This would be a blow but at the same time how many players have truly come through from the youth team in recent yrs ? And even then the ones that do were usually the ones who showed alot of promise at other clubs and were bought . I'm sure there are others who can do the job .
Their work will only become apparent in the next 5 years really, though.
That's the point of the youth setup. Long term.
It's unfortunate as they were also working very well with Rodgers too.

These guys have revolutionised our youth set up. Borrell seemed to be really settled, and was developing a real footballing identity among the youth teams. He apparently rebuffed an attempt by Barca to bring him back not that long ago. This would be very strange.
Aside from the fact that our youth sides and reserve team have clearly been on the up for a few years now, I see no evidence either.

I know you think people don't matter Rosco, but to those of us who don't share your pathology, and who have followed how these guys have created an exceptional culture at youth level, and helped knit the academy to Melwood, they have been terrific.
While signs are there (looking from the outside in at least) that our youth set up is much better, our team is hardly flooding with it's offspring, so I do share your cynicism, yet I still hope this isn't true.
How many teams are though? When a side like ours is flooded with investment, it's harder for players to break through than at other clubs. I don't see many making the grade at City or Chelsea.

How do you know this ?
Have you been to the academy ?
I ask because the one member on here who has been to the academy didn't think a whole lot of it.
So the opinion of one member who's visited the academy, outweighs visible improvement?
It outweighs puff pieces in the media talking about how rosy everything is.
What visible improvement ?
What have the youth teams done ? Didn't we win the FA Cup a couple of times in the years when our academy was viewed as awful by the majority ? But nothing since, now that everyone loves whatever is going on ?

Nope.
But Borrell and McParland massively improved on the reserve league winning team in 2010, since then the reserves have won ...... ? Nothing ?
The fan perception about the academy is all over the fucking place - under Houllier it ran into the ground, yet in 06 and 07 we won trophies, now we have these miracle workers not able to produce any results ?
I'm totally confused.
I wonder what's the reasoning behind this ...
