Arthur Melo

Pointless signing if we don’t have an option to buy.
He’s not match fit for most teams, let alone ours, taking into account how hard we train pre season to ensure we can get as many lovely injuries in nice and early.
So by the time he’s fit, if we haven’t broken him by then, we may get a few good games before the World Cup break. By which time most of our players should be back.

As for tsimikas going the other way. Why sell our current best left back?
Here's another thought - why believe everything you read?

I'm about 1.70m

You know who else is 1.70? Messi.

So I'm guessing Arthur has a 50% chance of being great...

Something I’ve learned with transfers is no matter how shit the player is there will always be people telling you they’re good and being hyped about it.

The worst is these enigma or flawed players, if you can just coax the talent out of him / if you can just keep him fit… if it were that simple they wouldn’t be in this position.
And vice versa.

Bad news is that this guy sounds like a paper mache version of Lucas, as others have pointed out. Although I did often wish Lucas was a lot less fit so I might hate Arthur less

Good news is we're not spending 20M on Douglas Luiz who is bang fucking average too

It's a bizarre signing though in that it doesn't provide any answers to the long-term future of our midfield.

We now have 9 midfielders, with 4 of them having 1 year left. I'm assuming Ox, Milner are certain to leave, and I suspect that the new deal for Keita will not materialise. Now Arthur might give us some short term relief, but do we actually buy him next year if he plays well? He'll be 27 next year and isn't exactly an impressive physical specimen.

This does very little to alleviate the pressure on us in future transfer windows. Just a short term fix that'll help us the way Kabak did briefly.

Yeah was thinking the same,

Our loan signings over the last 20 years. Not a very encouraging lot I must say. Mascherano the only one whose loan got converted into a permanent stay.

Kabak
Caulker
Manquillo
Moses
Cissokho
Sahin
Mascherano
Padelli
Paul Jones
Anelka

He has 22 caps with Brazil and won the Copa Americas. That's all I know about him but based on that alone he can't be any worse than Ox Keita Curtis.

As long as he stays fit he will contribute.

Good perspective. He's got better credentials than Aspas for sure

Just heard a great stat, he hasn’t managed over 1500 minutes in any of his seasons in Europe :nurse:

Perfect midfielder for Liverpool then. Adds squad depth to both the football pitch and treatment t table. What more could we ask for.

But Kabak could have been and Anelka should have been. Most of the others were squad fillers. Maybe Şahin's 'failure' the most disappointing one for me.
