World Cup Squads

Disagree. Negredo initially lost his place through injury and then couldn't get it back when Dzeko FINALLY began to play like he can, while Costa's fitness is clearly questionable. And what about Llorente? Del Bosque does have a good record, but all managers make mistakes. I think he's made one or two here which could end up biting him on the backside, admittedly talented though that squad still is.

He went 12 games without scoring a goal mate. After the first 5 games he was replaced by Dzeko.
Either way, Spain might be missing something there but they'll still be one of the favourites 😉

excuse the quiffing, but the Ivory Coast squad looks pretty good. The defence is a weakness Unless Kolo rolls back the years), but an on-fire Yaya with goals from Bony, Drogba, Gervinho, and they could progress well.

Goalkeepers: Boubacar Barry (Lokeren), Sylvain Gbohouo (Sewe Sport), Sayouba Sande (Stabaek).
Defenders: Kolo Toure (Liverpool), Sol Bamba (Trabzonspor), Didier Zokora (Trabzonspor), Serge Aurier (Toulouse), Arthur Boka (Stuttgart), Ousmane Viera Diarrassouba (Caykur Rizespor), Constant Djakpa (Frankfurt), Jean-Daniel Akpa-Akpro (Toulouse).
Midfielders: Yaya Toure (Manchester City), Cheik Tiote (Newcastle), Serey Die (Basel), Max Gradel (Saint Etienne), Diomande Ismael (Saint Etienne), Didier Ya Konan (Hannover), Mathis Bolly (Dusseldorf).
Forwards: Gervinho (Roma), Didier Drogba (Galatasaray), Salomon Kalou (Lille), Wilfried Bony (Swansea), Giovanni Sio (Basel).

Aurier emerging as a legitimately good fullback this season will help their back line a ton. Don't know if it's enough though.

Chile are an interesting prospect. TalkSport's S.America correspondent said on the radio the other day that, while his top tips (Brazil and Argentina in that order) are no surprise, Chile could emerge as *the* dark horse of the tournament.

Spain were still 6/1 the last time I looked. Wtf is that about? They look the best team in the tournament by a distance.

I think it was an overreaction to the confederations cup when Brazil battered them in the final.
I'm loathe to write Spain off as the winners but they have stacks of out of form players especially the barca ones.

Just checked... how did Bradley's career turn so quickly? From playing 30 league games for Roma in 2011/12 to 11 games in 2012/2013 to playing for Toronto? He's only 26, and he looked like a pretty good player when we played them in the pre-season last year. What happened to the guy?

Fuck.
Nothing better happen to Martinez or they'd be fucked.
Lukaku is the only striker that Belgium brought too which is fucking dumb.

There can be few better examples than Bobby Charlton of the fact that having been a tremendous player gives zero guarantee that your footballing judgment will be worth a light.

Franck Ribéry is out of the World Cup after he was unable to shake off a persistent back problem.
The Bayern Munich winger had attempted to rejoin training with Didier Deschamps’ squad but the coach was forced to announce that he would be unable to make the trip to Brazil.
“This morning before the collective training session … he had to stop, the pain was too strong,” Deschamps told a news conference. “We have made checks in the beginning of the afternoon, checks that confirmed the situation has aggravated and he is today not capable of training for a few weeks, let alone play a game.”
Earlier, the assistant coach Guy Stéphan had appeared to hold out hope for the player when he told the French radio station RTL: “His progress is going quite well, he’s doing a lot better but he still hasn’t trained with the team. All the most specific and specialised care possible has been taken and is still being taken. He is training with the team on Friday. If everything goes well, he will be there.
The Lyon midfielder Clément Grenier has also been ruled out. Montpellier’s Rémy Cabella and Southampton’s Morgan Schneiderlin will replace the duo, whose absence was announced by Deschamps at a press conference in Clairefontaine ahead of his side’s departure to Brazil.
Ribery had been following an individual training programme to overcome a back problem but failed to prove his fitness after rejoining the full squad on Friday. Grenier sat out the session as he underwent scans on a thigh injury and both players’ worst fears were confirmed by Deschamps.
The coach has already been forced into one change to his original squad, with the injured Marseille goalkeeper Steve Mandanda replaced by St Etienne’s Stéphane Ruffier.
