Liverpool fans BECAUSE we're miserable and never happy, not the other way around?

I've enjoyed this season more than last.

Now that is fucked up. I couldn't handle the constant stress. I needed a break. So did the team. We will all be having a long one.

We lost Mane, Origi, Minamino, Jota for half a season, Diaz for half a season. If he'd signed 2 midfielders and not forwards and we weren't scoring, people would be crying he hadn't signed a forward.

It’s the signing of Melo that fucks it all up.

We “could” have signed a midfielder pre-season, we had the money to sign Gakpo in January.

We “did” sign Melo on loan and he’s added precisely nothing - so we could have literally signed anyone and they wouldn’t have had less of an impact.

I’m not accepting the “hindsight” argument either - because he was fucked when we signed him.

That decision is the one that fucked us up most this season.

FSG receive majority of the blame from me. Followed by Klopp who steadfastly wanted "the right player".

I maintain Bellingham will be a generational talent. And it'll sting to see him pull on a city shirt next season.

Only the likes of Gavi or Wirtz will soften that sting.

There is something to this, the 2 titles we lost to City were dreadful to watch in terms of knowing that you had to win every single game every week and still wouldn't get past them.

There was more joy in that Alison last min winner against WBA to secure 4th than many of our more dominant displays. Pursuing a relentless City team sucked the joy out of it

I think he’ll be another Paul Pogba— hyped beyond all imagination.

That said, I still maintain, with precious little evidence of course except Klopp’s reeling off the names of the midfielders we had back in the summer, that we were genuinely blindsided by the drop off in the quality of our midfielders. Everyone, that is, except the data analysis guys.

If Bellingham stays for one more season he'll have 1 more year left on his contract - the fee wont be that high. My guess is that if he stays for one more season and extends his contract he'll get a release clause inserted. Most likely Dortmund will want to cash out this summer given the interest from City, Real and PSG and the possible insanely inflated fee. Its all on Jude.

It’s something I’m sceptical about. We still got shafted with the Ox.

£70 million seems mad for a player who you can get for no fee in 12 months.

One year left and worth £70 million? Next target please. I bet you he stays at the chavs, though.

Where do people stand on this?

At this point in time, if the choice was spend all money & budget on one player, or spend same amount (150m i'm guessing?!) across 3-4 players - which would you choose?

For me at this point I'd opt for the latter because so much of our team is on the cusp of breaking. We need to bolster at the back and also in the middle.

I am disappointed we went through 4 windows avoiding any purchases thinking this would happen, and it has cost us at least one of the two trophies we lost out on last season and what would probably be an easy Top 4 finish if we had midfield depth this season.

However, given where we are now, signing Jude and only Jude feels a massive risk. But there maybe having him in there, surrounded by a mix of experience (Fabs, Hendo, Thiago) and youth (Badger, Jones, Elliot, Morton) would work... and we'd have to hope none of our CBs or full backs got injured.

I think we can build a better team with the right investment in 3-4 players rather than 1 major signing on Jude. We will also be more competitive and have a greater chance of success imho.

It just feels really unnecessary to be out for the running for Jude. Squad management at its lowest these last few years.

If we end up spending £250 million it seems crazy to pull out provided Jude goes elsewhere. We should be able to get Jude plus 4 others with that.

If all we have this summer is £150m then it’s sensible to spread that round the squad buying a few £50m players and a free or two.

What's the consensus on Alexis Mac Allister, how does he compare to other options?

He's probably the pick of the mentioned 2nd choice mids for me, looked really good whenever I've seen him play, Brighton or World cup. But I know fuck all about other leagues and players like Thuram's kid

Klopp on Jude Bellingham: There's nothing to say about, to be honest. We don't speak about players we don't sign. Nothing to say about (it).

Klopp: I never understood why we constantly talk about things we theoretically can't have like six players in the summer for £100m (each). You have to realise what you can do then you have to work with it.

Klopp: If a 5-year-old child asks for a Ferrari for Christmas, you don't say 'good idea'. What we need and what we want, we try absolutely everything to get it. There are moments we have to accept this or that are not possible for us and step aside.

Hasnt he only answered questions about him and said he is a really good player but not our player?

Brodge did grin like a 5-year old when he got his Rolls Royce under the same owners. So I don't know what he's on about

He has shown his admiration of a player, which he never does, instead of giving a line like “He’s not one of my players so I don’t want to speak about him”. That would’ve made a lot more sense if he’s trying to say it now after speaking about him.

To be fair he's never been shy about singling martinelli out for praise.
