After watching that utterly disastrous midfield display last night, I am baffled that we are willing to let Aquilani go when he is one of our creative outlets.

You didn't really think that Hodgson was going to go for an attacking central midfield did you?
I liked the look of:

Ngog
Cole
Mascherano Gerrard
I even get the feeling that Poulson with SG could be decent.

Poulson was so bad on Thursday.

I disagree. He was very iffy in the first 45 (understandably, he's only played 20 mins of footy in preseason). 2nd half he looked excellent.

I thought he looked decent too, some of his passing was good, didn't look the Masher type of blood and guts tackling though, more like the type of player who will read the game and mop up without making too many challenges.

We played Rafa Benitez crab football for most of the 90, the performance represented the ten pound value of the ticket.

We were shit, and the partnership in the middle, once again, was shit. That shouldn't reflect badly on him though, if he had an attacking player next to him his job would look more efficient and less of a nothing role.

The performances of the two central players are always going to come in for criticism when neither of them are offering anything going forward. Poulsen has the excuse of being a DM who's job first and foremost is to break up the play, Lucas' role is neither here nor there, he's not a great DM and he's proving himself to be a bit of a nothing playmaker too.

It was just painful to see Lucas trying to tackle his way into the Trabzonspor penalty area, again and again.

The sooner Roy finds out how shite he is the better.

Looks like Juve for Aqualani then. What a fucking waste. We better be able to recall him at fairly short notice when Joe gets injured.

Makes the fact we are letting Aquilani go ever more agonising!

Confirmed?

Pretty much- his agent has confirmed it. Another, less likely one, is that we're loaning them Aquaman and they're loaning us Felipe Melo.

Juve have just signed Milo Krasic for €15m. Hopefully, if Aqua does move there on loan, he'll be replacing Diego (sold to fund deals?), stay fit, get to play lots and join them permanently.

Let's all pray for a good season for Aqua @ Juve. Hope Roy's decision proves right.

Alberto Aquilani will join Juventus on loan with the right to buy from Liverpool. “All that’s missing are the signatures,†said his agent.

The former Roma midfielder looks set to complete his return to Serie A this weekend after struggling to recover from injury during his Premier League experience.

“It is a loan with the right to buy and Juve will be covering all of his wages,†explained agent Franco Zavaglia to Sportitalia television.

“I have been in Liverpool since Thursday morning talking to their directors. On Saturday I will return to Italy.

“All that’s left to define now are the final details between the two clubs and Alberto’s signature.â€

Although the figures have not yet been released, it’s reported the buy-out clause has already been set at €15m.

His current wages, which will be covered by Juve, are €3.4m per season.

The transfer was not even on the horizon earlier this week, but the Bianconeri seem to have completed this swoop under the radar.

“Everything was done very quickly. Roy Hodgson said Alberto needs to play and would not have found much space at Anfield, whereas Juventus will give him this possibility.â€

The agent also commented on Roma boss Claudio Ranieri’s confession he had wanted Aquilani at Juventus when he was still in charge.

“The directors at the time did not know how to or did not want to complete the operation, but it’s well known Alberto has always been favourite of Ranieri’s.â€

Meant to post something along those lines earlier. Anyone else think this is down to the wage bill?
i don't think so. if we were struggling with wages then it wouldn't make sense why we signed poulsen, kept the greek, or re-signed aurelio. none of those people are on peanuts and add up to probably double what aquilani was getting.

its probably because aquilani isn't in roy's first team for the league. in the cups he'd rather use it to give experiences to shelvey, spearing and lucas. so basically aquilani can only play when joe cole is injured. and aquilani is injured more frequently than joe cole so it was not going to add up to a lot of games for him.

unfortunately hodgson is starting to act like a fucking idiot, instead of playing pacheco he's going to replace joe cole with poulsen or lucas and preside over 90 minutes of shit for the next three games.

From the offy..

Liverpool and Juventus have agreed a one-year loan deal for Alberto Aquilani.

The midfielder will undergo a medical in Italy on Monday.

So we get Poulsen for £5M

And they get Aquilani for a year on a free.

I know who wins there.

It is hard to say when he's never been given a chance. i'd say the current board see him as symptomatic of Rafa's mistakes, and aren't going to persist with him.

how the fuck did this happen. will juve now look at inter's ibrahimovic "transfer" and now say you think thats funny? - check this out...

I'd say so.
if aqua had the determination he would have got down the gym and put on twenty pounds of muscle as almost certainly the reason he wasn't picked was his strength not his talent.

Looking at the positives, i'd say Poulsen has been brought in to replace Aquilani rather than Mascher!! And I know who I'd have everyday of the week.. Not that its a choice for 6 days because after playing a games Aquilani is on the treatment table..

the concern is not what aqua brings to the table when we have the ball, if what he brings to the table when we don't have the ball, and he doesn't have the strength (mental or physical) to boot his foot in and such a player who favours the middle is a luxury.

I'd say so.
Robbie Keane was equally a big fuck up of £20m. Well done Rafa. I'd love to hear RAWK's take on this transfer, I'm sure they hate Roy for it.

The Alonso-Aqua-Lucas summer really was the nail in the coffin for Rafa..

.. and our 'best midfield in the world' song too.

20 million...

liverpool's worse signing, ever?
I'd go as far as saying the premier leagues worst signing, yes veron cost UTD more but at least he had a rep and the fee was justified. We paid 20 million on a known crock.

The cunts on SQUAWK will probably say that Hodgeson is a disgrace and never gave Aquilani a chance, thus depriving them of their dream CM partnership of Lucas and The Shithouse

Obviously ignoring the fact that Benitez paid 20m for a spineless, lazy crock, and didn't fancy him either

Fuck off and good riddance
