Aquilani To Leave On Loan

The worst option really. Selling him would be fine, keeping him would be ok but just letting him go for nothing seems silly.

Mind you, would any club take a risk on him for money? doubt it.

Agreed, but I think your last sentence is the nub - there simply arent any clubs out there who would willingly pay even 5m for Aqua given his record oevr the last 12mths - clearly the club feel the only workable option is to get him back to Italy, playing games, and get him in the shop window.

I would prefer that we kept him and gave him a chance, but he has been pretty mediocre in his admittedly limited appearances.

This is pure shit! I thought we were going to give him a proper chance this season.
Get a grip Roy.

So it's Lucas and Poulsen as the cm two this season then?
Shit!!!
Exactly. Shit shit shit shit fucking shit!

If this is a indication about Roys football philosofy I´m worried if I will survive this season.

Tbh I'd much rather sell him, but his market value has dropped dramatically in the last 12 months. No wonder Macia and Rafa fell out over scouting reports cause this transfer was doomed from the start. Everyone knew he was a sicknote, and Rafa knew he wouldn't play for the first 3 months of the season.

Replacing one of the worlds best midfielders with that, was well asking for trouble.

But thats water under the bridge. Roy said a month or so ago that this was a big season for Alberto, I'm guessing he can't have been impressed with what he has seen. And to be honest, who has? He has looked very very ordinary in pre season.

Loaning him out for a small fee, Italian club pays his wages and and getting in a pretty decent sum for an option of a permanent transfer is probably the best deal now. If he impresses in Italy, which he is likely to do if he keeps fit will get us maybe 12-15 mill £. If we sold him today we'd get 5-7 mill £.

I don't think Roy would let him leave without someone else coming in. VDV is rumoured to be loaned out..

Stupid move. What happens when (not if) Gerrard and Cole breaks down?
Our attacking midfield was sorted but suddenly now we're short one player. Is Pacheco, Spearing or Shelvey gonna fill his boots? No! Well not yet anyway.

I think this a simple case of Hodgson deciding he doesn't like the player despite his potential.
Bullshit......who the hell knows if Aquilani would be even fit himself if those two were injured or not on top form.

Oh, and Roy said that Stevie is a cm this season, not going to play behind the striker.

So Joe Cole will play every game this season? Or is Hodgsons plan to replace Aquilani with Ola Toivanen.
Jesus Christ.

Napoli is the club rumoured to be after him. They at least have some money.

Toivonen played last night for PSV, I'm not to sure how keen Roy is on that signing. The comments from PSV was that he wasn't for sale, and I can understand that cause he's their best player.

Easily the worst signing we have ever made.

'Ooh, Bren, give him a chance'

Fuck off. He's quite obviously shit, and he can't even get in a midfield that consists of those two plodding cunts Poulsen and Lucas, the shittest CM partnership to ever play for Liverpool.

Why do so many people take such a simplistic view on things and make such sweeping and harsh judgements without knowing if there are any other factors?
There is more to this than meets the eye if you ask me.
This seems very un-Hodgson like, it's not like he has seen enough of the player to form any opinion (Christ I haven't yet), the last thing I would have thought he wants to do is thin the squad needlessly when he has been working at building it up
It could signify that Mascher is staying (different player I know, but from a whole squad and wages perspective).
Other more likely possibilities are, serious personal problems with Aquilani, or there is someone else coming in on loan for us or a new signing.
Pity as I wanted to see what he was actually like.

regards

I don't like this. Either sell him or play him.

Eggzackly

Sell Aquilani to Juve for 10 million, take the money and get Defour. We might as well cut our losses now.

What's the chance of him going to Juve and make a stunning success of it? If he does, they won't be paying us 20 million for him even if he was the rincarnation of Leonardo Da Vinci!

My first thought was that Mascherano must be staying, but there have been mentions that Hodgson isn't impressed with Aquilani in training. Apparently he's a bit workshy.

This, plus similar posts from grjt and furyoo, says it all. I dread to think what the reaction would be if we DID sell him now for a piffling fee.

Van Der vaart finally coming?

Apparently he has said the the only club that wouldnt be a step down from RM is MUFC.

Burning his bridges a bit if he actually said that

Mascherano doesn't tend to be slow in telling everyone where he wants to go and what club he'd love to play for. I'd have thought if he was staying with us we'd have heard about it

How much have we paid so far? If it's based on appearances/success then it'll be no whre near the £18m or whatever it was.
I think the appearances/success only adds up to a little.

The bulk of the fee is in instalment basis if I'm not mistaken.

We're looking at a massive loss.

he is being viewed as a CM and a 'shithouse' when it's obvious he should be played in the hole. aqua doesn't have he phyiscal presence to play in CM, 'oh, but scholes played there' scholes puts himself about (albeit illegally). so the question isn't 'can he force his way into CM', the question is can he force his way into the forward positions? if we don't think he can we should sell, not loan.

He was bought as Alonso's replacement. Rafa/Macia would have seen him as a centre mid. Unfortunately he's lazy, workshy and gets walked over by shitty Reading players in FA Cup ties so it means he gets played in another role.

Words attributed to him by Daily Express:

"I could never play for another club in Spain and the truth is that if you are leaving Real Madrid, there is only one club you can join that is not a step down - and that's Manchester United," Van der Vaart told the Daily Express.

"They are a huge club and if the reported interest they have in me turns out to be true, then I would really have to sit down and listen.

"If Manchester United could offer me first-team football with the situation as it is at Madrid, it would be very hard to turn down. Alex Ferguson is a great coach and I would never think about joining a team where I didn't believe I could win things, so all of a sudden that limits your choices.

"At Manchester United you know success is likely and that's a big factor for me at this stage of my career. "If [Real boss] Jose Mourinho makes it clear I won't play much, I see my future in English football."

christ what a waster. i've never liked him as a player, it's been obvious from his first few appearances that he'll never do anything for us, but i still never saw this coming: loaning a £20m player to try to drum up some interest.

i'd defend rafa for most things, but this whole episode is beyond a fucking joke.
