How do you think he'll do this season?

Does he fit into the team properly?

Are Downing, Adam and Henderson all bought to put balls on his head?

If they are, does that mean we're focussing too much on how to utilise Carroll, and where will that leave Suarez?

Will we continue to see the pass and move football we were getting used to?

How do you think he'll do this season? Fitness permitting, I think he'll do well.

Does he fit into the team properly? I anticipate we'll be mixing and matching a fair bit this coming season. It won't all be a matter of feeding Carroll. When he IS the favoured option I'm sure we'll be set up in a way which utilises his strengths well.

Are Downing, Adam and Henderson all bought to put balls on his head? Yes (Downing especially) but not exclusively. See above.

If they are, does that mean we're focussing too much on how to utilise Carroll, and where will that leave Suarez? Some on here are. I don't reckon Kenny and his coaches will be making that mistake. Suarez will be our player of the season, maybe the Prem's overall.

Will we continue to see the pass and move football we were getting used to? Most of the time, yes. There'll be times when we depart from it but I don't expect that to happen regularly. Carroll is no mug on the deck and can defo play his part in such a style.

He'll score 15 plus in the league.

People are assuming just cause he's a big lad that he's slow and can only head a football. He's pretty rapid and is more than capable with the ball at his feet. I don't see why his inclusion should lead to a decrease in pretty football. It will certainly provide us with a different dimension though.

I think he'll do pretty well, as HC says, he'll score 15 goals this season. One thing I hope he does is have a shave and cut that bloody ponytail of his.

I think his presence will help us a lot in away games, where we've struggled badly over the last two seasons and where even under Kenny we weren't always able to play pass-and-move. Having a bigger, more rugged striker up front will help in terms of keeping the ball up the other end of the pitch (assuming he can improve his first touch) and I think we'll score a LOT more goals from set-pieces with Downing and Adam in the team.

Having said that, I wouldn't be at all surprised if Carroll didn't start a lot of our home games. He may have cost 35m pounds, but if Kuyt and Suarez are a better and more mobile forward combination at home, that's who Kenny will pick.

top post. agree totally.

It'd be a pain in the arse to be playing centre-forward for Liverpool but never get picked for Anfield games.

Agreed. I'd have them as starting front 2 wherever TBH.

carroll will score more this coming season.

yeah, i'd honestly take carroll over aguero but if he does worse it's gonna be a stick to beat kenny with.

Aguero's wages are about three times that of Carroll's...how are we conveniently ignoring this?

er.... you've answered your own question.

Agree with those answers. Carroll is a very good player. Hopefully he'll grow into a 35m type player, but I do expect him to do well. Suarez may well be PL player of the season. I was asking my sons this evening if they'd swap Suarez for anybody. Messi would be the only possibility, but Suarez is looking like a legend-in-the-making.

If Carroll does not do as well as Sergio, the price tag will be a millstone around his neck with the sword of Damocles waiting....

[/quote]Im not sure that 15 goals would represent a good season to be honest HC.

1 Cristiano Ronaldo[4] Manchester United Real Madrid £90
2 Kaká[5] Milan Real Madrid £57
3 Zlatan Ibrahimovi?[6][7][8] Internazionale Barcelona £56.5
4 Fernando Torres[9] Liverpool Chelsea £50
5 Zinedine Zidane[10][11] Juventus Real Madrid £45.7
6 Luís Figo[12] Barcelona Real Madrid £37
7 Hernán Crespo[13][14] Parma Lazio £35.5
8 Sergio Aguero[15] Atletico Madrid Manchester City £39
9 Andy Carroll[16] Newcastle United Liverpool £35
10 David Villa[17] Valencia Barcelona £34.2
11 Gianluigi Buffon[18][19] Parma Juventus £32.6
12 Robinho[20] Real Madrid Manchester City £32.5
13 Christian Vieri[21] Lazio Internazionale £32
14 Andriy Shevchenko Milan Chelsea £30.85
15 Dimitar Berbatov Tottenham Hotspur Manchester United £30.75

Its a bit fucking mental to see him on that list. He needs to be top league scorer and a fucking beast if he's to justify that fee.

If we can do what we did in the game against city where Raul floated a cross in and Carroll over powered the defender to score then 20 goals is achievable but he needs to hit the ground running otherwise pressure will be on.............

I generally agree, apart from the last bit. I think Carroll will be favoured by Kenny.

I think Kenny is fantastic (as I'm pretty sure everyone on here knows - there was nobody more excited about the prospect of him taking over - only some who were *as* excited) but I'm not inclined to think he'll easily give up on a player he's paid £35M for.

I trust him nevertheless, as I think Carroll is a very good player - the key is to get the whole side working well together, and I think he is able to do that.

Although it's fair to say we could probably do with one more player with a flash of brilliance, I think we do have variety and that's surely what Kenny is working towards. With Rafa we seemed to have Gerrard behind Torres with no real width or spontenaity. Now I feel we've got a bit more in the cannon though we might lack a bit of a consistent edge infront of goal.

Carroll - Presence, aerial ability, hold up play
Suarez - Creativity, pace, that bit of magic
Kuyt - Goals, energy, good link up play and movement
Downing - Width, reasonable pace and skill, crossing ability
Adam - Good range of passing, setpiece delivery.
Ming - excellent movement between the lines and clever link up play
Henderson - Again, good movement and link up play with a sound delivery
Johnson - Pace, trickery, delivery, width

And although we could improve on this area:
Spearing and Lucas - A bit of steel in the middle of the park

Obviously still lack in certain areas, but the goals and creativity seems alot more evenly spread and that's without mentioning our talisman.

I reckon that Carroll will do very well this season, finish as our top scorer just ahead of Suarez and Kuyt, and will go some way to justifying the £30m price tag

Downing----------Suarez---------------Kuyt
----------Adam-------------Gerrard---------
Aurelio-------Carra------Agger-----Johnson
---------------------Pepe---------------------

With Ming, Henderson, Kelly, Skrtel, Lucas all rotating with them, thats a very good, very dangerous team.

Although if Mata was in there as well....

Although I really like that team, I think it'd get stung in the middle of the park. Gerrard isn't anywhere near disciplined enough and although Adam does like to sit, he doesn't really have the movement or stamina to close the opposition down. Great for at home though maybe.

Yeh that was my thinking too. for away games drop maybe Gerrard/Kuyt/Downing and replace with Lucas/Spearing to solidify the team. Although saying that maybe Kenny/Clarke could whip a bit of discipline/ability to cover into Gerrard and Adam.

so do i, tbh. i'm not carroll's biggest fan yet, but i'm still pretty confident he'll score plenty of goals with the kind of supply suggested by that line up above. by golly, though, the money paid out for him and downing will probably always make me wince a bit.
