We bid this amount for Willian apparently, we bid 21.5 for Costa and 24mish for Mikhi.

What are we going to do with this money?

It should buy you a 15-18m attacker and a 8-10m defender.

I think we'll purchase 52 million items in the 50p shop on Bold St (is that still there??)

The Echo reckons two signings will happen. Imho Moses and Sakho.
If we can pull it off maybe one more, maybe Mata or Di Maria if they really are moving. We can at least try..
If not, save the money for January.

Sadly, the race for 4th will be between Arsenal and Spurs unless Studge/Coutinho are injury free the entire season.

Why the flying fuck would mata or di maria join us?

Come on now, lets AT LEAST be realistic about transfers and potential targets.

Willian, shatker lad and costa relatively unknown and arguably rogue , expensive footballers.

Mata and Di maria would be on pedestals in comparison. .

If Di Maria is considering a move to Gala then why not? If Mata is available thn why not?
The worst thing you'll get is a no.

hopefully there will be another apology from John Henry at the end of this transfer window like last time, it's something to fall back on when we fail to get 4th because we didn't invest in the summer.
Hopefully at least this year, we should turn a profit. Uefa will be pleased...

We need a billionaire.

The Arabs and the Russians are already taken.

US billionaires seem crap.

I'm thinking India/China?

We're not getting one. Or if we do, they won't be allowed to spend tons of money any more.

Indian billionaires have had a poor track record.
Supposing we had sold to the Dubai investment group we would've been in just as much shit as we were with H&G. If you get billionaire who wants to make money from a club you get a situation like arsenal.

Shit transfer window two summers running. Told you it would be. Do I get a big shiny "I'm Boss, I Told You So" badge? I'm not going to go as far as saying FSG are deliberately holding back money (yet) but something isn't quite right. Either they are or our scouts or transfer committee are fucking shite.

Going for the latter

They could well be holding money back in the hope that Rodgers can get us into the cl without it, so when it is spent it's a higher tier of players we're aiming for.

Alternatively they could be holding back in order to reach a desired figure to start work on the fabled stadium redevelopment.

Or, they could be genuinely trying to sign players, but because they're so obsessed with driving the wage bill down, not being competitive in terms of salary.

I honestly don't know. It could be an amalgamation of all of those. It'd be nice if they just fucking told us though.

If we haven't signed anyone decent by Monday they'll be under pressure to answer some questions that's for sure.

What money are we holding back ?

I'm pretty sure I read some articles stating clubs have a huge TV rights payment this year. That'd help.

On top of that we've had 20m or thereabouts for most windows up to last season, we keep getting told how much more commercial cash these lizards are binging in, we've spent nothing (net) this summer & reduced 15m off the annual wage bill.

So 30m plus doesn't sound unreasonable.

I'll say it again.

We make big losses every year, the only reason we've had any positive net spend is because the lizards put the money into the club for it.

The cutbacks and raises probably bring us to break even territory. And if i remember correctly if they put any more in we'll be in breach of FFP

Well ffp means fuck all, as we know, so breaching it is akin to smoking on an outside train platform. It might be technically wrong but no one gives a shit or enforces it.

Up until Carroll & Downing we can't have been losing that much cash, surely?

I won't pretend I know the figures, but I struggle to believe we don't make 20m profit from merchandise & sponsorship, especially now the wage bill has been so dramatically cut.

I think we've turned a profit once since Houllier arrived at the club. £7m one year. Our losses in the 2012 accounts were 40m.

We've made our position clear on FFP, so it does matter.

And I'll wait to see the wage bill figures before deciding whether there's been a massive drop. We might not see the benefit of those moves for a while yet.

There might still be a few quid hanging around but I'm not expecting anything significant unless Suarez goes.

Ross, can you explain to me what the deal is with the FFP? How come we seem to be taking it seriously yet others continue to spend?

I'm aware City and the rich boys keep pumping in investment by means of 'sponsorship' but when will it be actually enforced?

I think this is part of the problem and our transfer committee is the rest. Everyone in the Premier League got new TV money (a lot) so prices have been inflated because of that. My guess is that our dipshits haven't worked that out (or if they have then they've been so scarred by the Carroll & Downing Windows as to have the same effect) so are penny pinching when they're close. It's like if the UK had inflation of 20% overnight with everyone getting a 20% payrise but then you didn't do any shopping because prices were so high. You'd starve.

If we're going to get someone for the left wing, could we not buy Keisuke Honda who has only 6 months left on his contract?
