I hope the sale happens, but why would Roy come out yesterday and say he's going on loan?
He must be desperate to get him off his wage bill. Juve will not pay over the odds for him. And in a Poulsen out for 6 mill and Aquilani in for free the have done even better than our Cole vs Yossi swap!
From the quote he's clearly stating that Aquilani expects to be in the first team, hence the comment about him "wanting to be at a team where he's the first name on the team sheet", reading between the lines it sounds like he's fucked off Uncle Roy with his attitude, either that or Roy thinks he's shit.

y so he's probably getting Danny Murphy, David Dunn, Mark Noble or Scott Parker to fill Aquilani's spot.
On their football alone, I would prefer any of those players to Aquilani... even Dunn has an easier time staying fit.

Aquilani was a fucking mistake from the start... if we can get enough for him (even if it means we take a big loss) to buy someone like Defour (as has been mentioned) we should jump at the opportunity. This loan deal is never going to end well for us.

I'd take any of them too in our squad, they're all proven players who could do a good job for us, as a squad player anyway.

Particularly the last 2 - and completely agree regarding Defour.

I would imagine that Roy as accurately evaluated the Italian and has decided that, whilst a talented player, it is difficult to accomadate him in the team. He's injury prone, can't play in a central midfield duo and is not as good as Cole in the attacking role.

Those two statements are IMO unfounded. Cole hasn't played in that attacking role since his West Ham days. And there's nothing in his stats saying that he's better than Aquilani. I think it's more wishful thinking than rational. We saw glimpses of Aquilani's class last season and most us was were ecstatic.

How can some of you think that Fatty Dunn and Mark Noble are good enough to play for us?
I saw the Villa game and Noble was shit. Sissoko is fucking Einstein compared to him.
And Dunn? Well he's just fat.

I see. You see Aquilani as a disciplined all rounder of a midfielder, do you? Robust, a good tackler, ability to go forward and get back to defend with the positional awareness needed to play in central midfield? Perhaps you're right.

Honestly, I'm so disspointed by this. I really think this could have been Aquilani's year, it's not like we have a massive squad anyway. He's one of the few creative forward passing players we have.

Bad move Roy.

Dunn is and always has been a good player, he's had injury problems which held him back, but the quality has always been there. He's far from 'shit' and he's better than fucking Sissoko, and a completely different type of player, so the comparison is just fucking retarded anyway.

I'm more concerned about his attacking capabilities. Aquilani is a much better passer than Cole. If Gerrard and Mascherano/Poulsen are playing behind him he doesn't need to defend as much.
We saw how good of a tackler Joe Cole is against Arsenal... 😉
Listen, I don't want to get in to an argument about who's better Cole or Aquilani. I'm more or less saying that both of them have a role to play. I'd love to see Aquilani in midfield instead of Lucas, that is if Gerrard is somehow unavailable.
Last seasons game against Portsmouth was probably also the best game of the season. Why? We played some fantastic football, in some ways thanks to Aquaman.

OK, I'm being a bit harsh, he had the potential to be great I must admit, but those days long gone.

it is all about how you want your team to play.

Poulsen and Lucas shows that a team isnt interested in dictate the play by pass and move. They cant do that job.

Aquilani could if fit and trusted. He is obvisously neither, hence it is best for both parties that he leaves. But Roy is sending out a very strange signal here. He dont want to entertain thats for fucking sure. And I have been bored and bored and bored for something that looks like eternities. I admit that winning in a silly unfashioned undeserved lucky manner is not bad at all. But we dont. We are not a winning team, and we will not with the engine room we have these days. I would rather fight for the top four spot by showing some class and happiness. Lucas and Poulsen will never do that and they will never make me proud f my team. The Aquilani type of player would at least give me a glimmer of hope that we would dare to go out there and be Liverpool.

Weren't you arguing that he can play in central midfield pairing? Just a couple of posts ago?
Isn't he arguing it in that post as well?
Exactly.
Like I said a midfield partnership of Aquilani and Mascherano/Poulsen would be interesting to see.
Sure his defensive skills are a bit suspect but I think with his passing range we'll be extremely dangerous going forward.

Interesting stat:

Alberto Aquilani set up a goal every 136 minutes - the best assist rate in the top five leagues in Europe in 2009-10

YES!!!

And Roy is giving him the boot just because...

3 of those 4 assists came against Burnley away... one of which involved him falling over as if he had a four ton clitoris to contend with, and the ball fell off his flaps into Stevie Me's path.

Frankly, Redshrek, you annoy me.
You're one of this site's few genuine ITK posters, and yet have you ONCE given us any news about that cunt Lucas leaving?

Well?

It's not as interesting as you placing some meaning on assist statistics...

I still don't.

I just saw this reproduced in defence of Aquilani earlier and lolled a bit.

After watching that utterly disastrous midfield display last night, I am baffled that we are willing to let Aquilani go when he is one of our creative outlets.

Anyone other than Maradona who has tried to play a pass like that has failed miserably from that point - with their career taking an immediate nose-dive

Exhibit A: David Dunn above
Exhibit B: Alberto Aquilani
Exhibit C: Harry Kewell

i'm sure there are more.....

I liked the look of:

Ngog
Cole
Mascherano Gerrard
