Brewster's Millions..

I dunno. Maybe he'll be shite, Gomez will pick him up by his armpits, and they'll have a scrap at the England camp

Followed by months of fans saying Gomez is shite and needs to be replaced by some midget or other.

Well, I have a theory. Brewster and Lovren both binned due to a massive embarrassing dance effort post Barca 2018. Moves like that it was only a matter of time. Check 13mins for proof. I'm only messing. Good luck to the kid.

Definitely Edwards master class again but I think the Klopp brand is rubbing off on our transfers too.

Don't get me wrong Brewster is a legit talent and I wouldn't be surprised if we did exercise the buyback but I think in some way the majesty of Klopp means we are enjoying the "Apple effect" when it comes to transfer.

"Oh he's been developed and raised under Kloop?, "Well, its got to be good then!" And then just like Apple phones, they get home and then realize they could have gotten similar for a lot cheaper.

But just like a new iPhone release they keep come back every year. Next year we sell Van Den Berg for 30m to Brentford.

Not really when he’s played zero minutes in the league and has spent a fair chunk of Klopps time here nowhere him.

This always infuriated with Utd during Fergusons time, every summer they would sell off a couple of players that couldnt make the grade and the likes of Everton and Sunderland would be lining up with their wallets open and their trousers round their ankles ready to waste their annual transfer budget on championship level players.

Its a smart move. A year of no football with us or a poor loan spell would have destroyed his value.

If he turns out great we can buy him back, but if he doesn't we've sold a 20 year old kid with no top level experience for an outrageous fee. And that no doubt helped make the team better right now with the addition of Jota.

Those were the two options, were they, m'lud? What about a good loan spell, like his last one?

Well I don't have the data to support this , I suspect Edwards does, but the chances of a loan spell being good seem way less than it being unproductive and lessening value.

Add in that Brewster and the other kid that went to Wolves were unlikely to contribute much to the first team this season , moving them on to finance Jota makes even more sense. Particularly, since it Brewster does live up to the hype we can buy him back.

Another loan spell doesn't help us win now, and only seems to have downside risk.

(In the event we do re-sign him) £16.5m for an improved (English, homegrown) player who has gained (top flight and/or regular football) experience and will be reaching his prime doesn't sound too bad? Will the 15% sell on fee come into equation too? If so, then that's £6m cheaper.

What about him, in all of this. Sheffield desperately need a striker. If they get this risky decision wrong, they could go down. They picked a promising young talent who is quite unproven, for their number one transfer priority. He'll play all the time, and if he is even remotely successful, because he's young and british, he will be worth 40 mil by the end of the year. His stature as a player and in the media will rise dramatically. They already have, vs a loan.

Klopp has said in the past it’s about what is best for the club and the players. This move is best for all parties.

Even though it's the opposite of what Klopp planned for Brewster a couple of years ago? Do you believe what advertisements tell you, too? The idea this is the result of some long-thought-out strategy and has come about through careful and considered calculation rather than just the short term need to pay for recent signings is just patronising claptrap.

Plans change. Priorities change. Strategies change. We would all have liked him to be involved in the first team where possible this year. When you have to get through our front 3 plus Jota and even Origi then you have to think how many minutes he will play. We got a great deal of cash for him. Loaning him out may have diminished that value. It’s a gamble because it could just as easily go up.

He’s going out and will probably be the main man at Sheffield United and will most likely be on a hell of a lot more money.

If he turns out proper boss we get him back at what will be a discount or get paid again for it.

I don’t understand why you are getting all hysterical over this.

I thought it was £30m buyback?

Those cheeky bastards at Palace tried to insert a buyback clause of £50m.

We sold him because we needed to fund new signings and couldn't shift the ones who were genuinely surplus to requirements.

I'm not going to celebrate us having to flog one of the most promising youngsters we've had in years just so we could do standard squad maintenance.

I'm not sure 'celebrate' is what's actually happening in this thread. In fact it's more the exact opposite.

Well that's cos from the outside looking in it totally is. Has anyone who's never played any top league minutes gone for anything like this amount of dough? Wouldnt be surprised if City had bought some shite defender from ligue 2 for thirty million but I can't think of anyone.

I don't know why it has to be one or the other.

The deal isn't much different to a loan if he is keen on returning at some stage. We would always have to change our system to accommodate Brewster and that is not going to happen if he becomes an average PL striker. He would have to become sensational for us to really consider adapting our game to accommodate him. That level of progression is much more likely to take place when he's settled and getting consistent playing time in the league. I genuinely think it's win/win for us and a smart deal all round.

Obviously I'd rather Grujic and Wilson were shifted too, but that doesn't change or undermine the logic in Brewsters transfer.

Sessegnon went to Spurs for £25m last year.

Jude Bellingham went to Dortmund for about £20m, and he's 17.

£23m for Brewster looks about market value to me.

Remember Sessegnon now because everyone on here was going on about him. Did he get injured or something?
