Borini . . . . .

Borini just isn't the right fit for us. He's just too wasteful. His passing and ball-control is dire.
Looks like Bambi on ice at times.

Indeed. It's still early days and they could yet win the league but I am enjoying watching Mourinho not get it all his own way this time round.

Yea, aside from us doing so well it has been one of the many enjoyable sideshows this season. I wonder is Roman going to throw big time cash his way anytime soon or is he fully insistent on sticking to a budget.

Hes clearly hinting that he wants a new striker, has been doing it for quite a while.

Yeah, the other day he was going on about none of his strikers being "killers". All rather odd when you consider that he signed Eto'o and loaned out Lukaku.

I guess it will cease to be amusing when they actually get round to spending yet another 50M on someone like Falcao.

I like Borini. Even if we can keep Suarez, he can still get minutes if he stays because Sturridge doesn't seem to be able to stay healthy for a full season. The question is whether he can play as Suarez's partner like Sturridge can. I remember during Kenny's caretaker season, Kuyt being used effectively with Suarez, and I happen to think Borini has a similar game to Kuyt, so I'm hopeful that he'll make it here. Plus, he has a boss goal celebration.

It definitely feels like Suarez plays better when he has a partner in the attack, be it Sturridge, or depending on the day Gerrard/Coutinho/Hendo(As was the case against Spurs I feel). I see no reason why Borini can't be our third striker, especially considering Aspas is a more versatile type. Absolutely no reason to let go of him either, he can only gain value from this summer after all.

Would love to see him on the World Cup squad though, and with some more good performances, I think he can get a spot.

I don't think he had enough playing time for Liverpool for us to make up our minds about Borini.

José Mourinho is threatening a major tactical rethink at Chelseafollowing their Capital One Cup defeat at Sunderland.
It was a familiar story for Chelsea as they dominated for long periods but failed to translate possession into goals before losing 2-1 after extra time.
Mourinho is considering a more pragmatic approach, with an emphasis on defence which may not sit well with the owner Roman Abramovich's desire to witness attacking flair in his side.
Mourinho said: "We are going in one direction and the right direction but it is quite frustrating. Football is about getting results and it's quite frustrating as we may have to take a step back in order to be more consistent at the back.
"It's something I don't want to do, to play more counterattacking, but I'm giving it serious thought. If I want to win 1-0 I think I can as I think it is one of the easiest things in football. It is not so difficult, as you don't give players the chance to express themselves."
Chelsea were two minutes away from victory in normal time. They led through an own goal by Lee Cattermole and wasted further chances, with Samuel Eto'o the main culprit, before Fabio Borini equalised. Ki Sung-yueng scored Sunderland's winner in the 118th minute.
Mourinho said: "We had chances and chances and chances but not enough goals. Maybe the way to rectify it is not to concede as many goals. We lose goals and the opponents come alive. We scored against Sunderland and afterwards we had two or three more chances. If we had scored then, goodbye, but we kept the opponents alive.
"Once more the quality of football we produced was amazing. What we do when we have possession of the ball, the way we play, the way we create, the story repeats. It's the same story of Stoke, of Everton and every match we've lost.
"We've never lost a match because we didn't play or because the opponent was stronger than us. We lost every match because we produce, we don't kill opponents, we give them life and every opponent that plays against us knows they can score a goal and change the true result.
"We play sometimes very well and have fantastic chances and don't score. It's the same story that repeats."
He added: "We played very well, that's the only thing I can say. The way we build and create we are not behind that team people always like to compare [his Chelsea team of 2004-2008]; we are in front in terms of the quality of our game. But football is about results, scoring goals and at this moment you see every game we don't kill, we're in trouble and sometimes we lose matches."

I think he's having trouble adjusting to a life without Ronaldo. When he used the same tactics at Real, they had no trouble killing teams off because they had one of the most clinical finishers in the world. Chelsea attackers are talented, but not clinical, so they either have to start creating more chances in order to score more or go back into their defensive shell and try to grind out more 1:0 wins – no prizes for guessing which way Mourinho is going to lean.

At Chelsea, he always had Drogba to win games, with excellent cover from Lampard, Duff and Robben.
At Inter, he had Milito & Eto'o, with excellent cover from Sneijder and Stankovic.
At Madrid, he only really needed Ronaldo tbh!

Now, he's struggling as he doesn't have a goalscorer he can rely on at all .... Torres has improved, but his confidence with scoring is not there. Eto'o is struggling to return to past glories. Ba is a good striker, but has never carried a big team before. They need to splash big in Jan, or they'll revert to the format you mention earlier (which may be a bonus too as let's be honest, Cech and their defense is not as dominant as they once were and chances will be created regardless of the set up).

I can't see what top level goal scorer is going to be available in January for chelski, unless they can recall Lukaku. People like ronaldo/falcao/cavani/higuain/ibra/suarez aren't going to move in the january window, and they're mainly cup-tied for europe. He might have to take a punt on someone like they did with Ba, like Benteke or something.
