A New Striker...

Dunno if its me but im lost tbh, not even sure its worth trying to explain again, you seem move the goalposts with each different post.

Who cares if Borini isn't a versatile player? we are talking about signing a striker, no? and he is a striker.

Sturridge and Suarez (he ain't going) will be playing as the strikers for us next season, imo we should be looking at signing another attacking player (maybe 2) to supplement them, not a striker.

We simply won't improve on those 2 players, how about spending the money on positions we can improve on like left sided attack, if hes versatile and can play on the right as well then great!, how about splashing out on a top class attacking centre midfielder who can bring some goals and creativity to that position, something we lack, left back also, lets go and upgrade on that position.

Just don't see how buying a striker is in any way a priority right now, as Hansern mentioned if we do sell Borini then along with the bag of peanuts we will get for Aspas then yes go and sign a back up striker with that money.
I'm counting on us selling Borini and when he and Aspas are sold, we should buy a Striker in the Suarez mould. That's all. It might be the least of our worries but in order to compete in four competitions we need a better striker option on the bench. Borini and Aspas don't cut it.
But you're right, sort the wings and the left back position first.

See, I'm not convinced the fullbacks are anywhere near as high a priority as it keeps being made out to be.

Considering how good we've been going forward this season without these magical fullbacks we're going to purchase, and that so few of the goals we concede have been because of our fullbacks shortcomings.

Glenjo is good enough to be a starter, regardless of how inconsistent he is. Flanagan can easily be backup for both sides. Enrique is as good a starter as most clubs have too.

Every squad is going to have its weak spots. I'd rather ours be at FB than somewhere more important. Bring in a cheap rotation option for <5-10M and we should be sorted I say.

If we've learned anything this season, it's that we don't need to put a big investment in at FB. By all accounts, the performances at the positions have been well below par, yet we've been more than okay.

So you want us to spend a big sum on a player that will be sitting on the bench?

We could potentially have another 20 games to play next season if we have a good run in the cups. Sturridge will accrue knocks at some stage, and we will want to rotate or substitute players during games to rest them for upcoming CL fixtures. A top striker will get plenty of games.

Fair enough but i don't agree, Suarez and Sturridge can drop out a game here and there and we could look at it in January if needs be, Borini can play Carling Cup.

Just don't see any logic spending big money on a top striker when that position is the strongest position in the team, theres so many other positions that are more important and need upgrading, it makes no sense to me unless we are spending 120 million this summer.

Christian Benteke: Aston Villa striker out for six months
Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke has been ruled out for a minimum of six months with a ruptured Achilles tendon.
The 23-year-old Belgium international will have surgery on the injury sustained in training and will miss this summer's World Cup in Brazil.
Villa manager Paul Lambert said: "It's a terrible blow both for Christian and for the club.
"But he'll work hard because that's what he does and he'll come back for us stronger than ever next season."
Christian Benteke

Born: DR Congo, 3 December 1990
Clubs: Standard Liege 2009-2011
Kortrijk (loan) 2009-10
Mechelen (loan) 2010-11
Genk 2011-12
Aston Villa 2012-
Benteke joined Villa in August 2012 in a £7m deal from Belgian club Genk.
He scored 23 goals in all competitions in his debut season in England and was linked with a move away from Villa Park.
Benteke handed in a transfer request last summer, but withdrew it to sign a new four-year contract in July 2013.
He has scored 11 goals this season despite going four months without finding the back of the net and was set to be named in the Belgium World Cup squad even though his last national appearance came in the September 2013 in victory over Scotland.
Manchester City defender Vincent Kompany, Benteke's international captain offered his support via Twitter.
He wrote: "Wishing you all the strength you need Christian Benteke and I hope you will recover quickly! We're all with you together!"

I'd be quite happy if we spent all our money on an attacking player like Suarez every year, anyone who can play in at least two positions of the front four.

I'd be gutted if we spent 20m on a full back, when we have plenty that can do that job to a half decent standard. I reckon Rodgers sees it the same way too.

I wouldn't be surprised if we pick up a young striker from South America that none of us have heard of.
Seems to work for Porto

Portugal is much more lenient with international work permits, that's why they always manage to do that.

When is the annual Arda Turan link going to surface?
Bout 22nd of May I reckon.

So who would people like us to sign as backup striker for next season? I'd like Bony, but he's likely to be rather pricey. I'd also love Lukaku. I'd take Remy at a push. Any other players?

Havent read the replies but I think Bony is superb.

I'd also take Remy or even Weimann (spelling)

It's all dependent on Suarez staying 😉.

If he stays then hope we can get a younger striker than Suarez and Sturridge as he will most likely not get too many games. Gives him time to develop and learn; but of course he has to have a fair amount of talent as well.

Portugal is very open with Brazilian work permits due to so many familial ties. Not all South Americans have an easy path to Portugal - mostly Brazilians. I am half Portuguese and have many Brazilian cousins, so I am a little familiar.

This.

Are you going to declare your first international match for Portugal or Brazil?

Question: has Luis ever been injured for us? He's unbreakable... It's a seriously good banner..

Who cares who he fucking signs? The man spent 40M last year on Ilori, Aspas, Sakho, and Alberto, then proceeded to give regular games to Victor Moses, Aly Cissokho, then stuck John Flanagan at left back - and we're top of the fucking premier league with 6 games to go.

He can bring Istvan Kozma out of fucking retirement and I'll back his judgement.
