Yet Another Unmentioned Player

Last season, besides my hard on for Vietto, I also shared a few relatively unmentioned players in SCM whom I felt looked pretty interesting. Usually I looked up a player whose stats in particular categories stood out, or who'd been highlighted in a decent list of promising up-and-coming young stars. It's the usual fart in the wind stuff. I missed Anthony Martial though, and I think @peterhague picked that one before anyone else (http://www.sixcrazyminutes.com/inde...c-alternatives-to-benteke.68619/#post-1299910).

Anyway, these were the other three guys I mentioned. As you can see, it's a bit of a mixed bag; Carrasco made his big move to Atletico Madrid in the summer while Amavi joined Villa, where he then picked up a cruciate ligament tear after about 10 league games. Batshuayi, like the widely-known Lacazette, stayed in Ligue 1 though. Batshuayi has continued his scoring form, with 11 in 20 league games this season (9 in 26 last season).

So anyway, here's my first (probably) unmentioned player for this season - Wahbi Khazri, an attacking midfielder / wide forward who plays for Bordeaux. I can't remember seeing him when we played them away in the dull away draw. He was not in the team for the game at Anfield though.

A product of SC Bastia's academy, the 24-year-old Tunisian international joined Bordeaux two seasons ago after a couple of seasons at Bastia. Can't find clips of him in a full game against a particular team, so we'll have to rely on one of those ScoutNation clips again.

So, is he good? 24 is pretty late for an attacking player to blossom...

I have no idea since I don't watch the French Ligue. I only look at some stats, history, clips, etc. - any excuse to up my post count and get first dibs on a potentially good player. 😀 Unless I really have a hard on for a player (e.g. Vietto), then I try and dig up full matches to take a good look. Even that was a bit painful because Villarreal last season would sit deep and play on the counter against the big teams and it bored me. Anyway, this is Bordeaux though - I thought they were boring when we played them so I'm not going to torture myself (again). ;D

Anyway, first full season (21?), he netted 10 or 11, so that's impressive for a rookie. I won't go into assists because those are pretty much flaky. I put some fair bit of weightage on a rookie season like that, as I think it shows the sort of mentality a player might have. Doesn't mean they'll definitely go on to greater things or that they're not one season wonders, but I think it shows a bit about their ambition and nervelessness. He's gone on to feature among the top two or three scorers every season (all competitions) at both Bastia and Bordeaux, usually averaging around 7 to 9 goals in a wide forward or AM position.
