Agreed, but I think your last sentence is the nub - there simply arent any clubs out there who would willingly pay even 5m for Aqua given his record oevr the last 12mths - clearly the club feel the only workable option is to get him back to Italy, playing games, and get him in the shop window.
I would prefer that we kept him and gave him a chance, but he has been pretty mediocre in his admittedly limited appearances.

No wonder Macia and Rafa fell out over scouting reports cause this transfer was doomed from the start. Everyone knew he was a sicknote, and Rafa knew he wouldn't play for the first 3 months of the season.

Mascherano doesn't tend to be slow in telling everyone where he wants to go and what club he'd love to play for. I'd have thought if he was staying with us we'd have heard about it
