Borini

Lazio president Claudio Lotito has confirmed he was interested in signing Fabio Borini and has explained why deals for Burak Yilmaz and Fabio Quagliarella failed to materialise.
Lotito was keen to add a striker to Lazio's squad before Monday's transfer deadline and considered a move for former Roma forward Borini.
However, Borini ended up joining Sunderland on a season-long loan after Lotito claimed Liverpool did not want to sell the 22-year-old.
"His name was under consideration, but Liverpool didn't want to sell him outright and they preferred to keep him in the Premiership," Lotito told Corriere dello Sport.

He's hard working, makes good runs, takes up good position, but really needs to find his finishing boots. Hell never find them with us without a loan as he'll barely get a kick this season unless both suarez and sturridge are out. A loan in the prem makes sense.

[article=http://www.newsguardian.co.uk/sport/local/sunderland-s-borini-out-to-spoil-ozil-s-arsenal-bow-1-6039569]FABIO BORINI hopes Sunderland can emerge from under the radar to scupper Mesut Ozil’s Arsenal debut this weekend.

The media spotlight will fall on Arsenal new boy Ozil at the Stadium of Light on Saturday after the German international completed a £42million deadline day move from Real Madrid to the Emirates.

Minutes before Ozil’s switch was confirmed, Borini finalised a season-long loan switch from Liverpool, with the 22-year-old expected to make his Sunderland bow against the Gunners.

Inevitably, Borini and Sunderland will not garner as much attention as Ozil in the build-up to the game.

But the Italian frontman believes that could work to Sunderland’s advantage by putting a weight of expectation on Arsenal’s record signing.

“The headlines are going to be around Ozil, but that puts a little bit of pressure on them because they’ve got this new player who they’ve spent a lot on,” said Borini.

“There will obviously be a lot of hype around him.

“But maybe that will be good because no-one will be focusing on us.

“It would be a big boost for me to be involved on Saturday.

“It would be my debut for the season because I wasn’t involved in Liverpool’s first three games.

“It’s obviously a big game against a top team too, against a side in the Champions League.

“But,for us, it’s a chance after the first three games.

“Arsenal have got a very good team technically and we’ve got to try to be physical against them.”

Paolo Di Canio is expected to alter the make-up of his front line after Connor Wickham and Ji Dong-won both struggled to make an impression in Sunderland’s defeat at Crystal Palace, prior to the international break.

The Sunderland head coach has Jozy Altidore back at his disposal after the American international missed the Palace game through a hamstring niggle, while Steven Fletcher could also be handed a first start of the season after making his comeback as a substitute at Selhurst Park. But Borini insists that he offers a contrasting option up front to either Altidore or Fletcher.

“I like to think my strengths are playing cleverly and being always on the move,” he added.

“I try to find space that other people can’t find.

“I work the channels and look to work on the shoulder of the defender.

“That makes it harder for the defender.

“Obviously, I’m not a player who relies on physical strength, but I have endurance strength. I can be moving for 90 minutes constantly.”[/article]

[article]Poyet revealed that one of his most difficult calls was whether or not to start the game with the Italian who eventually proved to be the match winner.

“Fabio was so close to starting the game because of his attitude and performance in training and how positive he is,”he said.

“Sometimes you can look at things - and it might be because of the shape of the team, the time, the tactics - and think I can’t put him in right now.

“But, for me, if you were thinking of someone who might score in this game on the basis of training during the week, you would have gone for Fabio.”[/article]

[article=http://www.sunderlandecho.com/sport/sunderland-afc/sunderland-s-borini-thrilled-to-have-the-final-word-1-6189696]SUNDERLAND hero Fabio Borini believes his derby-day ecstasy was reward for his determination to make his mark in red and white.

On-loan Liverpool striker Borini rifled home a stunning winner for the Black Cats in yesterday’s success over Newcastle, to secure back-to-back wins over the Magpies for the first time since 1966-67.

The Italian international had been limited to less than two hours of Premier League football with Sunderland since arriving from Anfield on transfer deadline day.

But Borini has been desperate to catch the eye of new head coach Gus Poyet on the training field and has been battling to make a success of his loan stint.

“I’ve always been fighting, even at Liverpool last season when I was injured, I never gave up,” said Borini.

“That is why the goal means so much to me.

“I came here to play and I’ve not played a lot yet, but every day in training I’ve worked hard and that’s the reward.

“It’s not only about the goal, it’s about the work I do every day in training which is the most important thing.

“The game is just a reflection of the training sessions.

“I still need to show the manager what I’m capable of in training.”

Substitute Borini rifled Jozy Altidore’s lay-off into the top corner with six minutes remaining to prompt wild celebrations at the Stadium of Light, as Sunderland moved off the Premier League basement with a first victory of the campaign.

“I remember everything about it, even the fans coming on and what clothes they were wearing!” said the 22-year-old.

“It wasn’t a great build-up because we were just trying to get it up the pitch because we were suffering.

“But I sniffed that I could get something.

“Obviously as a striker, when you’re around the box you can sense things and I took a touch and just shot in the top corner.

“When I saw the keeper couldn’t reach it, I just went mad next to the corner flag.

“It was a great feeling. I got a few punches in the head, but that’s okay!”

Borini believes that Sunderland’s reaction after Newcastle drew level was just as important as his winning strike though.

Sunderland had conceded 20 goals in the eight league games prior to yesterday’s clash with the Magpies, but Poyet’s side didn’t allow their heads to drop when Mathieu Debuchy equalised just before the hour mark.

“My feeling has been when we’ve conceded goals, we’ve been overtaken by our fears,” added Borini.

“That didn’t happen yesterday and we kept on going which was the main thing, especially in a derby.

“Sometimes, it’s impossible not to concede, but you just have to keep playing.”[/article]

Great goal. Hopefully he can get at least 14 more, have a storming world cup and come back to LFC next season and do that from our bench rather than Sunderlands.

Got a great attitude Borini, and he's got a goal in him.

Not everyone walks in from overseas and adapts straight away. This kid's worth sticking with, there could be something there.
Is correct

Sunderland’s derby day match-winner Fabio Borini insists he has not given up on his Liverpool career.

The on-loan Italian striker came off the bench to score the decisive goal in Sunday’s 2-1 success over bitter rivals Newcastle - his first strike for the Black Cats.

That matches his Barclays Premier League tally for the Reds, where he spent an injury-disrupted first season having arrived in a £10million deal from Roma.

The arrival - and fine form - of Daniel Sturridge in January pushed Borini further down the Anfield pecking order and although he was allowed to leave for the season, the 22-year-old is clear about where he sees his future.

'There has been a squad revolution there but the worst thing for me was getting injured when I was actually playing at the start of last season,' he told Rete Sport.

'I remain a Liverpool player, I’m on loan because there wasn’t space for me and after a year of injuries I needed to get my confidence back, to play some games.

'But my roots are still there.'

His immediate focus is with Sunderland, though, and victory over the Magpies lifted them off the bottom of the table with a first win of the campaign.

'It was definitely important, not so much just for me but for the whole team,' he said.

'It came at a difficult time and to get out of that slump is very important. It feels fantastic.'

I'd love to see him make at Liverpool.

Hopefully he can have a cracking season at Sunderland and we take it from there.
