Borrell and McParland sacked?

This is devastating. I was always comfortable knowing our future was in the capable hands of Rodolfo Borrell.
I will follow suit and blame you for this. Screw you, Modo! Why the fuck do you always have to have an agenda!

IMHO the main problem is we're just not finding enough really good young talents. I don't think there's much wrong - and there's plenty that's right - with what we do with the kids we've got. If you have an academy where there are only a few really good prospects, then it's not a coaching problem that only a few of them graduate to the first team squad.

@M_Sweeting: Apparently there will be an announcement about Borrell soon (not from LFC) about his new job which is expected to be in the USA.

So, some are saying he was on the way out regardless, we pushed first it seems.
A few rumours about gross misconduct with them negotiating contracts with another club without Liverpool knowing about it.

I don't follow the reserves and youth team so its pure paper talk from my point of view. A quick look at the reserves and academy team:

Sterling - QPR
Ibe - Wycombe
Chirivella - Valencia
Canos - Barcelona
Teixeira - Sporting Lisbon
Yesil - Leverkusen
Ngoo - Southend
Wisdom - Bradford
Jones - Plymouth
Ojo - MK Dons
McLaughlin - Glenavon
Adorjan, Polgar - MTK Budapest
Sama - Borussia Dortmund
Ward - Wrexham
Suso - Cadiz
Trickett-Smith - Crewe
Sokolik - Banik Ostrava
Mersin - Millwall
Sinclair - West Brom

Flanagan, Robinson - were their promotion to 1st team more out of necessity or ability? Coady, Morgan's progress?

Don't get me wrong. There's no doubting that Borrell is a great coach and big loss. It's ridiculous to solely expect academy graduates to make the grade too. Just wondering if part of the reason for the rosy picture on the youth front is because of the money spent (and increased/improved overseas scouting)?

Rodgers have youth coaching background so while I'm disappointed to see Borrell leave, I'm optimistic too that we'll continue the progress on youth and academy front.

The likes of Frank Arnesen had huge reputation but didn't necessarily work out. On the other hand, how many have heard of Matt Crocker (Southampton's Academy Manager), just to name an example?

Alex Inglethorpe

[article]“There is so much history and tradition here and local players have always been a cornerstone of Liverpool’s success. They’ve been the lifeblood of the club,” he said.

“I recognise there’s still room for a Raheem and the club have done well recruiting the best young talent. That side of it is very healthy but it’s vital we bring through home-grown players.

“They are the ones supporters identify with the most. Those who come through the ranks and devote their career to one club are the ones who are afforded the legendary status.

“My job is to develop players to have a career here and I would happily come bottom of the reserve league if we sent the next Steven Gerrard to Melwood.[/article]
[article]“My background is at a club where everything was focused on local talent,” he said. “At Tottenham, it wasn’t about buying players. It was about getting boys for nothing from within 40 minutes of the training ground, trying to develop them and provide a pathway to the first team.

“Fortunately, that philosophy came through and there are lots of players from that group who have had Premier League starts and will go on to have significant careers.”[/article]

Neil Critchley
[article]Critchley was headhunted by manager Brendan Rodgers to play a leading role in the mission to ensure the conveyor belt of talent at the Kirkby Academy keeps rolling.

Nationally, the figures are grim – just 32% of players used by Premier League clubs last season were English.

That has prompted new Football Association chairman Greg Dyke to launch a commission to come up with a plan to combat the dwindling pool of home-grown players in the top flight.

“I’ve seen a lot of youth football over the years and I think this country does still develop a lot of good players,” Critchley said.

“They just maybe miss that window of opportunity at 18 to 22 where they don’t get an opportunity to play games and can get a bit lost.[/article]

Rodgers speaking this afternoon at the presser: 'I was academy director at Reading so I understand all facets of youth development'. 'Academies should get the players through by 20, 21. That's why so much has been invested in this academy'. That's all he said and the hacks didn't even mention Borrell or McParland, presumably due to prior warnings rather than just incompetence.

Doesn't look like a lot of scousers in there

This is disappointing. Rogers isn;t good enough or experienced enough to be dictating youth policy. But if they were on their way away, fair enough.

TBH I'm slightly surprised Borrell stayed as long as he has. I'd have expected him to be pretty close on Rafa's heels out of the door.

I'm everything that's bad with this club.

How long has Lucas had his cock shoved up Modo's arse for? Must be a love hate relationship.

Supposedly Man City according to rumours. Ah, rumours - the lifeblood of the internet. Come let us feast upon their filthy sustenance.

Twitter is brilliant. A whole day of people asking what's happened. Incredibly informative.

(Now there's a rumour Kenny will be the new academy head.)

In all seriousness this seems like a pretty rash decision.
But I'd like to hear the reasons why before I say anything else.

Borrell has done a pretty decent job, imo.

right just finished for the day, got in at 7 got told we had a meeting at 8:30 with Phil Roscoe and Alex. In the meeting we were told that both Frank and Borrell had been let go on wednesday and we were told for the next few weeks while Rodgers and the other management sorts out replacements we're going to be sharing extended duties. Whats I thought was crazy is that they (or Frank) will STILL be coming in and helping with his own phasing out but were not to interact with him.. There were one or two coaches that put in complaints and protests in the meeting but im sure others put in complaints throughout the day.. the big dogs are all in a fucking mood though as a result, i get the vibe that they arent happy with the decision or with the extra workload dumped on them and on top of it they have everybody moaning at them about the extra work
as crazy as this may sound....I feel like this is Brendan making a power play, Frank and Borrell have largely agreed with BR's input but they have always maintained control of the academy and players and influenced their development to their own accord and to be fair have had good success. BR is a very smart manager but wants and needs to control everything to get exactly what he wants (in a good way) I feel that there have been a few times when Frank and Borrell have fought with him on ideas and this sacking now allows him to bring more of his own people in and take the academy and player development in the direction he wants.

Poor Ross must be extremely worried about another megalomaniac manager gradually exerting control over the club.

This is brilliant from a psychological point of view. The owners lost a bit of authority after having to bow down and kiss the feet of Suarez all summer.

If it's true they found out these guys were looking for alternative employment, that's impressive in itself and demonstrates they are keeping CIA level tabs on everyone. Then to just summarily dismiss them without hesitation is awesome stuff.

I thought they gained authority in the summer by telling Suarez he wasn't going anywhere.

Not when everyone can plainly see we were just desperate to keep our second best player. Enforcing a contract on its own is a sign of strength, but when the player insults you and pisses over your stature and history, then continuing to enforce the contract means only one thing.... you are that player's bitch.
