30 million pound Sterling bid rejected - new bid made

I think the key issue is - Which I feel Red Ninja is trying to make. Sterling doesn't want to be here. His form dipped (on purpose possibly) to engineer a move away. Even after a good deal was offered to him. If we force him to stay and plays like he did in the last 3 months of the season - Where is that going to get us in a years time?

That's not what he said though. He said he hasn't been our best player for months.

Not years, or even a full season, months.

ith the euros next summer, I can't see how him dropping his form further as he will be dropped for theo/ox

That's a good point actually. You'd think he'd want to step up whatever team he plays for this season to be in with a shout for the Euros.

Obviously most people would agree with that. But you imply that he was our best player a few months ago, then he drops below his usual standards for a few months. So you think we should get rid.

Do you not think that's just a little bit knee-jerk? Or more aptly, a little insane?

No not at all and I wasn't being knee jerk and I never implied he was our best player...

Though Like I said in an ideal world keep him.... But getting rid really won't be a huge issue if we get the right fee for him... He is sulky youngster that thanks to his agent has held the club to Ransom...

The players are there to replace him in the squad (assuming they can step up to the plate)

I'm with @Dahuge Firminho and a top striker to replace Ballotelli... job done... (if it was only as easy as that, though)

Ok point taken - He's only played 2 full seasons really though. One of them being alongside one of the most talented footballers in the world today. Suarez's light shone on all those around him and made them look good. This season without him, Sterlings performances were very telling. He was good. On occasion he was very good. He was also poor and on occasion very poor. You can put that down to many things. About the only positive I can take from last season is Coutinho who rightly won our player of the year.

You said he wasn't our best player for months, that implies he was our best player before that. Which is actually true, he was. Then he got tired, was overplayed, got distracted or whichever and was off form.

I'm actually not sure why I'm bothering actually...

Tired? He's fucking 19 and got himself a very indulgent mid season break in the Caribbean! Cheeky little shit needs to go (for top whack)

If it was judged on the first half of the season, it would have been Sterling, hands down, and Coutinho wouldn't have come close. Second half was also a no-brainer and was Coutinho.

I think people's memories are very short with regards him, in the two years he's been in the first team, he's been excellent(considering his age) for three quarters of it. His downturn in form coincides with him being overplayed and over-relied on. Yeah, he's been acting like a dick with the contract, but he's still a great player, and probably the best one we have, along with Coutinho.

I am starting to understand how @Rosco feels now..

@Red Astaire touches on a few points which is relevant.. Though my main point, I don't think it's a huge disaster if we sell him.. Certainly not to the scale of the sale of Suarez was..

His attitude bothers me.. at least with Suarez, he knuckled down and did his talking on the pitch..

This fella has been the victim of his own downfall playing wise..

Most of that I agree with - Ask yourself though how much better was Sterling with Suarez next to him. He's a good player and yes probably one our best in terms of ability. Take Suarez out of the equation and you can say he's had 6 months of good form. His attitude towards the club stinks though.

I actually didn't mean physically tired, but we sent him off for a break for a reason, we wouldn't do that lightly. Evidently it didn't work as we'd hope. I suspect we'll be back on form next year, and back to being one of the best players in the league, whether it's with us or with someone else.

I'm not sure why you'd rule out his form from the previous year, but that leaves a good 6 months out of 12? That's pretty damn good. We struggle to get 6 minutes of decent play from most of our players.

When he stayed down in the England game, I had to try hard not to be happy. But when they showed how his knee twisted on the replay, I had to smile for a little while. We have no more use for him and should either sell the cunt or ruin his career. We should also take our sweet time to decide which. Maybe the whole summer.

We'll or He'll? To be honest I'm doubtful of both. I guess we'll find out though.

I think Ninja is saying something which lots of you agree with, but somethings getting lost in translation. Sterling's form has clearly dipped, but he isn't our best player, Coutinho is better, and a fully fit Sturridge is our best player,. We can't afford to be held ransom over this kid, we should sell on our terms, otherwise we keep him.

Now as for replacing him, I agree with Ninja, we don't need to go out there and sign a direct out and out replacement, absolutely not, people seem keen to peg Sterling to a single position, but really he plays across the whole front four (RW, LW, CAM, ST). We need to invest in that front four with a big player, a player who can score goals, create goals, someone a bit special, that Firmino is a good shout. We need to invest in that player regardless of the Sterling situation, it just becomes a much more important if he does leave.

Yes, well, the time to be held to ransom by him has gone, thanks to Ward's incompetence. But make no mistake, this is a defining moment for the club: if it backs down now from its initial position, it can never again resist a player and agent doing this kind of nonsense. The basis for that position will have gone. Forget the notion of having a potential irritant for a bit longer: the club is already rocking on its foundations, with a weakened manager, a long period of under-achievement and a clear lack of stars in the squad. Let Sterling give the club the finger and piss off to a rival and there won't be any real justification for this club continuing with its pretensions to belonging to the upper tier. That's history.

I'm strangely confident the club will remain firm in this instance. The Suarez situation of two years ago still sticks in the mind, we did fantastic there, and I think we'll do it again.

Yeah but Suarez signed an extension to his contract. Very good of him in hindsight. It meant we got good money for him. A year down the line with Sterling that contract is looking like we'll get fuck all.

I don't much care in the big scheme of things. We won't make a loss on him even if we keep him and he does still look to go at a later time (look at Burnley and Ings, for god's sake). I don't trust the committee to spend any money wisely this summer, and certainly not on a striker. The more important thing is that this club shows it won't be messed around by a kid and his agent. Seeing as the policy is to bring on young talents, that's pretty important in itself, but everyone - other clubs, agents, players and the media - need to be shown we won't bow down when anyone tries it on like this.

We'll get compensation won't we for developing him?

It's my own fault, but I went over to those cunting 'blue moon' forums to see if there was any other news on this. What a horrible bunch of fucking wankers they are, their forums actually make redcafe and rawk seem nice and civil.
In short, they think us, the 'dippers', should be accepting their current offer, not because it's good value etc, but because they're a much bigger club and we should do as we're told and be grateful. They also keep going over the saaaaame old ground over and over - how can we want 50mill if we offered him a 100k contract. ffs
They really are horrible fucking twats over there, the inbreds at redcafe massively outclass them and that is saying something.
A lot of them seem to think this offer will be their last and sterling will 'obviously' engage the webster rule and walk away for pennies in the last weeks of next season if we don't bend to theirs and sterling's will, and we hold no cards what so ever in this situation, regardless to the 2yrs remaining on his contract.

Here's the shit hole in all it's glory:

http://forums.bluemoon-mcfc.co.uk/threads/raheem-sterling.306034/page-445

It seems the webster rule isn't widely used, if ever, and in theory would actually end up costing a player and his next club the same amount, if not more than the tribunal system that we may have to go through with Ings.

For the people saying take the money and spend it wisely... this point was made by a guy from the blue moon site:

1. Joe Allen for £24m or Yaya Toure for £24m? 2. Andy Carroll for £35m or Sergio Aguero for £38.5m? 3. Lazar Markovic for £24m or David Silva for £24m? 4. Dejan Lovren for £20m or Gael Clichy, Martin Demichelis, Vincent Kompany and Pablo Zabaleta for £20m?

Yes. If we had a manager and owners who very sensibly showed ambition and good judgement and went after seriously talented, experienced stars who filled obvious gaps in the team, all of this 'Oh, we should cash in' stuff would make a bit of sense. But we clearly don't have such people. So stick with the principles. If FSG want to bring in a top striker now, they already have the money, let's cut the crap. They are doing very well. They just don't want to. So let's at least defend our position with a bit of serious strength.

Yeah, cos the wages are exactly the same as well.
