Looks like Downing is having a medical at Villa.

Robben's saying he's not ruling out a move this summer and his agent has had contact with Spurs.

I'd rather we spent £20 odd million on Robben then on Silva.

I wouldn't mind spending the Xabi money + 10m on both.

We'd have serious options across the front 4.

I might shoot myself in the head if we sell Alonso and get Robben in exchange, he would be a terrible signing.

I think you might be overreacting there Neets.

I disagree. Its about time we had one of the best wingers in football playing for us again.

Fact of the matter is we went into last season with 3 CMs and that was taking a chance. If alonso goes then we need at least 1 and as Madrids other inquiries have shown you are looking at 15-20m for a decent player. I can't see there being that much left over for forwards.

He's also a match winner, Anita. If he plays 25 games a season, he'd probably contribute towards us winning a fair amount of those.

I like him as a player and I can get past the fact he played for Chelsea and is a despicable person.
The only reason I do not want him at the club is that he is too brittle. Far too injury prone for the money he will cost in terms of a transfer and wages.

I hate the guy but you cant deny what a talent he is. He would be amazing. Thats doesnt mean we dont replace Xabi because we have to do that no matter what.

He's very inconsistent.
[/quote]

No he's not.

Mildly inconsistent and even then, when he's not misfiring he's giving any defender a very tough time.

agreed. Sorry but he is by far more of a threat then anything we have on the wings

I don't want him. I want Young, Silva or several others ahead of him.

He will be a bad buy, I'm sure of it. And he is inconsistent, he drifts in and out of games, he's weak and lacks fight.

Ashley young most of us would like but the chances of it happening are very LOW Anita. And it will take 25m to even have a chance

Plus he is a dickhead

Is right.

Reds- someone posted something earlier suggesting we were in for him.

So you don't want Robben due to inconsistancy but you DO want Young?

I suggest you look at Youngs statistics, Anita.

Robben is 10X the winger Young is and would cost significantly less, I'd imagine.

Like I've said Hardcastle, it's not just that. I think Robben has the wrong attitiude, I don't think he has the heart and determination that someone like Young would show.

He would play considerably less games than Young. That said, Young is still a rough diamond.

if we are in for him brilliant stuff but if were not im sorry but i wouldnt mind Robben

So happy that useless cunt Downing never made it over to us.

That is exactly the kind of signing that ruins my perfectly good summer.

We have 6 weeks left mate it can still be ruined

I too would prefer Young to Robben.

But there is little point in talking about consistency in wingers. The only thing consistant about them is their inconsistency

Robben has played 63 games in his two seasons at Madrid, granted it's not that good but 30+ games a season isn't too bad and in those games he has played he's been a quality player.

Young isn't even in the same league to him at the moment.

Robben is more of a match winner, or has more ability to win matches than Xabi. Wouldn't mind him on the cheap, but not for big bucks.

I'd say, when fit, Robben is one of the top 5 wingers in world football.

And he's only 25.

It'd be wise to remember the cunt we grew to hate at Chelsea was barely 20.
