Give Roy some credit. He's not as clueless as some lads make him out to be.

We'll get someone in as a replacement! Have no fear when Roy is near.

We already have - Poulsen..!

I can't work out who was a worse signing; Keane or Aquilani?

Doubt it, He's said he's shipping him out because he won't get the game time here, sounds to me like he feels that postion/s sorted.

Meant to post something along those lines earlier. Anyone else think this is down to the wage bill?
I think so.

Mascherano and him are probably on similar money. And all the signs are pointing to us keeping Mascherano now
The signs are we're only keeping him because no-one put a bid in. We'll still off-load if someone bids what we want, regardless of what happens to Acqualini.

I think all we can hope for is that he rediscovers form and confidence and we can recoup some money. He is done as a Liverpool player. What a fucking wast of time, effort and money. Balls to it.

It is a shame, because Aqualani is obviously a terrific player. I'm so sorry he isn't being given a chance, because I think he's the sort of player we should aspire to have in our team.

Aquilani by far. Keane was never injured and he scored 7 goals in his time, for whatever they were worth.

Are we likely to get an upfront fee for this?
I suspect that given the wages we probably are lucky not to be subsidising the deal

All im going to say was he must have been awful in training, as he was never given a chance and the times he did play he looked a real asset, gutted to see him go, what makes it worse is that uber cunt is still in our squad, if Mascherano doesnt leave and we have Masch, Lucas and Poulson I will genuinely think Hodgson is mental.

Gerrard is going to be a central midfielder this season, Roy said so a couple of weeks ago. Still, if he gets injured it's shockingly little creativity in the rest of those players left.

Shelvey probably is the closest and he won't be playing much this season.

Yeah, we need a Defour-type player really. If we loaned out Aquilani, sold Lucas and bought Defour, that for me would be a step forward.

Alternatively, it would be great if Shelvey *could* make the step up this season.

Allot of people pointed to our strength in depth to our failings last year.

This season we have sold Benny, Riera and Aqua and brought in Jova and Cole, now my spelling isn't the best but 3 is a larger amount than 2.
We still need to fill the same positions as we did last year plus we're shorter on numbers.

We had Riera on the books, but he was not available for selection, was he?

We ha Aqua on the books, but he was not available for selection, was he?

So replacing those two with one player who is likely to be involve is actually a step forward. We still still need at least two or three signings.

I seem to recall reading here last October/November time that the reason at that stage why Rafa wasn't playing Aqualini was not because he hadn'd sufficiently recovered from injury but simply that he no longer rated or trusted him any more, based on what he had seen of him in training. It may have been from Redshrek or someone else who occasionally gets in the know information. At the time though, it was dismissed out of hand as paranoid conjecture, but perhaps it was in fact more acurate than we thought.

Roy has started him in a number of preseason games, where Aqualini passed up on the opportunity to shine despite having the potential to be the best player on the pitch. Based on what Hodgson has seen of Aqualini both in training and in those preseason matches, which is a lot more than any of us internet posters has seen, he doesn't appear to trust him to make the desired impact at the club this season.

While there is undoubtly a smashing player trying to get out I still have my doubts that Aqualini will ever be a star in the Premiership. For every decent performance he put in, he put in as many bad ones. He was truely shocking in the match against Bolton last January. At that match I got the impression that the pace and the power of the league was just too much for him. He wasn't always getting the time on the ball he wanted and he looked to get rid of the ball quicker that he needed/wanted to in order to avoid being tackled.
All of this could in time and matches played be remedied. He could grow more confident in his injury prone body's ability to cope with the physical nature of the premiership. He could in time adjust to the pace of the league. Unfortunately he seemed to be only adjusting marginally and slowly in the limited time he got to play last season. This season we don't have the luxury of slowly trying to bed a player in. All of our new players really need to hit the ground running.

After all of that though, he does have the potential to come in and do a job for us on occasion and he is at least a squad filler. Like with Babel, who is even more frustrating, I will be dissapointed if he is not replaced, even by a loan signing, who can contribute significently to the squad depth.

It's been fucking obvious to anyone who has any idea about the Premiership that The Shhithouse was never, ever going to be a success here

I fucking despair when scopers quack on about Portsmouth last season, or his 'assists'

He is a spineless, slow, non-tackling twat, and he is the worst signing we ever made

Just fuck off, and never come back

Gene, I'm pretty sure Fox meant his arithmetic! Hahaha

This should be a pretty interesting week for a few arrivals.

Agreed, especially as Juve are paying the whole of his wages themselves.

My Juve-supporting cousin has mixed feelings about this. He's broadly in favour of the signing, as he rates Aquilani and shudders at the thought of Melo and Momo as a CM combo, but he describes Aquilani as having been "spoilt" even in his Roma days, which pretty much ties in with much of what's been said and rumoured about him.

on RAWK I was arguing with someone that aqualini isn't even worth a place on the bench because he isn't an impact player to which the person replied aqua 'IS' an impact player...

ha ha, gracious!

he isn't spineless. it takes more courage to risk trying to win a game and to play football, as opposed to just sitting in front of the defence playing 10 yard passes like a fucking fugesi.

when you pay millions to an artist for a portrait, you expect them to produce a beautiful work or art. not use a fucking roller to paint the canvas yellow. and then have a bunch of mental cunts try and pretend that yellow canvas is some abstract work of a genius.

aquilani was an artist and you can see that he was trying to do positive things on the field. our other midfielders are the true spineless cowards.

At top level, simply being an artist isn't enough though. You need SOME degree of grit in the mixture, and even back home in Serie A there have been doubts about whether Aquilani has that.
