Firstly, Gerrard has been better than Kuyt today, so one would be less inclined to pick on his mistakes.

Secondly, Gerrard has had quite a bit of criticism this season. Only the other day, Rafa was talking about him needing to pick his form up. And I've heard fans go on about him quite a bit this year.

Thirdly, Gerrard has done far more for us than Kuyt ever has or ever will, is not a divisive player amongst fans at all and doesn't tend to go missing for months at a time every season.
