Why reduce anything ? You didn't say anything about midfielders in your comment. I agree with your point but you didn't raise that in your post.

Allen is by far the oldest in that midfield, and he's 24.

Can and Ibe are great and all, but it's not the best of teams. I know we're restricted, but I do wish we had a little more in our squad than this.

The second sentence is not a continuance to the first, though obviously you thought it was, despite adding an extra empty line thereby creating a new paragraph. If you had said ' not the best of midfields' instead of 'not the best of teams' then your intention would not have been obscured (especially since Ibe is actually a forward, regardless of where he is being player at the moment).

Ok....you misunderstood my intention, I've clarified it. I'll rephrase:

Allen is by far the oldest in that midfield, and he's 24.

Can and Ibe are great and all, but it's not the best of teams, because the midfield is experienced. I know we're restricted, but I do wish we had a little more in our squad than this, to add to the midfield.
