A passer in midfield 2

Man City bound if reports are to be believed.
Guardiola is a big fan apparently

Yeah not seen us linked with him sadly.

But I really want to see us sign an Alonso type for that position.

The Seville game & a few other times this season - our team has really lacked composure in possession. That game was the worst example of it as we had a lead and threw it away. Our midfield couldn't keep the ball, the defenders kept hoofing it - we panicked and invited wave after wave of attack as a result, before crumbling.

I also think we've got lots of players in CM who are good at pressing - Keita, Henderson, Can (if he stays), Wijnaldum, Milner, Ox, Lallana...

What we lack is someone who actually marks the space and plugs the gaps. With two players ahead of that deepest CM doing the bulk of the pressing, we need an intelligent player like Alonso was who would be in the right place to protect the back four, intercept and mark that space. As when Mascherano, Gerrard or Sissoko were pressing, it was Alonso who was disciplined to plug that gap.

Weigl for me is the right man. Jorginho is the right man in terms of offering the composure in possession. Keita will also help with that obviously. But defensively I'd give Weigl the edge on Jorginho, but that's not to say Jorginho would be poor. He is a pretty complete CM and alongside a Keita and another player doing that bulk of the pressing it could mean he'd be even more effective defensively alongside that type of structure and company. I have to say the same goes for Henderson, who I think will look better alongside Keita, but he doesn't have the composure or ability to play on the half turn or under pressure like Jorginho or Weigl can.

Oliver definitely has some good contacts and has been right a fair amount about LFC transfers the last year.

Seems these three might be the top targets.

Would be delighted with Alisson & Jorginho.

Not sure I want Pulisic, he's all hype, but not been that effective this season. Still young though, I guess.

I like Jorginho, think he'd be boss actually.

Weigl would be my choice though as I think he's better defensively, as well as being very comfortable in possession.

I'm not sure that Weigl is all that great defensively. The German is a great passer of the ball as well, but needs more protection and that's one of the reasons Dortmund has been defensively soft lately. Jorginho is not big, but has that Brazilian street toughness about him – no comparison to Aquilani. They play in different leagues, so hard to compare them head-to-head.

I like Milinkovic-Savic as well, but he is a different type, not so much a playmaker, but an all-around midfielder, a bit like Grujic. If Klopp still has faith in the latter, maybe we don't need to sign another player like that.

Everyone we've bought from Italy has been cursed until Salah. Maybe the bad JuJu has been defeated in some Eyes Wide Shut business in Boston.

If Klopp is indeed looking at a holding/ defensive/ Number 6 type player, he has got to be physically impressive, able to tackle and mobile enough to nick possession and close down space.

I don’t think that player always has to be entirely destructive, like Masher or Kante, but they can’t be a weak, small, slow, ‘passer’ or pivot or whatever the fuck else you might want to call it.

They will get eaten up. Alonso was a cultured holding midfielder with a frankly astonishing passing range, but he could mix it up and stick his foot in when needed.

He also wasn't the most disciplined or industrious and he wasn't very agile/quick, but the pro's outweighed the cons. He could put his foot on the ball and calm things down, or could equally see the pass before anyone else on the break and release the ball well.

None of the players we're linked to are "weak" and immobile so I have no idea what you're on about. We're aren't buying Charlie Adam for fucks sake!

So you're saying we should sign this wonderkid?

What's your feeling on Ruben Neves? Has by all accounts has had a great season in the Champsionship, and is only 20. I know it's YouTube clips but he remnds be of Xabi

`I've been banging on bout this kid a bit this season. Seems to be the bees kness and he's far above Wolves' level. Top 6 quality for sure though maybe his agent will keep him at Wolves another season .. his agent's connections are the issue of course and the reason he's at Wolves.

Appaz he is on £45k a week, if someone offered him £60k a week agent or no agent he is moving. Do you think he is a good fit ( for LFC), after all he looks though he can dribble, tackle, run and pass.

Don't agree with that.

I went a bit apeshit crazy when he went to Wolves after a season of us chasing him

Yeah I don't think £60k a week would even be in the ballpark. He's already underpaid at Wolves and the reason for that is that his agent wanted to give him more exposure before a big move to a top PL club.

I think he'd be ace at LFC, as you said he's high quality and has got a bit of everything in his locker with a lot of development still to come. Wouldn't surprise me to see him as a £100m plus player in a few years he has that much potential. A bit like say Sessegnon in that regard (though of course S. is younger), they are already tearing it up and it's just a matter of how far they kick on from here.
