Yeah, and it was all because of Hodgson, was it?
So he gets slaughtered when we lose and no credit when we win?
Amazing isn't it.

We won in spite of him not because of him.

Choosing a shit line-up?

People were saying that before the game as well, but as far as the 4-2-3-1 formation goes, that was more or less the best side he could've put out. Sure, he could've used Kelly at RB or perhaps one of the other useless plodders on the wing, but it's likely that Rafa would've gone for the same selection and it was ultimately vindicated given that we played well and won.

Any line-up with Lucas and Maxi in the team and Carra at right-back is fucking gash. But let today's performance fool you.

Really? So you really think the players and the manager don't talk to each other and figure out a game plan?

The players really got together and said 'sod this defending deep like wot the gaffa said, let's defend with a high line and actually play football and attack them'?

For someone who rates himself, his tactics and managerial style so highly and not been shy to publicly tell the world so, I find it very hard to believe that he's let the players change his philosophy.

We're all pretty much anti-Hodgson here, but you're coming off as a little demented.

I thought we were talking about whether the line-up was shit? You seem to think it was more or less the best line-up we could have put out. That's what I was responding to. Why does that make me demented?

Enlighten me as to how the team today could have been a wonderful line up please.

Perhaps he is more flexible than we thought and has taken on board suggestions, maybe even decided that it was probably him that thought of it anyway. Either that or the players have taken to the field with their own gameplan?

It's just the way you've come across in this thread.

What line-up would you have chosen today?

If Roy had've been fired after the Napoli game as the rumours suggested, I sincerely doubt any replacement would've picked a team with Kelly, Shelvey and Babel / whoever in place of Maxi (who is actually a decent option when the team play well as they did today).

I would've played Shelvey ahead of Lucas, and Carra in the centre with Kyrgiakos and Kelly at right-back. Or whatever, the point is a large majority of this site would not have chosen the line-up chosen by Roy today.

You also seem to suggest I've cluttered this thread with posts. I haven't - it's only been the last page where I'm objecting to Hodgson being given credit for the win because a) we didn't play that well for starters; b) there was not much change apart from some of the players showing up and showing more desire and heart for a change.

There's not much else to what I'm saying and I don't see how that makes me come across as demented.

I wasn't trying to suggest that you've cluttered the thread and it's not what I think of you or your posting style generally speaking. Just - as you say - this last page of posts.

Anyways, my previous post predicted your response and you're right - many of us would've picked a slightly different side. I don't think many managers would though and that's what we're ultimately judging.

The reason I've said you've come across is weird is because I don't think anyone is gushing over Hodgson or desperate to claim "credit where credit's due", but you seem oddly hellbent on making the case anyways.

He picked the side, we played well (yes we did for most of the game) and we won the game. That doesn't mean we all think he's a good manager and he should stay. Calm down.

Even though we are playing well, I would bring on N'Gog for Lucas. Give Torres a bit more space too.
You don't get "more space" as a striker when you switch from 4-4-1-1 to a 4-4-2, you get less.
