Adebayor

I think he's always played on the left wing as he's not a old fashioned winger but someone who likes cutting in. Unlike Babel, he's got loads of skill with the ball and can actually beat his man. Playing him on the right wing would be a doing a great disservice to ourselves as the most dangerous aspect of his game would be taken away.

Provided we get him. I think the story's a load of bollocks.

Yeah agreed Bren, can't believe how they have managed to get so many twats into one squad.

They're about to join Utd at the top of the league in twatishiness.

Despite the odds they've already battered them at it.

Womancini can't even pretend to have any control over these gobshites. At least Baconface gives that allusion.

From what I've seen, the reason he's on the left, is because he beats people with his pace on his left, and can actually use skill when trying to beat them on his right. Giving him two options of beating a player. If you play him on the right, he can only beat them on one side. He's terribly one footed. Of course he won't be able to get to the goal line and whip in crosses, but sure we haven't had a player doing that in years, so no big loss. I've no idea if he's actually capable of doing that anyway. Unless someone can provide a few clips?
Honest question....why can't have the same two options on the right? I don't get it. Somebody educate me please. I feel a bit like i have flipped two pages at once.
Because he wouldn't be able to cut in from the right as he'd go on to his weaker foot. Hence the only option would be to push the ball forwards and beat his man for pace. I guess that's what Gerry meant.

Why can't Elia do it on the right?

Well, and this is just my opinion, he doesn't seem to have a left foot, so beating someone on his left side(the opponents right) means he's running into the centre of the pitch and Elia doesn't seem to have the control to be able to do that and protect the ball with his left foot. He can do it with his right foot.

When he plays on the left, he can beat people on his left side as he has the pace to do it, i.e getting into the space and recover the ball.

I'm not sure if I'm making that clear, but it makes sense in my head.

Ah...it does, if we are assuming he will never be effective getting to the byline and playing crosses in...

He's right footed which means he's much better at kicking the ball with his right foot. Normally this applies to shooting, crossing and passing.

Yes, I've made that assumption as I've never seen him do it. Maybe he can, I don't know. He may be right footed, but he may be absolutely rubbish at crossing. Hence you have to play him on the left.

Why has this thread turned into a debate on whether Elia can play on the right wing?
???

Tbh I couldn't care less if he is a massive twat. He's a fucking great player. Big, strong, target man, pacey and can score goals and create on his own.

We have Torres and ........ N'Gog. With Babel and Ecclescake as back up.

Loan deal for Adebayor? Ehhhh YES!

is the x on the far right adebayor running the length of the pitch to celebrate?

Apologies about the thread hijacking earlier...

To all those people who are insinuating that this is like begging the sheikh at City, did you feel the same way (that we are begging) when we loaned Anelka from Arsenal?

I think too much money in football has changed the way supporters think about football. If Henry & co are willing to get this guy on the loan and if he can provide that instant boost in performance that we are hoping for, then it should be lauded and not castigated.

I see this as a situation where they have player who is apparently surplus to requirements at their club, while he would instantly improve our squad ....so it is a bit of win-win really and not begging.

Adebayor is a cunt though...that much i agree. But sometimes cunts work out just fine when it comes to getting the points in the premier league.

There are plenty of cunts in the squad. Adding a talented one wouldn't bother me.

what do you mean by cunt in the squad?

a) someone who is shit at football

b) not a very nice person

c) female vagina

Just beacuse they play for Liverpool doesn't make them a nice person Neil. So a combination of the first 2.

Who could guess that one of Anelka's many destinations would be Liverpool. His attitude has destroyed lots of golden opportunities in his career. He and his brothers tested Houllier's patience and the boss refused to buy him. A particular night when the lights went out against Newcastle was Nico's golden moment at Liverpool. A superb display from the mercurial Frenchman lit up Anfield.

Many supporters were surprised when Gerard Houllier decided not to make Anelka a permanent addition to his squad at the end of the 2001-02 season. The player's contribution (4 goals from 20 League games plus one goal in the F.A. cup against Birmingham) had helped the club achieve second place in the Premier League behind champions Arsenal. Instead of securing Anelka on a permanent deal, Houllier decided to buy Diouf after the World Cup in the Far East that summer and nobody in their right mind would consider that Diouf was a better permanent signing than Anelka might have been.

It wasn't long before Anelka was back in English football anyway as Kevin Keegan signed him for Manchester City, where he spent three fairly successful years (38 League goals from 89 games) before he was on the move again, this time to Turkish club Fenerbache. He helped them win the championship and thereby qualify for the following season's Champions League where they had a dreadful time, finishing bottom of their group.

During the summer of 2006, Anelka was again linked with English clubs. Portsmouth seemed to be the front-runners but it was Bolton Wanderers who eventually secured his signature on a four-year contract that had cost them a club record £8 million. He hadn't been at Bolton long before he was linked with yet another move. Just over a year after originally signing for Bolton, he signed a new four-year contract which should have kept him at The Reebok until 2011. But when Chelsea came calling in the January transfer-window of 2008, it was hard for the player or his club to say no. The £15 million fee meant that close on £90 million pounds had been spent on Anelka's fees from the time when he had joined Real Madrid from Arsenal in 1999. A Champions League winner with Madrid, he would reach another final with Chelsea but after a tight match that went the full distance it was his penalty-kick, saved by Manchester United 'keeper Edwin van der Sar, that meant that London clubs were still without a European cup win while Manchester and Liverpool's combined total rose to eight. In his second season at Chelsea Anelka finished top-scorer of the Premier League with 19 goals.

What Anelka might have done had he stayed at Anfield in 2002 is only conjecture. But the significant number of goals scored for the clubs he has played for since suggest that he could have become a really important player if he had stayed.

Nicolas continued to help Chelsea to domestic prizes as he was a member of their successful F.A. cup-winning teams in both 2009 and 2010. He also won his second Premier League winners' medal twelve years after winning his first with Arsenal in 1998. Further European success, however, eluded him with the west London club being knocked out of the Champions League by Barcelona in 2009 and Inter-Milan in 2010.
