Aquilani To Leave On Loan

Status
Not open for further replies.
Rafa fucked us over big time here didn't he? Pushing one of our best midfielders in years out of the door and buying an injury prone shithouse with the money. And THEN when he is fit relying on the hapless Lucas to fill the gap Alonso left. I suppose that's the other ten players' on the pitch fault for not being as good as Lucas or on his wavelength, though.

Seriously though, it really seems that Rafa didn't do any homework on this player at all. He gets rid of a great deep lying midfielder, replaces him with somebody who is ALREADY INJURED and on top of that can't play there! If you get rid of one of your best players, through your own actions and stubborness then the least you could do is make sure you do your utmost and find an able replacement for £20 million!

I'm not saying Aquilani is a bad player, but for £20 million you could sign the majority of centre midfielders in the world. You just have to pick the right one. It seems as though he couldn't be arsed one day and his scout approached him and went "Err what about that Aquilani fella? He's decent on Pro Evo" and Rafa just went along with it.

20 million...

liverpool's worse signing, ever?
I'd go as far as saying the premier leagues worst signing, yes veron cost UTD more but at least he had a rep and the fee was justified. We paid 20 million on a known crock.
I wouldn't go that far at all. Were you watching "Soccer Saturday" earlier? That prick Stelling was coming it with this idea and Thommo looked like he wanted to chin him for it. Veron didn't do the Mancs any more good than Aquilani's done us, and he cost well over half as much again. It's been a poor signing, no question, but let's not go overboard about it and peddle Sky's nonsense for them.

I'd say so.

Robbie Keane was equally a big fuck up of £20m. Well done Rafa. I'd love to hear RAWK's take on this transfer, I'm sure they hate Roy for it.
to be fair el hadji diouf at £10m was just as bad as those 2. still, no excuses for rafa on those signings.

I do wonder at the logic of sending him away just as Joe Cole faces a 3 match ban and we could do with a playmaker.

I think there's a case for him being the worst to be honest. Man Utd signing Veron then isn't really comparable to us signing Aquilani. They signed him when they were the best team in the country and were looking to consolidate that position and polish their squad further. We got rid of one of our best players, replaced him with Aquilani for big money and went from 2nd to 7th in 12 months. It was disastrous. Plus, the money affects us more now than it did Utd then.

you've got to feel sorry for thommo, being outwitted every week by the likes of paul merson and charlie nicholas. no wonder he wants to chin someone.

I see what you're saying, but I don't agree. Those other things happened at the same time as the Aquilani signing, not because of it.

Indeed. It's actually a trifle embarrassing listening to him sometimes - or has been, because I'm buggered if I'm paying for it after it leaves Freeview this weekend.

There's no guarantees he'll go yet... It says his medical's on monday.
Well that means he's not going...

but it's going to be available in HD! that's gotta be worth paying for - i know sky news's lovely electric blue studio gives me HD value, now i'll be able to examine the exquisite steve curry in his full glory.

No, that was clearly Nicky Tanner or Jimmy Carter. I'm bored of posting this!

Wasn't it "up to £18m", hence we won't have paid anywhere near that due to him being shit and injured?
Don't do it. The doom mongers will swarm around you to diss you. Just like they do when you tell them Robbie Keane did NOT cost us £20m!

i think rosco said it was up to £26m, but guaranteed instalments of £20m or so, might have been a bit less, but the bulk was definitely non-contingent.

Four cash installments:

* €5m upfront
* €3m by 4th January 2010
* €7m by June 30th 2010
* €5m by June 30th 2011.

Base transfer fee = €20m/£18m

Further Add ons include:

* €300k for every year Liverpool qualify for the CL from 2010/11 to 2014/15.

* €250k every time the player reaches 35 appearancs; 70 appearances; 105 appeances and then 140 appearances.

* €1m the first time Liverpool either wins the Premier League or Champions League by 30 June 2014.

* 5% of any future transfer fee paid to Roma.

We did get some use of him though and he wasn't injured the whole season.

If we're being pedantic, Aquilani just shades it.

Anyway, lets not do this to ourselves.

The more I think about this the more angry I become.

I don't know if Aquilani's lazy in training, if the board are forcing Hodgson's hand here, or if Roy just plain old doesn't rate him.

Whatever it is, though, it's fucking shit. This was meant to be his season, his chance, and for whatever reason it's not going to happen.

I only realised that it was Jamie Kanwar's site after making the post. :🙂
Oh the shame.

The figures were taken from the Roma website and I have seen them elsewhere so I assume they are entirely accurate.

Unless we get somebody else in this is a fucking pointless piece of business.

Give Roy some credit. He's not as clueless as some lads make him out to be.

We'll get someone in as a replacement! Have no fear when Roy is near.

Meant to post something along those lines earlier. Anyone else think this is down to the wage bill?
I think so.

Mascherano and him are probably on similar money. And all the signs are pointing to us keeping Mascherano now
